Found this campsite quite by accident and really glad we did. What a lovely quiet and clean site, the staff couldn't do enough for you and made you feel very welcome. The toilets where lovely and clean with lots of hot water. Its only a small site but the surrounding area has plenty to do. The only negative was as our car is quite low the bumper caught on a couple of speed bumps. But this is definitely a site we will go back to.

We have just stayed at this site and although we were only there for one night we found it very clean and exceptionally well run and tidy. Wonderful welcome and nice staff.
Shop was good and sold basics which was ideal, able to get new calor gas bottle too !
Will return again to this site in near future, many thanks for wonderful weekend stay, the weather was gorgeous and the coastal walk was amazing into town

I really wasn't sure at all about camping in our tent after I read the reviews on the sites at South Shields however, it wasn't a problem.
We arrived for an overnight stay at this beautiful (under visited) part of the country and saw the signs for Lizard Lane camp site. We decided to check it out at about 5.30pm. It is mainly a static caravan site where people live but there is a small area of grass right in the middle for campers in tents.
The warden said we could stay for £16 (one tent - 2 adults and 2 children). We had to pay £5 deposit for each key card - 1 female, 1 male for access to the toilets and shower block - which are modern and clean.
The patch of grass where we pitched was right opposite the toilet block - so very handy. There was only one other small tent and we had a very quiet night - no noise except from some seagulls. I would recommend it for the lovely views of the sea, the cleanliness of the modern shower block and value for money.

The site is in an ideal situation for plenty of local entertainment and just a few hundred yards from the sea. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
The site is still under construction. The site is too compact with narrow roads within the site in which to manoeuvre anything longer than a standard saloon car and you have trouble with getting a 'swing' when trying to reverse onto pitch. You have to unhitch and push the caravan manually.
There are no proper means of disposing of waste water. The disabled toilet cannot be used for a shower because there is no internal lock on the door, so anyone with a keycard can enter.
The toilets whilst clean and modern are inadequate for the site size, being only three wc's in the gents. When asked about the lack of toilet brushes, I was told they could not have them for health and safety reasons.
When entering the gate beware of the potholes.
An excellent nice quiet site when owned by the council has now been developed into an overcrowded site.

Just a quick review. Really enjoyed my stay here, lots to do in the area good beaches and views a fantastic view from the caravan park overlooking the sea. Shower block and toilets were clean and tidy, Warden was very very helpful, the site is under development but they made sure that we were out of the way of any work that was undergoing,The area has got lots of places to see, south shields fair ground, marine park lake, the piers is a lovely mile walk out to sea, the coast is wonderful. Will be staying again next year. Love the place and love the people.

We arrived late for a overnight stay on a cycle tour & had exclusive use of a small compact tent field next to a clean & warm modern toilet/shower block, site enjoys nice sea views overlooking the beautiful beach. The warden was very welcoming and came over for a friendly chat & to collect the very reasonable £5 for a nights stay.
Site is quite compact really so may not suit everyone, but cheap and cheerful & ideal for that pit-stop near a lively holiday resort with plenty of entertainment to hand.

Facilities - Good shower/toilet block and laundry room; no other facilities on site.
Shops - wide selection within two miles.
Pubs and entertainments - various within two miles.
Actual experience - two weeks of hell – the site is still mainly a building site, work being continued on an ever-expanding area. The hotel that owns the site consistently overbook, so that on our arrival, we found that vans were being pitched as close as six feet apart all round! The “warden” – who states himself is not employed by the hotel – he 'just helps out' - was at the stage of threatening to direct any more arrivals to go and camp in the hotel grounds.
Due to expanding work, we were moved twice during our stay (three different pitches in total), diggers and road rollers working daily as close as ten feet, ground where work had yet to be done (i.E. “available” pitches) was rutted and scarred from movement of the machinery. Rules state “no open fires”, but workmen daily burned scrap timber and rubbish on open bonfires just feet from vans, and work noise, fumes and smoke were a daily occurrence. From reviews here and comments of those with residential pitches, this work has been in progress from at least 12 months – I visited last September and assumed (wrongly!) that work would be complete, but it now appears as though the intention is to convert the whole site to a static/residential site only, and dispense with visiting tourers completely.
On booking in mid-February, the hotel failed to give any warning whatsoever that the site would still be unfinished. The cost (almost £300) can only be considered extortionate given the conditions, the degree of overbooking and crowding, and the fact that this was still not school holiday time (the normal peak), especially when a couple of websites are still quoting their prices as only £13 - £16.50 per night.
We prefer quieter sites where it is possible to spend a fair portion of the holiday actually on site, just relaxing in or outside the van - this was utterly impossible. I would urge anyone thinking of using this site to visit or phone the site if possible before actually booking and obtain written confirmation of what conditions may be expected on arrival - other visitors who complained at the hotel received no satisfaction whatsoever.

This site is under going a complete change. The toilet shower block is very nice and clean good hot showers, there are some touring caravans which are permanent on this site and mostly new statics.
The site is sloping not terraced when the site is finished this might change. There are good sea views the beach & sea walks on the grass or path ways are close. The bus service which runs into South Shields & Seaburn from outside the site.

We stayed at this site for the weekend. I agree with a lot of the comments in the fact that it was more like a building site with a large skip and mounds of rubble dotted around.
The site itself was just across the road from the beach which was lovely. There is also a park a mile or so away with a lake and a little train that goes around it.
I did feel slightly on edge and didn't feel safe leaving any valuables in the tent. It didn't have a 'holiday' camp site feel to it.
It was basic with only one washing up sink (no plug!).
I also have to agree with the comment about the expensive nightly charge. When we booked we weren't told about the building work and I think that the nightly charge should therefore have been reduced. It is a lot of money for a basic site.
On the plus side, the warden (when you could find him) was friendly.
I think we would book again but only for the weekend. This is purely due to the fact that there isn't any other campsites in the area.

What a shame this is the only site in the area because I was forced to use it when visiting family in the area.
Overcrowding does not describe the crammed in like sardines approach the site uses. When it came to leaving we had to ask another camper to remove their tent to allow us to move the caravan.
We were placed on the grass in front of a seasonal tourer, when the owners arrived they could not access their van. I have serious concerns about what would happen if their was a fire.
