This is the ultimate place to escape from then noise of the every day.
Very large and private pitches, space to breath. Surrounded by nature. We have seen so many butterflies, a deer, glow worms. By day the cuckoo calls and woodpeckers fly by and at night you can listen to owls.
Easy check in. No cars allowed onto the campsite, which makes for wonderful peace. Plenty of wheelbarrows to carry stuff and the owner helps.
Water, wood, hot drinks, washing up facilities, showers and toilets and fridge all on site and handy.
The Lavender Line, a disused rail route, runs close by and is great for a long grassy walk to the local village for the pub or shops.
The darkness down on the site is supreme. See those night skies, they'll take your breath away.

My two girls (13, 11yrs)and I spent our annual camping trip at the Secret Campsite this year. We found the whole experience really relaxing in the first car free, group free meadow we've camped in.
Highlights:
• Car free, very well maintained meadow
• Great size pitches
• Super clean, shower block
• Friendly service and advice
• Communal fridge/freezer
Even though no electric hook up, it was really useful that I could leave my phone with the owner during office hours.
Surrounding area full of child friendly activities. We hired mountain bikes from http://www. Sosussex. Co. Uk/bike-hire/ for our attempt to conquer the downs, however only made it as far as the Jolly Sportsman for some more quality food and drink. Its about the journey, not the destination.
So Sussex also arranges course angling amongst other things, which was another first and well worth the time. 13 fish landed between the three of us.
The Anchor pub (hiking distance) has rowing boats for hire too and more quality pub food.
Would certainly go back.

I stayed at this site for the first time over a weekend in June 2014. Secret Campsite would be idyllic if it weren't for some electricity lines running through it and the view of buildings from some pitches. Otherwise it is really atmospheric and rural feeling, though there is a lot of long grass which is not good for hay fever sufferers. The pitches are enormous and well spaced out, all with a fire pit. You can buy fire wood from reception. Some pitches have a picnic table and most not. The owner and his wife are very welcoming and helpful. There are nice little touches such as washing up bowls provided and you can borrow the site's ice blocks whilst refreezing your own. I also appreciated being able to charge my mobile phone in reception. You can get a tea, coffee or hot chocolate from reception between 9 and 11 a. M. On arrival you park your car in the car park and then take your gear to your pitch in wheelbarrows. There are two free solar powered showers and one electric one, which costs 20p for 5 minutes. I only used the former and the heat of the water in the one on the right was a little inconsistent. The washing up area is in the open. I didn't find the facilities quite as clean as previous reviewers, but they were okay. Once the sun has gone down it's pretty dark on site, as there are no lights anywhere except in the washrooms. This site is very obviously aimed at families with young children and noise after 10 pm would be a big no no. You can't invite friends from outside to visit you at your pitch and can only have four adults staying on one pitch and several children (I cant remember how many as that didn't affect me). All in all I would thoroughly recommend this site as long as you are not looking for somewhere to party.

Myself and a friend, along with her 9 year old daughter camped here back in May in the Tree House tent and I must say we had a fabulous time.
The Tree Tent was large enough for us all and very comfortable to sleep in with the temperature working well for that time of year.
We loved the way the areas were separated off just enough with the long grass to make you feel like you had your own space, without making you feel isolated, the outdoor furniture being a lovely additional touch.
We loved being so close to the woods and made the most of the great nature walks you can take, seeing the deer at night really made the trip, alongside all the other birds and nature you never to get to see as Londoners.
We especially liked the Secret Teapot and took advantage of the great hot chocolates provided!
Tim and his family have set up something special here and we are looking forward to coming again in 2015 with the rest of the family to stay in the amazing Gridshell.

Me and my lovely lady recently returned from a couple of days at the Secret Campsite. We got exactly what was advertised and more. Each tent pitch is more than generous in size, so that even though there were others sharing the field you never felt on show or over looked. The pitch we were given was nestled neatly next to woodland where I saw my first wild stoat. There's plenty of bird life hanging about for the amateur twitcher and pubs within walking distance. Lewes is a lovely town which is only a short drive away, but to be honest I didn't really want to leave the campsite. There are central toilet blocks which were spotless and more than adequate and compost loos nearer the pitches for late night dramas. Everything was as it should be and you're left wanting for nothing.
Your host is charming and warm, and happy to help. All in all I couldn't fault the stay. This is the first time I've bothered to write a review for a holiday, and I did it because I think the campsite deserves to prosper and others should bask in its reflected glory! Secret Campsite has been put together with care, thought and an eye for nature. Good work.

We stayed at the secret campsite for just one night, but wished we stayed longer! We had a lovely stay, excellent and clean facilities (toilets, showers, fridge, washing up area etc). You have a very large pitch to yourself away from other campers which is lovely and you can have a campfire too. Tim the owner was very welcoming and helped us with our things to the pitch. The surroundings were lovely and a short walk from the village of barcombe with lovely country pubs. We would highly recommend this campsite to families and couples wanting a fantastic camping experience!

Stayed here for a couple of nights, just a mum and a 5 year old.
A lovely site.
Pitches
Pitches are enormous - we took a family sized four berth, and the pitch would easily have taken another larger tent at the same time. There was a fire pit area for each pitch with logs to sit on. Saplings had been planted between pitches, and there were also meadowy areas, so you don't do feel on top of each other in the slightest.
Facilities
Showers and toilets were clean. Washing up area with fridge and ice block freezer, could perhaps have done with being a bit bigger, but always clean.
Location
Loads of space for kids to play. Walks straight from the campsite. Farm shop down the road. Beaches a few miles away. We visited friends in Brighton, which was about half an hour by car.
Best campsite I've been to camping with a child, due to the feeling of space yet security.

A very warm welcome, good quality toilet and shower block but above all space, privacy and the ability to have an open fire are the key features of this charming little site.
Our small group included children ranging from 9 months to 9 years and we felt very safe allowing them to roam around the site (well, they pushed the 9 month old).
Local sights, farm shops and eating options are plentiful although some of the pubs lacked a little in terms of service.
I almost don't want to tell you about it and keep it as my secret but the owners are so nice and I wish them all the very best. We'll definitely be going back.

I visited this site with my family, which includes a 10 month old and 3 year old. We spent 4 nights at the site.
The owner and his family were very welcoming and helpful. The owner has clearly put a lot of thought into the site. I loved the idea of being able to pick produce to eat. He had a herb garden and has planted fruit trees.
The facilities were clean and the solar showers were always hot.
The pitches were spacious and the site felt really safe for the children.
We found lots to do in the local area - numerous farm shops selling local produce, nice seaside, child friendly farm's to visit, mooching around Lewes, shady forest walks etc.
My only quibble was that as our stay coincided with some very hot weather, the pitches were not quite shady enough. However, the owner has planted lots of trees, which in a few years, should solve this problem.
Overall, we would highly recommend this site.

Great site and everything you expect camping to be. Plenty of space to put your tent and still have space for playing in - helped by there being no cars on the site. Campfire pit for sitting round and enjoying the really peaceful site. Enough facilities to wash, shower etc.
Totally recommended esp for first time camping with kids - maximise your chances of them getting the camping bug!
Location is good in that it is quiet, although not masses to do very close to site. But plenty to do within short drive, e. G. Lewes, Chailey common for walks etc.
