The site is very well designed, with very clean toilets and showers. The camp shop is stocked with all the right stuff.
The separate football pitch and playground kept my boys active for hours. They are still talking about the goals they scored.
Our first night at the campsite was overrun with a group of over 200. So I would definitely recommend you ask about large groups before booking.
Booking was very easy and efficient, and the campsite was clean and tidy.
All in all, I would recommend the site, and would definitely go back.

August 2004 Sandyholme was set in a nice village that was a comfortable drive to many towns and cities of interest. We booked two pitches as we wanted plenty of room, and with a large car and large tent we did not want to get squashed as it were. So when I arrived to find that the pitches were not laid out and that we just camped anywhere we wanted I was a little dissapointed we had spent double the amount we needed too. That said it did give us the room and space that we desired. It was a nice camp, the other campers were a generally nice bunch and the staff in the bar etc were extreamly helpful and friendly! It was slightly pricey for what they offered but not outrageously so. For an overall rating I would give it a 7.5/10 Happy Camping!

July 2004 We really liked this site. We were in the second field. It wasnt THAT far to the shower block at all, unless you were at the far end of course! We booked in for the third weekend of July, which I presume is one of the busiest times. However, the site seemed quiet and peaceful.
There was no queue for the shower and the small clubhouse was only half full. The owners were friendly and pitch prices very reasonable. Not a lot of facilities on site for the children - small play area and football field - however plenty to do nearby. We've been to many sites in the area, and this is one we shall certainly return to.

August 2003 Disabled Accessibility 90%.
The disabled facilities, of which there is one, included a shower, toilet hand basin and electric hand drier and a baby changing shelf. Access was very good with only an easily managed slope. The room is normally accessed using a key that requires a £5 deposit. This system is due to be changed to a keypad system later this season.
In the same block is the washing up/ veg preparation room. This does have ramped tarmac but it is very steep and therefore not suitable for all wheelchair users. The owners have agreed to change this, although it may not be done before the end of this season - do check with them if you fell you need this facility.
The reception, shop, games room and cafe/patio are accessed via one ramp to a raised walkway. This get a little narrow as you pass a telephone kiosk but is passable with a little care.
There is a mat outside the shop/reception area which makes it relatively easy for wheelchairs to enter. It is possible to reach all areas in the shop although the position of one display means you will need to reverse to get to the other side. Access to the patio eating area is level from the walkway.
On our visit, access to the games room was not possible as the door lip was too high for a wheelchair to get over. However, the owners have promised to sort this as soon as possible by adding a small ramp - so please check with the site.
The site is generally flat and level and even the path around the duck pond is easily manageable in a wheelchair.
We found the site very pleasant and clean. Despite the large number of people on the site it was not unduly noisey.
I can recommend this site to wheelchair users.

August 2002 Pleasant owners, nice on-site bar/restaurant with take-away facilities.tasty menu and good prices. Well stocked shop catering for almost evey requirement ( no Black Pudding though!!) New amenities block was very nice and clean, with free hairdryers too!! But the showers were fixed height which was ok if you were about 5'10". Also, watch your clothes because, as the sprayheads are fixed, the water goes everywhere in the cubicle. Only 3 cubicles so a long wait on busy weekends. An indoor washing up area is also provided, with 4 sink and drainer areas. The site is good if you are on the 1st field but, if you are on the 2nd or (as we were) the 3rd, the only facility you have is a water standpipe and a long hike to the toilet!! I didn't see any fire extinguishers in either of the other 2 fields either. Overall though, it is a good site.
