Just returned from a two night stay. 4 adults and 5 children. I can only agree with everyone else. The site is fantastic. Tim and his wife Lisa are doing a great job and are lovely people. As mentioned The Royal Oak is only a 30 min walk from the site where they do some lovely food and are very welcoming. There's the forest to explore. Great size pitches which, in some cases, can accommodate two tents. Nice hot, solar showers. Nice to be able to build a proper campfire to keep yourselves warm in the evening. The site is beautiful now and with the amount of work put in will only continue to get even better. As mentioned we only stayed for two nights but having realised how much there is to do in the local area will definitely return for a longer stay.

Really nice campsite. Quiet, but near all kinds of interesting places (Lewes, South Downs, National Trust, nearby Farmshop!). Really large pitches including a place for having a campfire. Pits are surrounded by wild grass, bushes.
Facilities are basic, but regularly cleaned. Above all it's ecofriendly.
Because cars aren't allowed directly to the pitch, it is save and nice for children to wander around.

Brilliant! A back to nature site but with decent toilets and showers. No cars are allowed on site so it is very safe for children which in turn means relaxing for adults. The pitches are huge, really spread out and set in either a lovely meadow or orchard setting with a flower and veggie patch near the reception. Tim the owner is great, very helpful and enthusiastic. We booked with friends and all the children aged 18 months to 7 and the adults had a fab time. Will definitely visit again

What a wonderful sunny week. I am reluctant to write a review because I don't want anyone else to visit the secret campsite. We want it for ourselves. Sites are well-spaced; each is a circle of mown grass reached by a track and a fireplace is there too. Woodland and grasses are growing around so that eventually each site will be secluded. No cars are allowed past the car park and it is a tents-only site with families welcome. The enthusiastic and friendly owner is on hand to help wheel your gear to your site. Without doubt it is the best site we've been on. So don't use it. The nearest pub is a 25 min walk along an abandoned railway line, turn left and through a sports field.

The place is everything it claims to be. Wonderful, private, large plots with idyllic views. The owners and their lovely children are all on hand to help and advise. Saw lots of other children playing and exploring safely, but it was also immensely peaceful, with everything on hand you need. , like good clean showers and a fantastic neighbouring farmshop. Would highly recommend this site to anyone who wants an escape from the city.

Me, my partner and 4 children visited this site for 3 nights in June, we had the most lovely weekend away! The pitches are so nicely spaced apart which was perfect for our large family. We loved the fact that we could have our own campfire every evening and a real nice space next to our tent for the kids to play. The toilet block and showers were always clean, basic but all that you need. We always had enough hot water and there is a little coin meter system if you run out! There is also a washing up room with a fridge and freezer which was fab as it was such a hot weekend! The way the site is at the minute is perfect, just the right amount of pitches so even when it was full on one evening it didn't feel that way! I really hope it stays the same size as you have a nice feeling of space. There's a small woodland that can be accessed, which the kids loved playing in and making things there, Tim the owner was always on hand and was very good with our kids and made sure he stopped to listen to them when they wanted a chat! Overall a fab little campsite, friendly and enthusiastic owner, will be going back!

Nice part or the world in the rolling South Downs. Lewes is only a short drive away.
Very good campsite with very large pitches in an attractive field. Fires allowed, which was great. Better constructed fire pits would be a worthwhile improvement.
Not easy to find the entrance, even when you know you know that you are close - read the directions.
It's pricey for camping, the pitches are luxurious, but the facilities are ordinary.

This is a brilliant campsite. I chose it because it was advertised as being peaceful, with pitches well separated, no large groups, it had great reviews, good location. It didn't disappoint.
We were welcomed by the owner who's very proud of his latest business venture. We loaded our kit on to trolleys and followed Tim down a path over an old railway bridge (over the site of the old Bluebell railway) into the camping meadow. Pitches couldn't have been much further apart. There were about 12 pitch locations in this part of the site, each separated by newly planted trees, grasses and other planting - so not the usual open field. Trees/woodland surround the meadow - and you can access the walk where old railway once ran.
We had a great weekend. The site was very chilled. The no large group policy certainly paid off. A local farm shop was a quick walk down the disused railway line and over a field. There are some great pubs within a short drive. The site is set in the south downs - so some great walks are easily accessed. Lewes is 5 miles away.
The facilities, although basic, are exactly what I was looking for - hot solar showers, in a very clean toilet block. I think the toilet block must have been cleaned pretty regularly during our stay. There is a fridge in the wash room.
I went with a couple of school friends who were in no way seasoned campers (nor I am), but all thought it was a great site. I shall be returning later in season with my family. I know my kids with love the site.
And, oh yes they allow camp fires!

Spent a great weekend at the Secret Campsite. As other reviewers have commented, the owner was extremely friendly and helpful, met us on arrival, showed us round and even helped carry our stuff over to the pitch.
Fantastic feeling of space as each pitch is a long way from the next. Good facilities - not many, but plenty for the number of people staying.
Fires allowed and bricks provided.
Great walks to nearby Barcombe, both across the fields and down the disused railway line. Excellent farm shop a very close distance away.
Thoroughly recommended site - a great escape and feeling of freedom, peace and quiet. Lots of space for kids to let off steam without disturbing others.
A great place to camp.

Have just returned from a cracking weekend at 'The Secret Campsite”.
The owner was very friendly and welcoming, giving us the choice of pitch. Everything is spick and span, no litter.
When you arrive you can take wheel barrows to ferry your stuff to your pitch.
They provided us with plenty of logs for the campfire and breakfast fire.
We had an amazing time, even though we stayed only 1 night but we definitely will come back again.
The campsite a gem! Being able to relax on an evening with a fire, a bbq and a glass of wine or a beer will always get the thumbs up
Definitely will be going back again in the future.
