We stayed here for 3 nights, this is our second visit in the last 2 years and have just booked a third time for the end of May. We absolutely love this site! The owners, and their support staff, are always VERY friendly and helpful. They made sure that we could be near the entrance to the dog walk, as we had requested, and the site is always very clean and tidy. The shower blocks are new and are kept clean and tidy. The hot water is always plentiful.

The site, although quite busy was very quiet and peaceful. The shop is stocked with fresh bread, cakes and pastries at reasonable prices. There is a nice comfortable seating area with sofas and table and chairs. We ordered two papers for each morning we were there and these were there by 8. 30 every morning. Although, this time, we did not use the chippy van this is a lovely thing to have on a Saturday evening.

We do not have any children but the play area has been upgraded and looks very enticing with lots of different and exciting things for the children to play on.

We have 3 small dogs. Unlike most campsites that only allow a maximum of 2 dogs per pitch, Kingsdown Tail do not have a maximum and at £1 per night per dog, we thought this was very reasonable. The dog walk is a lovely little track running alongside the campsite, shaded by trees and hedges. It's very secluded and great to let the dogs run.

As said, the owners are fantastic. When trying to book for the May bank holiday weekend, I was told they were very full and all the main pitches had been booked. They have gone out of their way to accommodate us in another field, with electric, which we feel is amazing service!

We would DEFINITELY recommend this site for a break. It is very close to Sidmouth and Beer and our trips to the donkey sanctuary are part of every trip. The pub down the road is great but the road is very steep and busy with not a lot of paths so driving would probably be safer than walking. We hope you do visit this site and enjoy is as much as we do!

We only stayed for a couple of nights but it was peaceful. Very well maintained site and the owners are very helpful and friendly. The small shop is well stocked with a nice comfy seating area. We will be back.

We visited the site for 5 nights in july 2015 touring Devon & Dorset by motorbike & towing a camping trailer, upon arrival we were greeted by Vicki who was very pleasant to meet & talk to, she showed us our 2 EHU plots right next to each other we also spoke to her husband Dave who was also pleasant even though they both seemed busy at all times, the site was very quiet even with children present, the new toilet & shower block was kept clean & tidy at all times with plenty of loo roll & soap, the ground was quite level & had good drainage but was a bit stony so I would advise to take strong tent pegs. There is a bus stop right outside of the site which was very handy for Sidmouth, Donkey Sanctuary, Seaton Etc. We left a day early because the weather forecast was torrential for our last day & without asking Vicki reimbursed me that days fee, all in all we would definitely visit the site again.

Dave and Victoria were very welcoming and helpful. Kings Down Tail is a quiet, clean and tidy site. Lovely play area for children and the area is flat with easy access to Sidmouth, Seyton, etc.

The facilities are plentiful and well maintained, lots of hot showers! We enjoyed our stay very much, thank you!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay and cannot wait to go back. Very family friendly site and the facilities are great. Cannot recommend site enough. We arrived Monday morning and were given numerous pitches to choose from but we decided to pitch up in the overflow field. Not far to walk to facilities and the kids loved playing in the field. The shop on site is very reasonably priced and has fresh bread, pastry's and a wide choice of food, drink and even camping goods. We were extremely impressed with the choice and prices. Next time we will stay for longer and make a point of ordering fish n chips on a sat delivered to the site. The play area has had numerous new additions which make it very enjoyable for the kids. If you want a great family site you will not be disappointed at all and the owners cannot do enough to help.

What a lovely site! Situated only a few miles from Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth etc, Kings Down Tail is real gem of a site with great facilities and hosts in the new site owners.

A completely level site, with lots of space and a fantastic play area for the kids (my son could have happily spent the whole weekend in the pirate ship), a perfect place to relax.

The showers are really warm with good pressure and unlike many campsites, once they are on, they are on, no annoying buttons to keep pressing to get the water. I believe that the shower and toilet facilities are going to receive an upgrade for the 2015 season which will improve the site even further.

Really useful little shop including a fresh herb garden to help add a bit extra to your BBQ.

With such a lovely a welcome from the Paget family, we are already looking forward to our next visit to Kings Down Tail.

 Spent 6 nights here.

Check in was bit quirky, owner knew we were arriving but allocated a pitch on the fly. Showed us to the pitch, quite large, gravel standing but space for awning to go onto grass. All serviced pitches large and flat. Site access good - straight of the A road. Traffic noise not an issue due to roadside hedges and trees.

Site clean and oddly quiet for a peak week in a popular area but might have been due to high proportion of unoccupied seasonal pitches.

Shower/toilet blocks looked dated but clean and functional, might strain if site full. Shop small but adequate - Morrisons 5 mins away. No club house. Games rooms, playground and lots of safe space for kids to play. A huge unserviced (and this week unoccupied) camping field could increase the play area.

Surrounding area worth a visit but mainly for 'chilling' rather than 'doing'(walking/cycling excepted). Those with little 'uns should be aware that local beaches are mainly pebble. Sidford, on way to Sidmouth, has an excellent chippy - Bloaters.

All in all a really nice site and a good location.

After initial unhappiness as had booked electric pitch to be told that there was none left, then to be shown to one that was uneven, to finally being shown to a lovely pitch, we were very happy.

Lovely site, very clean and lots of space for the children. Shop stocks most essentials but do check opening times on arrival. Some road noise during the day, but much quieter at night.

Fantastic location, sheltered from the coast but close enough to visit Beer, Seaton, Sidmouth within a 10 min drive. Would definitely visit again.

Large field for tent with water pipe at entrance, grassy areas and you pitch anywhere.

Main area as you drive in is for caravans which are close together. This area is for EHU.

Toilets and showers are clean with plenty of hot water. I never waited for a shower cubicle once and site was packed.

Laundry room and washing up are together which is good, very clean areas and washers and dryers are operated with a token from reception.

Toilet block is available in main area where caravans are and it's quite a walk from tent field, especially if you have kids who want to go to loo every two mins. The tent field was great as at bottom end you could play with your dog and let dog off lead.

I only visited shop twice which was to book in and pay my money on arrival and another visit for bits and pieces.

Villages and towns around the campsite are lovely and Beer and branscombe and Sidmouth are great, lovely shops in Beer, if your interested in animals a visit to donkey sanctuary is well worth a trip and it's free!

What a splendid site! Needed to find a site near to Sidmouth for a family event and picked out Kings Down Tail from this web site's search. Very glad we did.

Site is open and level, good sized marked pitches with plenty of water, waste, refuse points.

Ex-military buildings which house the showers have been refurbished to a high standard and all toilets and showers were clean and well maintained. Showers had lots of pressure & hot water AND were high enough up the wall for normal sized people rather than midgets.

For those with bus passes the bus stop couldn't be closer - right outside the gate and for those exploring by car the site is well located on the A3052 (although we didn't notice any traffic noise) convenient for Sidmouth, Seaton and the Jurassic Coast.

The shop on site is only open at certain times and as it doubles as the reception it would probably be a good idea to put up a sign saying that the reception still operates when the shop is closed.

That apart, great site, and £17.95 p/n, with electric & dog, at Easter? Can't fault it!
