I found the site clean and tidy with 5 ladies shower and plenty of loos, washing up and laundry facilities, all of which were clean. The lady in reception/shop was very helpful. No pointless rules as you find at some large sites and very quiet. We camped in the field to the right of main site and even though it was peak season there were only two other tents in this area and there was at least 10 vacant pitches on the main field. The road runs by but is not a problem as very little trafic at night. Great for visiting the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary, Branscombe and beer.

Not recommended atall. The shower and toilet areas were unhygenic and not even cleaned daily despite the site being fully booked due to the Sidmouth folk festival. Generally, the facilities are old and in need of modernisation. However, basic cleanliness was extremely poor. Additionally, there are only 3 female showers for the whole site. My husband also found the male showers to be filthy at times.
The location was good and sited within easy reach of Sidmouth. The shop was well stocked with all the essentials.

First impression of site upon arrival was not very good,shop/reception was closed between 11.00 and 4.00 .Luckily we arrived 3.30 so not too long to wait.Plus point for this site, the staff are very friendly and polite. This is only a small campsite being run by a family who try to do what they can for you.The play area was not very practical or safe , it is not fenced in and is close to the main road. The main toilet block was kept clean, but the shower block and games room being in the old RAF buildings were not the best. Overall not a bad campsite

This touring camp was a find on what must be one of the busiest coastlines in Devon. On the approach to the camp it does seem as though you might be trying to join the army, but once inside the feeling soon goes, and a warm welcome awaits. Our pitch, of which we had a choice, was very large and close to the toilet block. the toilets were clean but would soon need a lick of paint ( they are converted Army blocks ) so I would think they can be quite demanding to keep in shipshape condition, but were acceptable and the rest of the camp was peaceful. If I was visiting this part of the country again I would stop here again.

This is a nice site in an ideal location on the S Devon coast. There are many attractions to visit in the area. It seems to be predominantly touring caravans and there was an Easter rally on during the weekend we visited. We pitched our tent in a separate area so this was not a problem. It was a quiet site despite the rally and we had a relaxing weekend. The site owners were friendly and helpful, the shop was well stocked and the washing up area, showers and toilets were clean and well maintained at this time. The only downside was the distance from the tent area to the showers and toilets, a bit of a nightmare on a chilly April night but this may only be the case if the site is full when you visit.

Currently store our caravan at kings down tail owners Sue and and Ian always make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble and they bend over backwards to help you.
Site is nicely laid out with large pitches there is a large toilet block at the bottom which could definately see some paint on the outside. The toilet block was very clean the only thing I wasn't keen on was the steps leading to the toilet as they were very steep and I was worried in case they got wet and I had visions of me slipping up so I tended to use the ones in middle of field which didn't have any steps.
The new shop/ reception is really nice and well laid out and the new disabled wet room is a fantastic idea and well laid out. The games room is good with table tennis and pool and kept the kids in my party well entertained. I was told by somebody in my party that the showers were never very warm but that dosen't bother me personally as I use the shower on my van. Am looking at getting a bigger caravan but will definetly be keeping it here.
The campsite is very near to the donkey sanctury and can often be heard from the site which is nice and sometimes sheep as it's right in the countryside and would definetly reccomend!

We stayed here for 3 nights, well spaced pitches, owners made us feel very welcome. Small shop on site, clean toilets and shower block. Ideal base for touring East Devon, Sidmouth, Lyme Regis etc. Beaches are a drive away, good dog walking track which take you into nearest village. Was an old army barracks but don't let that put you off from booking here as been updated and very much improved from the last review left. Would most definitely go back again.

July 2005 The site is very relaxed and well presented yes it does look a bit like an ex army barracks as this is what it used to be in the war. Ian and Sue run the site and are always buzzing around making sure everything is running smoothly. No problem with lack of space in the showers just had to wait in the morning due to sidmouth festival. If you like a relaxing place to stay then this site is for you no pub or club on site and beaches (mainly pebbels) are all a short drive away. The park has 3 swings a slide and a monkey rope kids enjoyed it a lot although my only concern is that its right by the entance and the main road a small fence wouldnt be amiss. If you are looking for a park to store your caravan in and out of season then this may well be worth looking at as they are very affordble although worthy of a note is the site is on top of a hill and can be sometimes covered in low cloud.

May 2005 Our first impressions as you drive in to this site were, is this a camp site or an army camp!!! Let me explain: The buildings on your left were obviously some sort of military training ones that now house the toilets, showers and games room. They are very much in need of some TLC, they were pretty tatty, and my wife said her showers were not warm enough, although I found the men’s was fine. They need updating, even if they were painted white instead of army green would help, the shower doors had broken hooks and many tiles were cracked and mouldy, and some windows were either stuck shut or open.
But, as you turn the corner onto the camping field things look much better. It is well laid out with large well marked pitches and very well maintained. All the caravans and motor homes are around the perimeter track with the tent area in the middle. The main road is one field away so a bit of road noise but it was well shielded by hedging. There is a very small shop / reception. In the middle of the field is a small modern toilet block with a washing up area. It’s a real shame that the shower block let this site down because the camping field is excellent, the area is excellent.

August 2004 Huge field with plenty of space, even during Sidmouth Folk Festival week. Tents neatly separated from caravan area. Relaxed, "hands off" management style and a calm, quiet, atmosphere. Excellent facilities. Recommended
