Well its the 2nd year running we have returned to this site. Last year for the bank holiday w. End, this year at the start of Aug. Lovely time had on both occassions. We were here the same week as Bestival, which if you want a quite nights sleep you may want to come week after. Absolutely love this eco camp. Fair to say the owners Ruth/Tim and Spencer were very welcoming and remained on site offering guidance and reassurance. Fire pits/logs available to hire which my kids loved the campfire with toasted marshmellows every night. Toilets clean/smell free(but eco), loo roll always provided! Showers, be warned in the morning, its the wake up call you need to get you going!
Local Spar offers pretty much everything you need, however Sainsburys in Wareham handy to. Overall great stay and would def return. Be warned if going to Corfe Castle get there ubber early parking is a NIGHTMARE!

We had a lovely week at Highwood Camping.
Great fun for the kids back to sleeping in a tent. Lots of space in the field with the second half of the field for children to play together - almost forgot we had them until it was trying me to see local beaches and castles and cliffs.
Clean and functional facilities. Friendly hosts. Didn't bring the proper camping barbie this year but still had some places where you could make a fire. Loved it.

What a great campsite! We are several families that camp every year and this was our first visit. It is a beautiful flat site with plenty of space to pitch our tents without encroaching on others and a huge area for the kids to play. The owners camp on site so are around to advise on where to go and what to do. It's very basic so don't expect a shop or somewhere to charge phones or freeze ice packs but it's quiet, charming, you can have fire pits (which they'll rent you) and there are lots of beaches that are easily accessible as well as a Spar supermarket close by. The Solar showers are best used in the late afternoon and the eco toilets are fine. All in all we loved it and are planning to return next year.

Lovely campsite, especially if you have children. Plenty of room to run and play. The owners are on site and have all the local knowledge you need. ( they also sell fresh eggs, and logs for your campfire). The children really enjoyed being shown the moths in the moth trap, and that fire pits are allowed. Perfect location down a quiet lane. The compost toilets were clean and not at all smelly. The solar powered showers were a bit unpredictable depending on the weather but that didn't bother us. Good washing up area undercover. Not far from local shops and wonderful beaches. Over all a perfect campsite.

This campsite is in a great location to explore all the surrounding beautiful Dorset coastline, beaches, the historic attractions, pubs, and in particluar The Castle Inn at Corfe. A must visit!
The owners, Ruth & Tim were great hosts, always around if needed and very welcoming and hospitable. The evenings log fires added to the atmosphere and even someone playing a guitar to entertain the children and families during one of our evenings there was amazing. Thank you whoever you were. Loved it
The only downside for me were the facilities. Although they were clean and well maintained it was a bit too basic for me, but okay for a weekends stay, so would stay here again. Rosie-Jo and Tutu Tina.

We just came back from a great week at Highwood Camping.
The owners (Ruth and Tim) camp on site so are always around and they couldn't have been more helpful. They took our ice packs off site to freeze and returned them in the morning. Ruth made an effort to know the kids names and advise on the best hidden beaches, she also did the lovely moth mornings for the kids. Alas no nightly ice cream van visit in our week, can it come next year please?
The site: Toilets very clean and didn't really smell even when the site became busy. The solar showers were cold unless you got there first late afternoon, after they had been warmed by the sun and before the rush. Would of been nice to have a couple more showers, so more warm water to go around.
There is a one washing up sink which seemed fine for the amount of campers - never had to wait for more than 5 mins to wash up.
Then site is flat and fairly small so you can see the kids when they go off to play each night. Half the site is kept free for dog walking/ball games. We would of preferred a bit more space between tents but next time would camp right at the edge to give us a bit more privacy. There is a road which has more traffic than I was expecting and so you can hear the noise on site but its a minor point. The wonderful darkness at night was great for star watching.
You can hire fire pits (worth pre-booking )and they come in various shapes and sizes, you can also buy logs on site.
The site is in a perfect position for exploring the wonderful Dorset countryside and beaches. The nearest town of Wareham was perfect for the essentials.
We have camped at lots of different sites and Highwood is one of the best, great family site, small and friendly with good, clean facilities and in a great location. Well done Ruth and Tim and see you next year!

Returned from a week with friends at Highwood Campsite. Hosts very friendly and nothing to much trouble. Initially dubious about toilets and shower facilities but soon adjusted to a cool shower each morning. Campsite flat, and fairly quiet with good space for each tent.
Would readily return for another visit next year. Good value for money and I would recommend this site to any campers.

We've just returned from a seven night stay at Highwood (2 adults and 3 children)and we've had one of our best UK holidays (slightly aided by the fantastic sunny weather) but in the main due to a wonderful and friendly campsite.
Ruth and Tim were lovely, helpful and had some great suggestions for days out. Nothing was too much trouble. Our children loved the Moth Magic mornings where they got to see the moths that had been caught over night and learn quite a lot about them too from Ruth.
The site is a huge field, half of which is used for camping and the other generous half used for playing, an evening stroll and dog walking.
The facilities were more than adequate. The showers were not hot in the morning, as you would expect from solar showers, but there was something quite invigorating about an early morning cold shower! But they were lovely and hot in the afternoon, perfect for washing off the kids after a day out. The compost toilets were the best we've experienced. They really didn't smell at all. Only one washing up sink but we rarely had to wait for it (even on a busy bank holiday weekend). There was even a mirror at the wash sink - luxury! Fire pits can be hired and are a must for a true camping experience.
Our children loved it (especially the nightly visit from the icecream van). We wouldn't change a thing and would definitely go back, not just because it's a great site but also because it's in such a beautiful location there was still so much we didn't get to visit. There is so much to do in this area of Dorset. A lovely holiday, thank you.

We absolutely loved this campsite and we loved Ruth and Tim. What they are doing here is brilliant and we totally support what they are doing. We went on August bank holiday, fearing that it would be filled to the rafters like ours last camping trip at another campsite but we were pleasantly surprised to see that they deliberately kept the numbers down which meant even though they were 'fully booked' everyone had loads of space. There was a real back to your childhood feel to the place so it would be perfect for those with small children who want to show them what real camping is all about and give them the freedom to run around and discover nature. Big bonus was the ice cream man who comes every day.
There were some down sides to the place which that the thunderbox did smell and was not a pleasant experience for me and the showers were always cold.

We are a family of 6 and stayed at Highwood camping site for the first time and also other family came so had a great family gathering.
Ruth & Tim are very friendly and help you with anything you need and as they are also camping on site they are always there.
We loved the fact that they don't take too many camper and loved it that we were just scattered around and not in rows!
The field is a beautiful meadow field with trees around the edges. There was a really big area for you to run around & play in with football posts provided along with bats and ball at the reception that you could just use.
There was a washing up sink and a wash basin with a mirror under a shelter. There are solar shower which my husband used first thing in the morning so were a bit fresh, but we know if he waited till later after the sun had been on them they would have been lovely and warm. The showers were kept lovely and clean.
The composting toilets were a bit strange to start with but after a couple of times of using them you got use to it, I have been in far far worst flushing toilets. They didn't really smell badly just a little whiff when you lifted the seat. After you have been to the loo you put a mixture of sawdust & ash over it.
We really loved cooking dinner over the open fire and sat around talking and had a bit of a sing song around the fire all evening. You can also hire fire pits. Not many campsite let you have open fires or use fire pits so this is just great and everyone enjoyed it.
The site was quite after 10. 30/11. 00 pm as they ask you to quieten down then so everyone can get a good night sleep.
There is a few Bell tent that you can hire which we had a look in which was lovely and would definitely like to stay in it another time.
The owner are great at recycling and ask that you help them with your rubbish putting them in the right bins.
There are no more facilities (like shop) other than toilets & showers, on site but the owners do sell eggs.
There is a lot of things to do in Dorset and this campsite is in a fantastic area.
