Nice clean site. The owner could not be more helpful. Basic facilities but all you need shops, club, beach are all in walking distance and lovely views, dogs allowed but not in the separate naturist area. The sea is about 5 minute walk over sand dunes to very clean beach that gently slopes so great for the kids to play in. Dog walk next to site with rabbits to torment your dogs '!'
Keep your eyes open see if you can spot a dolphin

It was the first time I had been to the Benar Beach site and did not know really what to expect. I had a very pleasant surprise when I found the site to be quiet, clean and well kept.
The site manager Dave was a very pleasant guy who I had some great conversations with about the 'pregnant lady', two mountains that look like all the world a pregnant woman lying down. If you go there don't forget to ask Dave about her!
The beach is a ten minuet walk away from the site through some really outstanding sand dunes, and if so inclined as I was, a fifteen minute walk at the north beach, and no clothing is required on the naturist beach.
While I was there we had three days of glorious sunshine, but the weather turned sour as it did over most of the country and everything was rather soggy.
David is forever striving to make improvements to the site, and gives guests a handout to fill in with regards to suggestions for the site.
I will be returning this year all being well, for another few days of relaxation.

Me and the wife been going here for the last 12 years plus. This is a lovely friendly site with a small private section for naturists. All facilities are clean. The beach is a short walk with no roads to cross, great for the kids. The site owner is always there to give a helping hand to any one in trouble, which is usually me and the wife - I will get the hang of putting a awning up lol! The site over the road has a club/shop and a chippy come cafe which you can use. Barmouth is about 4 miles one way and Harlec is about the same the other way, with Shell Island only up the road.

I returned to Benar Beach in early April and again over the Easter weekend.
Regarding the first visit. Early April is always a funny period along this part of the Merionethshire coast, despite the often fine weather. Quite a few camp sites double as spring pasture for sheep in February and March when most camp sites are banned from opening under Snowdonia National Park's rule about not opening between September and Easter.
The Easter weekend was a totally different matter. On arriving at Benar Beach on Good Friday evening there was a 'Site full - regulars only' sign on the gate. The site was busy and so was the beach.
The site as always was in a clean and tidy condition, similar to my last visit.
One new feature, was the construction of another walled area, in the corner of the top field. On the Easter weekend the area was open to anyone to use. However I suspect that in time, this area may become, during periods of peak demand, an area available for club block-bookings. Alternatively it may serve as an overflow naturist camping area, given that Benar Beach is the only site within walking distance of the nearby official naturist beach to allow naturism on the site itself.
Despite the prominent message on the introduction to the Benar Beach article, the majority of the site is still non-naturist, as demanded by the camp site rules, and likely to remain so, given that both the main fields are visible from the road. Likewise most of the beach is non-naturist and the part that is, is indicated by prominent signage.
As a naturist my main reason for staying here, is to use the naturist beach. However let me assure any non-naturists that the only way you will see a naturist 'au naturel' is either if you walk into the naturist enclosure on site, or make the long walk up to the naturist beach, ignoring the warning sign. Naturists have to dress before walking to the shower or toilet blocks.
One other point. As previously mentioned, Benar Beach's neighbour, the Dyffryn Seaside Estate, has a pub and takeaway, which are open to non-residents. On visiting the pub it was redecorated throughout and the service was friendly with no notice taken of the fact I was in fact on a neighbouring site. So it came as no surprise to learn, that the pub changed hands a year or so ago. For these reasons my earlier criticism dated May 2008 no longer applies.

My friend and I were very pleased with this campsite. The owner was helpful and there are more leaflets to take from his office than you could possibly read! The toilets are right by where you camp and were very clean, the only downside was that the Male and Female signs were in Welsh only so we had to wait for someone to go in before being able to use them but I suppose we were in Wales. The one starting in D is for the men as a hint for anyone visiting!
The beach was a 5 minute walk away along a beautiful wooden path through the sand dunes. We weren't aware of the nudist part of the beach but it made no difference and it's a good 1 mile walk up from where you join the beach so don't worry about your kids seeing anything.
We were given a free keyring and told we could do a one night stay in the future if we showed that when we booked, the owner was kind and let us stay just for one night this 1st time and that's quite rare in high season I should imagine. There was no prejudice against us even though we were 2 single males, we'd recently been turned away from 4 other places in 10 minutes just because of this! Don't let this put you off if you are a family though, the rules seemed strictly enforced and there was no noise or trouble from male groups. It even provided a moment of comedy as one man tried chatting up a female camper without realising her husband was behind him!
It's hard to fault this site. It's nice and flat and you can hear even the sea lapping the beach at night. The scenery of the hills from the site itself is great.

We have visited this site a number of times now,the last few as naturists.
Always found David very friendly and helpful as are many of the naturists that use the walled off area.
We think 50p for a hot no time limit shower very reasonable. The owner and his wife keep these facilities spotless. Only gripe is the naturist section could do with another toilet during busy times of the year.
The location is a few minutes walk from the beach and 1 mile walk in a north direction to the naturist section of the beach.
The area itself has a pub near the next site.A chip shop with very irregular hours and a rail stop 3/4 mile away with a couple of pounds return to Barmouth,
When the weather is good there is no nicer place to be in Wales -

At £15 with no electric hook up, I thought it a bit steep but I suppose camp site owners need to make their money when the sun shines so I`m happy with it.
The facilities are basic and could probably do with updating as I remember they were exactly the same when I first stayed here, 15 years ago. It's 50 pence for a shower but there`s no time limit like some sites where the water cuts off when you`re covered in lather.
The bloke that runs the site was very helpful although the chap in the caravan next to me said he thought he was a miserable so & so, probably because he had to pay extra to have other members of his family stay with him. I`d certainly stay here again.
The location is superb for a bit of peace and quiet, fabulous scenery and miles of wonderful beach. Didn`t spot any nudists though and the weather was fantastic. I must remember my binoculars and raincoat the next time I`m here !

We visited this site just for 2 nights, it's a well kept site and although basic we had a great time.
Beautiful area and fantastic beach.
There is a proper toilet block, 5 toilets at each end for both Gents and woman. There is one shower in this block for each sex, but there is a portakabin that the other end, Dave charges 50p each for use of the showers.
The beach is so closed that you can even hear the waves lapping on the beach in the middle of the night.
There isn't a shop on site, but there is another site 5mins walk away that you can get basic supply's from, prices are a little higher than normal, but handy.
We were charged £12.00 per night for a large tent I believe it would be £15.00 for a caravan or tent with electric hook up.
There is a railway station approx 10mins walk away, the train runs into Barmouth, but careful to check on train times for your return journey as I think the last train back is around 10pm.
Already planning in going back in the next few weeks, and may even try going for a week in the summer.

This was a nice little find for our last night in Wales. It cost us £15 for a van with EHU and although the facilities are a bit basic, the location more than makes up for it.
The site owner is very friendly, stocks more leaflets than a Tourist Information office, and even gave me a run down of the surrounding hills and mountains!
I wasn't aware of the connections to naturism in this area until we strolled towards the beach and read the signs! The main beach is a fantastic one though. Miles of endless sand and clear water. It was empty when we were there too. We never ventured towards the naturist's part of the beach but dare say as it was a freezing cold wind I don't think anyone would be getting their kit off!
Back to the site review, it was a quiet week in May so only a handful of other couples were on the site. The trees sheltered our location from the sea breeze, but it was still chilly. We had a couple of things running on electric then suddenly the power went off! It only affected us and the next caravan and the trip switches were all 'on', so I had to call the site owner (this was 10:30 at night!)
He drove back down and reset the main trip which was locked away somewhere else. Fortunately the power stayed on through the night, but we managed to trip it again early the next morning. Still don't know what we did, if anything, and why the trip switch where we plugged in didn't trip first so I could reset it myself?
All in all, it was a nice, quiet ideal location. Great beach, nice price though basic facilities. There were a few places in Talybont village to get food, and a chip shop and pub down by the next campsite but we didn't use any of them so can't comment on what they're like.
Would recommend it highly for location and proximity to a fantastic stretch of beach, but not recommend it so much for facilities but it wasn't really a problem.
One more thing, the location map on here puts it a bit further down the road than it actually is. It's off the main road, across the train line, and very close to the beach.

We love his site, owner is welcoming and always chatty shows you to your pitch. The toilets and showers are dated but OK and cleaned regular there is a charge for the showers. Great views to hills and handy for the wonderful beach. My only moan is prices to seem to change and if booking all your hols in a block early in the year often pay more than expected when you arrive.
But it is a nice place to be, lots of folk are there every year lots of regulars.
We will be trying the Naturist section next year
