My friend and I were lucky enough to secure the new 'Family Pod' for our stay at Kings Down Tail during Sidmouth Folk Week.
Basically, our 'Hobbit House' as our friends called it, had a couple of ears on the outside, one of which is a double bed, and the other is a toilet and wash hand basin. In the main 'body' of the pod is a bunk bed with double mattress below and single above, a curved sofa, a coffee table and a small kitchenette area containing a sink, microwave, kettle, fridge and TV.
All very cosy and theoretically accommodating 6 persons. However, we found it to be perfect for 2! Whilst it's true that 6 people (at a push) could sleep there, that would leave absolutely nowhere for anybody's 'stuff. ' There is a bit of cupboard space under the sink and work surface and we put our food/utensils/cooking stuff there. Our clothes etc were all stored on the bottom bunk with one of us sleeping on the top bunk and the other in the 'ear. '
The Pod really came into its own when it rained, and boy did it rain! It was very lovely holed up there while the heavens opened. You would, however, have to be good friends with anyone you stayed with as you can hear everything.
We also took full advantage of the fire pit and had a BBQ for a few friends one evening.
So, an experience we can recommend but sadly one we won't be repeating as unbeknownst to us the campsite took a booking for next year's Folk Week the day we arrived. Naively we thought we would get the option to book first, but it wasn't to be, and I guess that next year we will either be in a tent or a B & B!

We visited this site mid season, the pitch allocated was just about big enough for our van and awning. In all fairness the pitch next to us was left vacant so we could park our cars, a nice touch.
This is a family run site and the owners were very friendly. They never stopped working, when a pitch was vacated the grass was cut straight away. Toilets and showers great, never lacked hot water and always clean, family bathroom a nice touch if you have young children.
Shop sold all the basics and included small café. Site easy to get to and handy for Seaton/ Sidmouth etc. Wifi was a little hit and miss but as it was free can't complain.
Would have liked the option of our own water and drainage like some of the seasonal pitches but that's just being picky. We have in the past visited a larger site just down the road but we much prefer this one and we will visit again soon.

Fantastic location for visiting Sidmouth, Seaton, Beer, lyme Regis etc. Bus stop outside goes to all the above places, also free hopper bus that goes to Sidmouth stopping at Donkey sanctuary.
Nice level pitches with water taps near by. Washroom very clean with plenty of room in cubicle. There is also three all in one washrooms with toilet basin and shower.
Very good play park for kids and indoor play room for toddlers.
Reasonable price shop on site with wifi and leaflets.
Laundry facilities and dishwashing also available.
Dog walk at back along track near Donkeys with bin either end.
Only slight problem was no regulator on showers, lights kept dimming, road noise not a problem but some might have problem with loud donkeys.
I would recommend this site.

Stayed on the site in a tent for half term. We were in the sheep fold which was quite a walk to the main shower block but was spacious and gave the kids plenty of room to run around.
The main shower block was well maintained and clean. The showers were hot, almost too hot for the children. There was plenty of hot water for washing up and the addition of draining racks was useful.
The children loved the play area.
Great site for visiting the area. It is next to a main road but the only noise was from the sheep in the field next door.
Would definitely recommend this site.

Stayed here as part of a group of families with young children camping at Kings Tail. The camping field is nice and level and took tent pegs easily. The only small downside is that the road is quite close to traffic noise was easily heard.
There is a lovely playground and playroom which our kids took full advantage of. Everything there was well maintained.
The toilets and showers were kept very clean and it was very handy having the site launderette for when my smallest had an accident in the middle of the night!
The staff were also very friendly and helpful - overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would have no problem recommending to anyone.

Excellent site, very convenient for coast from Sidmouth to Lyme Regis.
Shower block and toilets very clean although no heating. Particularly liked the shower rooms with toilet and basin. Grass cut short but could do with a laid path to the bins and water disposal when the grass is wet. Right on main road but minimal night time traffic noise. Will return when in this area again.
Free wi-fi in reception, basics available in shop.

Can't praise this site enough. Toilets and showers are excellent. Owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The site is quite large but is still quiet and spacious. It is in an excellent position straight off the main road and between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. There is even a little free bus that will pick you up on site that will take you down into Sidmouth. Nice country lane walk for doggies.

A great campsite, stayed for two nights with a tent and although the site is mainly caravans this didn't impact my stay and everyone is really friendly and helpful
The whole site is very well maintained and the facilities are kept spotless and are very modern, one of the best campsites I have stayed at and will certainly return

A perfect location for our visit to river cottage which I booked easily over the phone, on arrival late afternoon we were greeted at reception by very friendly owners who showed us a few available pitches for us to choose from. We set up on our chosen pitch near to the toilet /shower facilities, which were absolutely spotless every time we used them. There was also an area for washing up dishes if needed. Our pitch was spacious with plenty of room for our caravan, awning and car on our hard standing level pitch (there are a lot of large pitches plus some which are a bit smaller but all big enough for all equipment) The whole site was level with addition space at the rear of the site where there were camping pitches and also the option to rent camping pods. In reception area there was a shop with essentials plus fresh bread and cakes daily, there was also a seated area where you could relax. There was a play area for children which our daughter enjoyed. During the season there are times when catering outlets visit the site for a few hours giving holiday makers the option of a nice reasonably priced treat and a break from cooking. We are new this year to touring caravan holidays and I chose this site purely on location and we were really pleased with the site, the owners were brilliant, nothing too much trouble and the whole site was clean and tidy. All visitors complied with night time noise curfew which was great for a good sleep. Great location for Sidmouth and Seaton but also only about 10 miles from river cottage which has some good events throughout the year. Also worth a visit is the local Donkey sanctuary which is only a couple of miles away. I cannot put down any negative comments because we didn't see or have any issues at all. We will definitely be returning next year.

Spent two nights here over the late May bank holiday to test out our new tent.
Main field is fairly full with seasonal caravans, we were shown to one of ?2 other fields and offered our choice of pitch. Field was level and grass nice and short. We chose a corner near the entrance to the dog walking area. Close enough to still be near the facilities but a bit quieter than the main field.
The washing up and toilet facilities were excellent. Cleaned daily and spotless. Lovely reception area with shop and cafe.
There is a lovely outside play area for kids and an indoor playroom which was a great hit with my 3 year old. Ask for the key from reception.
Great location, nice a quite. Handy shuttle bus for Sidmouth and donkey sanctuary.
Owners were very friendly and helpful.
Will definitely be returning.
