We used this site as a one night stop over prior to catching the ferry from Plymouth.
For our requirements it was spot on. Just off the main road we were greeted by a delightful lady in reception who, after politely listening to my complaints about the uk motorway system, sold us our wifi and directed us to the site wardens who accompanied us to our pitch. After helping position our caravan they pointed out water, grey waste etc.
Good sized pitch in a well manicured site The toilet block was spotless, plenty showers cubicles basins toilets etc -even had listenable piped music. Walking area for dogs in a mowed meadow adjacent to tents area.
Decent pub /restaurant in short walking distance. Dog friendly both outside on the decking and inside in the restaurant. Co-op in village of chudleigh about 1. 5miles away.
All in all we thought this a delightful site, well presented, well managed and run.

On arrival, the wardens were quick to identify and help first-time caravaners, and took the hassle out of reversing the caravan onto our pitch, locating and connecting the water, electrics and gas, and even coming inside to check that the fridge, oven, hob, etc. All worked. They took time to give some helpful tips, and were not rushing us in any way.
The site was gorgeous. When we were there, there were just a handful of kids, so it was quite peaceful throughout. Our kids loved the wildlife aspect, as well as the wide open play area.
The toilet and shower block was immaculate and we have been spoiled with this. They certainly set a high bar for the rest of Devon to follow. Throughout our stay, the wardens were always seen being busy and being friendly to the kids.
The location of the campsite meant we could easily explore all the attractions in the area. When we return, we will use this campsite again.
Well done Holmans Wood!

Just had a week at this site. Located 2 minutes from A38. On arrival staff were first class, helping us to locate pitch which was reasonable size, and unhitching caravan. Asked for pitch near facilities, but these are taken by seasonal pitch holders, so spouse struggled with incline to get back to caravan. Sight well maintained and toilet/shower block spotless though dated. Site poorly lit at night so could possibly deter people from venturing to facilities as site has open access for pedestrians and lacks sense of night time security. Nice peaceful stay, but some road noise from A38

Just had to say have been reading comments from smithygang, we have been going to holmans wood for 6 years, the owners are very friendly people, the wardens they have had for the last two years are very nice, polite, and always ready to help, The campsite is well kept, shower and toilet facilaties are immaculate. This is because of the dedicated hard work of the wardens, well done holmans wood you are a top class site

This was an unplanned one night stop due to problems earlier in the day which meant I had no chance of reaching my original destination. The wardens were unfazed by a small camper arriving at 9.30pm at night, desperately seeking a pitch. They were incredibly friendly and helpful, sorted a pitch out - with hook up, guided the van onto it and made sure they pointed out the toilet/shower facilities etc and where their own van was in case of any problems.
In the morning they passed by the van to make sure everything was ok for me and to enquire when I would be leaving so they could be available to open the (pass operated) barrier as they were in the middle of bin emptying etc and didn't want me to be delayed if they were on the other side of the site. They were absolute stars and I hope the site owners appreciate them!
Due to the late arrival/early start I didn't see much of the site but the facility block was immaculately clean and warm, the showers were spacious, with room to hang clothing and dress without getting everything soaked, the water was plentiful/hot and the grounds were well tended and rubbish free.
Located just outside a village and within walking distance from what looked like a lovely pub I would like to make a planned visit next time.

We have just spent a week at Holmans Wood and wow it was truly fantastic !
The tenting meadow is just so beautiful and there is an abundance of butterflies, birds and other wildlife to view. On your doorstep.
Pitches are spacious and thoughtfully placed to allow each of them a view.
Facilities are the best I have experienced in 25 years of camping. Exceptionally clean.
Staff couldn't be any more friendly or helpful.
We also had friends staying in a touring caravan who enjoyed the time as much as we did.
We have already booked a long weekend in September to go back.

Stayed here for a week in August.
First the pro's:
Beautiful, tranquil site with good, level, fully serviced pitches. The toilet block, although dated, is immaculately clean and well maintained. Did struggle with a seven meter hose to reach the aqua roll though
Local facilities in the village, one mile away are more than adequate with a good mix of pubs and a couple of shops.
The site is ideal for exploring South Devon with easy access to the A38 and A380.
There is a small, community ran swimming pool in the village which is cheap and friendly.
The play area is also great on site if you are travelling with kids. It is situated in a sunken area surrounded by caravans and gives a feel of a safe environment to leave the kids in their own space for a while where you can observe from afar.
There is a well stocked information cabin giving loads of ideas of things to do which also contains a small freezer you can use to freeze your cooler blocks.
Onsite laundry is also adequate but make sure you have a few pound coins to operate.
Wildlife is in abundance and there are plenty of birds and rabbits to be seen running around
The cons:
Bikes and scooters are banned on all parts of the site other than the play area which is grassed so using a scooter is impossible for the kids.
We were also told we couldn't use the water at our pitch to connect a hosepipe other than to fill the aqua roll. This seemed to be a case of who you were as I witnessed numerous people using hosepipes to clean cars and vans who seemed to have a blind eye turned by the wardens. We were also told to leave our commercial vehicle at the gates, but again witnessed vans on site apparently allowed to park as they weren't sign written. A commercial vehicle is a commercial vehicle whichever way you look at it. The same applied to wind breaks which are banned.
Overall it is a beautiful, peaceful site and I would certainly return even though the wardens could do with some education of the site rules

This site is predominantly serving the caravan fraternity.
First, the not so good news.
The Meadow, which is reserved for tents, is best described as the edge of an undulating field, so I found it very difficult to find a level pitch.
As a solo camper, I had a reduced rate at every other site I stayed at except this one, where I was charged the minimum rate for a tent plus two adults, making this the most expensive site I stayed at during my week touring. Not too bad for a couple though, so should only be seen as an inhibitor if travelling alone.
There was no option for electricity on site for tents, however the staff were very helpful and allowed me to plug in my phone charger at the office (which I felt was over and above expectations, so a big plus point).
The good news
The site is particularly well presented and for those hauling kids along, there is a wonderful play area situated in a sunken area located in the middle of the caravan park and surrounded by caravans, so no doubt plenty of individuals to keep an eye on what's going on.
The shower and toilet facilities were also first rate as was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, so overall - recommended for couples with or without kids.
I only stayed the one night and left quite early the following morning so I'm unable to comment on the shop facilities located nearby.
Would I stay here again? Yes, if with the wife.

Lovely weekend on this site, easy to find, lovely big hard standing, nice and clean facilities - never saw anyone else in there all weekend! went with the outlaws, though their pitch was located on the other size of the park even though we booked together.
One recommendation - the chemical toilet emptying was not one of the most user friendly ones ever encountered.
Great second hand clothes shop in the village, the Haunted Highwayman a short walk away along level road (take a torch!)decent beer but food not as good as we'd hoped and the place is apparently boycotted by site goers so visit at your peril.
Gorgeous day out in Dartmouth wandering round shops and pubs recommended.
