We had booked a Hook Up pitch and was told that there was only 3 or so 'sockets' so would be required to hire a extension lead and trail it round other peoples tents/motorhomes/vans etc in order for it to reach our spot.
Also when we looked at the allocated pitch it was very small and on the corner which meant roads on two sides of the tent, not ideal with young children. Thankfully whilst waiting for the pitch to become free we noticed the meadow field and it was lovely, loads of space for the kids to run around and people were able to pitch as close or as far away from others as they wanted. This was ideal for what we wanted albeit with the electricity we had paid for.
The shower block was a walk away (especially in the pitch black) but were clean if not a bit under maintained. The shop was basic but well stocked. Kids loved the football pitch and playground as well as the pool table and table tennis. I really cant say what niggled me about it but I don't think I will be returning

We have just returned from this site. I stayed only the first and last night but my partner stayed there for 3 weeks while he was working nearby. We were greeted by Sue who was lovely, very pleasant and helpful. We pitched in the Meadow which is actually two fields and there was hardly a soul there for the first couple of weeks. We could choose our own spot. The field was flat and level, with tap and bins nearby. The electric hook up pitches seemed to be full the whole time but I think a lot of the tourers were on permanent pitches.
There is a large, clean, well laid out shower block with free hot water and hairdryers. I only used the showers once but I think they need some serious descaling! The one I was in squirted tiny jets of water all over the place so you had to move around in it to get wet! There were 2 ladies in the next 2 showers and one of those only ran cold. Also one of the hand dryers didn't work
The pot wash area was excellent, again with free hot water and four sinks.
My partner used the laundry facilities and said the machines were old but adequate.
There is a TV/games room and a small shop. Also a children's play area but I can't comment on that as we don't have children
The site is in a nice location but it is the middle of nowhere and there are no pubs or shops in easy walking distance. There is a Tesco and a Morrisons in Dorchester. Moreton train station is a mile or so up the road. There is also a cider museum nearby.
We also found a fabulous fish restaurant in Dorchester called Billy the Fish where the fish is prepared freshly in full view of the diners and cooked to perfection. Not cheap but still value for money and well worth a visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back

Just returned from a long weekend at Sandyholme. From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed. Greeted by a lovely lady and checked in very quickly. Had a non electric pitch on the meadow. Lots of room and were quite glad that we weren't on the electric pitches which seemed quite close together.
Childrens playground and football pitch excellent and the wildlife on the pond was lovely to watch. Playground is quite near the entrance so you would have to stay with very young children, but the road at the top of the lane is not busy at all. We felt confident to let our 6 and 8 year old play on their own.
Even though the site was full on the bank holiday weekend the toilets were kept clean and only had to wait a very short while at peak periods for a shower. Water pressure is not great, but who's worried about that when the showers are free and hot.
Would def. visit again, there is plenty to do in the area and could easily spend a week or more here. Don't forget your Merlin Passes, there is a Sea Life in Weymouth.

First camping experience in late spring/early summer. Friendly lady who booked me in. Nice location, short drive to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and spectacular walking paths! Clean toilets and shower blocks. Very spacious camping area (actually, 2 fields joined together). Very reasonably priced. Recommended.

We stayed here first week of summer hols, and had some good old rain, but still had a lovely 3 night break.
Site is small, clean and well kept. Has a playarea for children, and plently of safe playing space. We took bikes for our children (3 and 6 years) and they were able to ride on the road along the front of our pitch. Even though the park seemed full the roads were not busy. The toilets/showers are a bit dated, but clean.
Overall a lovely site, and would return. Good central location. Great for Weymouth (motorhomes can park on the pier were the condour ferries go from, and there are some longer spaces, also able to 'overhang' the pavement a bit. The sealife centre is a great day out for kids, don't forget the swim wear. Also went to Lulworth Cove.
Be prepared to cook though, and take food supplies the shop is basic, and not open all the time, and there is no entertainment.

Just returned from 4 nights at this site - our first camping experience. Loved every minute!
We chose a non electric pitch on the lower meadow. Heavy rainfall meant that the top of the meadow was very wet with surface water over much of it. The lower field although wet in places did have some drier areas to pitch on. The whole site is very level. EHU pitches were very close together with tents squeezed in between caravans. They were very close to the site roads and we were pleased to be on the meadow and felt that the walk to the facilities added to the camping experience.
The shower block is old but clean and there was copious amounts of hot water. I only queued once for 10 mins over the bank holiday weekend. The warden did a fantastic job despite the rain and mud.
The shop was limited in its stock and had restricted opening times which may cause problems as the site is quite isolated.
Locally there are a few pubs but none within walking distance.
A fantastic little site which is the perfect base for exploring the south Dorset coast. Would definitley go back if in the area.

I have just returned from a four night stay at this site. The site was in a very good location as its within short driving distance of Durdle Door, Lulworth Castle, Dorchester centre etc.
We pitched out tent on the main site and found ourselves in a large puddle the next morning, it had rained quite heavily during the night but our pitch seemed to be the only one on the entire site that was waterlogged. We asked to be moved and they were very helpful and found us a new pitch straight away.
The toilet and shower facilities are adequate although the showers aren't very powerful.
The duck pond and children's play area are nice extras to the site.
I did read review saying that the pitches on the main site were quite small but we found that they were actually a rather good size and didnt feel cramped at all. Although I could imagine it becoming a bit sardine like when the weather is nice.
However one point would be that there isn't a pub or restaurant within walking distance, the nearest one we found was about a 10 minute drive away.
Overall a nice site with very friendly staff.

We have just returned from a weekend at Sandyholme. We pitched in the meadow where there were only 3 other tents. Shower/toilet facilities very clean, but only one block. However, it is ideal to explore the area, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove etc.

We spent a very enjoyable three nights at this site over the August Bank Holiday weekend. With fantastic weather and the delights of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door so close at hand, it would have been hard not to ! We found the large tent field a pleasant place to be camping. It's just a field with a roughly-made "road" made from stone scalpings, but with no other facilities. There was plenty of space for our group's three tents, without being too close to other campers. However, those camping at the far end of the camping field had quite a trek to the loo block. Campers & caravanners with hookups or camping in the main part of the site were very huddled together and it all looked a bit sardine-tin like to us. We were glad not to be there. There is just one toilet block, located in the main site. It has four male and four female showers (and similar numbers of toilets). I guess this was enough before the site was expanded by the addition of the tent field, but when the site is as full as it was in peak season, it clearly needs another (or a bigger) loo block. The facilities were cleaned quite frequently, but with so many people using them it was obviously difficult to keep them clean. The staff at Reception when we arrived were friendly & helpful. The shop was very basic, but adequate for our needs, as we just wanted milk & butter. They don't sell ice. The location of the kids' playground (by the road and as far away as possible from the camping field) meant that our kids didn't get to use it at all. Again, if the camp site is expanding they should consider augmenting or re-locating this facility. We'd certainly return to the area again, but would prefer a site with a more loos & showers. At a pinch, though, I guess we'd go back to this site again.

We booked this site for 5 nights and ended up staying for 6 - mainly because there is so much to do in the area. Our party consisted of 2 adults, one 7 year old child and 2 dogs. When I made the initial booking, I was advised that the only availability was in the "adjoining meadow", where there was also no restriction on tent size. This really suited us, especially with us having the dogs with us. Although it was a bit of a trek to the toilet block. When we arrived, the staff at the reception were very friendly and very helpful directing us to the meadow. Unfortunately for us, there had been heavy rain prior to our arrival which meant more than 50% of the meadow was like a swamp. So we spent the first hour trying to find somewhere to pitch (thank goodness for wellies!) There were only about another 6 tents in the meadow, although the main park was full. However, it did get very busy over the weekend. Our weather was excellent so the ground dried up quite well (thankfully). Shop/reception - well stocked and staff very pleasant and helpful. They do offer to freeze ice packs for you - charge of 15p per ice pack. You are asked to leave them in a bag marked with your initials, in beside their frozen food. Toilets - cleaned regularly, although not sure what with. I went to the loo late at night to find a young girl cleaning the floors with what appeared to be an old towel. But apart from that, I had no complaints. Seemed clean enough with adequate shower facilities. However, my OH said the male toilets/showers were very dirty. Childrens Play Area - this was about my only gripe about this site (apart from shop charging 15p per ice pack for freezing). The childrens play area is situated more or less at the entrance to the park, which makes it quite far away no matter where you are pitched. Fortunately, we didn't spend too much time on the park itself, so didn't prove to be a major problem. Would definitely go back to Dorset - lovely area and so much to do. But not sure if I would go back to this particular site.
