No friendly greeting. Refused to put us in field claiming water logged (others were on the field), put us in hard standing area, what a tip! Units far too close together, junk and litter, hook up failed within 2 hrs, all the site electrics are a complete bodge/bad diy affair and to be frank dangerous, I am an electrical engineer, I've seen some bodgery in my time, but this place is ridiculous! Poo will hit the fan on our return home as the appropriate bodies WILL be informed with photographic evidence.
The fully stocked shop is a joke unless you require chocolate or cooking oil.
The hard standing backs onto the A57, very noisy.
Staff did not know of a grey waste point, instead told me to put it in the elsan point, then left me (I'm disabled) to lift a full waste hog a foot up onto the elsan point in order to empty it, (felt like letting it go in the car park).
Facilities not well maintained (dated).
The website is no reflection on reality, we gave it a chance despite reviews, wish we hadn't.

After reading the previous bad reviews we were worried. But the site was well located for our planed visits to friends in the area so we decided to take a chance.
Some things we didn't know (from previous reviews) before we stayed at Hollybank ;
1, Arriving after a 6 hour drive it was a big relief to see that the site was immaculately groomed and clean, in fact we were stunned. Also the staff that greeted us were very modest friendly and helpful.
2, We had a choice of area to pitch in; (A) either in the fields where there is a more family vibe - but a locked height restricted barrier (to protect the caravans)for getting in and out, this meant we would have to disturb someone to unlock the barrier every time we went in and out with our campervan. Still the warden was more than happy to do this for us offering his mobile number. Or (B) in the easy access area which has more of a workers vibe but still very quiet. We opted for this one and found this area very peaceful indeed, people there were modestly friendly, it was just right for us.
3 The wardens and staff work very hard and clearly take pride in the place, the bathrooms were very clean to and almost obsessive level.
4 From my phone calls to the site prior to arriving its clear that they are not great on the phone, we were not 100% sure that our booking was confirmed and one person said when I called to check 'if you booked then it'll be fine. ' She was absolutely right, it was ! I think they are just a bit old fashioned, but we had a very nice stay indeed, and would stay again without hesitation.

We found this site through the C and C Club guide book and thought that if it was in there, it would be fine. We only stayed one night and that was enough. We were placed amongst caravans as we asked for EHU in what looked like a refugee camp but was probably a site used by migrant workers. It made us uncomfortable. The toilet and shower block were dated and not very clean.
In the morning, I walked round the whole site and was surprised to find at the far end, a spacious, well maintained field with quite a few families in tents; more like a proper campsite.
On the positive side - handy for both the M6 and M56 (only 5 minutes away), Manc Airport and the city.
On the minus side - you decide from all these reviews. Reading the positive ones, I don't remember it being as good as they say

We had our new caravan put into the secure storage at Holly Bank, then on our return we had it put on a pitch.
We were a little worried about the past reviews, but we found the staff at Holly Bank are very helpful and couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy on our pitch.
The toilets/showers are heated in the winter, they are very clean and the water is hot.
The whole site is well looked after and the staff take great pride in keeping it looking first class.
There are workers on site and these people are mostly in bed by 10pm, but when you do see them they are polite + friendly.
We would definitely say that the site is secure, clean, well kept and above all the staff are very helpful.
We look forward to many more happy times on this site.

Was concerned about using this site because of the previous bad reviews. This site was well placed for the area of Manchester I was visiting. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Shown to pitch & amenities pointed out on arrival. The showers & toilets were clean. I am glad I booked this site & will definitely use it again.

We had seen poor reviews so we actually tried to book any other site but they were all booked up. On reflection we are very glad we didn't. The positives: The site was a good size and very clean, well maintained, grass cut short and neat. Both gents and ladies showers were lovey and warm, the shower cubicles were very clean. As was the floors, sinks etc. Toilets too. The shop seemed to stock enough of the basics although it wasn't open but being very close to supermarkets and a modern large excellent shopping precinct (not that you would know it as it feels miles from anywhere urban) the provisions really didn't matter.
The games room was basic, pool/snooker, darts. We really didn't pay much attention to the rest, sorry. There is an area for hand washing clothes and a separate one for dishes as well as washing machines/ironing facilities. There is a small children's play area but plenty of space for little ones to run around playing football etc without harassing the other campers.
The negatives: The Motorway can be heard in the distance, although it can from most places nowadays. This did not impact upon us at all. Nor did it impact sleeping.
The second negative was that as we are not that far from the airport, planes fly over. They are not that low, but a fraction lower than most places. They didn't affect us and after a short while we were oblivious to both the cars and the planes. I doubt that these two things had any impact upon anyone as people seemed to be regulars. The site was clean, well kept, quiet and people were friendly. You can also rent basics tatic-tourers from here if you don't fancy taking a tent. Although the ones by the toilets could have done with sprucing up a bit. We really found it a relaxing break. Cost us £9 for my wife and the same for me. Our children were free.
We would go back and that says it all for us. Have a look at Google Maps and you can see it clearly and the surrounding area, which is quite rural. I would really recommend making the 5 minute drive and going left out of the site entrance and over the little toll bridge (25p for the day) then at the bottom of the road go right and go for a meal at 'The Green Dragon' on the right, and it is lovely. There is also an exclusive 5 star restaurant across the road called 'La Boheme' (park behind it-website worth a look. Also prebook this place as we didn't and couldn't get in by just turning up. We do adore the Michelin starred 'Church Green Restaurant'(with celeb' chef but not celeb prices) that is located just next to Lymm Dam/woodland walk (called the Bongs. )
Lymm Village is cobbled and pretty, it has a canal running through it. They have local markets on Thursdays, 10am-4pm. So yes we will be going back as this campsite/caravan park is not only a nice place but very close to one of the most pretty villages in Cheshire.

Only returned to this local site as the website indicated 'under new management', and we needed to test out some things on the caravan. But nothing much has changed. The hookup is only 10 amps and many (most?) still do not work and repeatedly trip. We couldn't even get the lights to stay on. Staff try their best to find working ones not already in use but we have had the same problem on every visit. Vans on the hard standing are far too close together, we wouldn't have been able to put our awning up. I think this site is still used largely by workers. Would recommend only if you don't need hookup, you have your own toilet and shower and you are using the site only as a place to sleep. Shame, as the location is handy and the staff are lovely.

This is our local camp site for trying out new gear or simply just sneaking off overnight for a chill out! It has benefited from new management and we would definitely recommend it. It's tucked in on the left at the foot of Warburton Toll Bridge.
A great site to stop off and recharge your batteries as well if you're on a long drive. Nice pub locally (Green Dragon in Lymm) and there's a superstore a short way down the road to replenish supplies.

I booked this site for a one night stopover on the basis of the positive reviews. Reading these reviews again makes me wonder whether we're talking about the same site.
It was really grim and probably the worst camping experience I have ever had. As far as we could gather this site seems to mainly provide temporary housing for workers and a storage compound for caravans - it didn't really feel like a 'proper' campsite.
I booked online and had to e-mail the campsite to ask for confirmation since this wasn't provided automatically. We arrived at 9pm to locked gates (no mention of this in the confirmation e-mail). Had to phone the site and someone (not even sure he worked there) let us in. He thought we 'might' be able to find somewhere on the grass but if not, we could park our camper van on the concrete standing beside the wash block.
Given that much of the grassy areas were really wet and either blocked off by cars and ropes, we didn't really have any other option than to camp near the entrance.
The toilets were really dirty, no soap and no evidence they had been cleaned in a while.
The site is right next to a busy road with industrial estates nearby; noisy traffic passed by all night.
£30 for a parking space. As my son pointed out, we would have had a better experience in the nearby Tesco car park. What a joke !

Planned to stay at this campsite for 1 night but liked it so much we stayed 2!
We arrived later than we anticipated and found them to be welcoming, helpful and very friendly.
We paid £42 for 2 nights 3 adults with electric which I think is very reasonable.
Lovely clean and quiet campsite with good on site facilities. Shop, laundry room, play area & games room. Shower/toilet block was very clean and warm with free use of a hairdryer!
Although it rained for our entire stay it didn't dampen our spirits and we had a great time. In fact it was a great way to test our new tent for leaks (it passed!). Would highly recommend Holly Bank Caravan Park and will definitely be returning and hopefully bring the sun with us next time!
