This is probably one of, if not the best site we've stayed on. The pitches are massive and extremely well kept. TV signal is surprisingly good for such a remote area and the site clean, tidy and relaxed.
We had amazing weather when we were there, and the site is next to a 3 mile approx.
Public Walking Trail which was beautiful. Fresh water, chemical disposal, a shop, a play park (which was quite busy), spotlessly clean showers and toilets, and a spa and gym facility (which we never used) are all on site.
Staff are super helpful and lots of local information is provided at reception. About a 40 minute very scenic walk away is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway which is an old steam train that runs to Lakeside.
From Lakeside, you can get a boat to Bowness-on-Windermere, the main town on Lake Windermere.
The site is also a short walk from the village of Bouth, where there's a pub.
Overall, this is, in my opinion, the best campsite for visiting Lake Windermere.

Just returned from a three night stay in lovely surroundings at Black Beck. As it was over the Bank Holiday weekend the touring area was full, and consequently each pitch only had enough room for a caravan, awning and car. Never the less, it made for a lovely atmosphere, exchanging pleasantries with neighbours etc. In fact we learned from some of them, who had been speaking to the staff, that the touring area had suffered from some flooding in the past and they were planning to level off the touring area from the road and reduce the number of pitches that could possibly be hard standing for next season.
Next to the touring pitches is a pan washing area and Elson point. The nearest toilets are about 50 yards away but they were cleaned at least twice a day and were spotless, with another toilet block around 100 yards away near the static touring pitches that were also cleaned twice daily.
There is also a shop that opens in the mornings only and the site provides some sort of entertainment on Bank Holiday weekends but no bar or club on site. Black Beck is a good base for Cartmel races which is just four miles away and Windermere is just a 20 minute drive from the site.
It is also a good base for walkers with specific walks from the site and the nearest pub, The White Hart, is a 20 minute walk away that provides excellent bar meals and Real Ales. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning to Black Beck!

Set in woodland with beautiful views of the surrounding fields, this is a large site with a mix of both static and tourers although it doesn't feel it because of the layout. There are 3 areas for tourers, we were staying on area 1 which was grass however if you prefer hardstanding the other 2 areas looked like gravel.
There was more room for the children to play and cycle where we were. I do agree with comments about the pitches being quite close together, we were fortunate not to have any neighbours awning side.
We also had friends who hired a static here it was lovely, all your home comforts, very spacious and like new, would recommend if you you don't have your own van.
A great play area on site with equipment for both younger and older children, and a pond where you can go and feed the ducks.
The shop wasn't that good and was only open until 12, we didn't use it much.
Due to the nature of this beautiful setting ie. trees and hills, there is very poor phone coverage and we couldn't get any BBC channels. Although this didn't bother us.
We felt this site was quite central for what we wanted to do with a young family. Ten minutes away from Fell Foot Park, Haverthwaite Steam Railway and the Motor Museum. And just a short car journey to both Grange Over Sands and Bowness.
Would definitely stay here again

Good site, would recommend. We enjoyed our stay there very much.
Plus points: Price (low season) was £13.50 per night for 2 adults with caravan on a serviced pitch (awnings extra at around £2/£3 per night). Free hot showers. Nice, clean, heated toilet/shower block. Hookups inc TV aerial and water. Level pitches. Sheltered site set in woodlands. Easy access with caravan. Roughly 7 miles from main town of Ulverston (for shops and supplies) and the about the same distance to Coniston (for beautiful scenery/walks etc).
Minus points: The pitches do appear rather close together so wouldn't stay here in the busy season, as we like to have plenty of room between ourselves and our neighbours. They could also get quite water-logged if there has been plenty of rainfall I would recon. The site is on the southern-most border of the National Park which does mean that to see the best and most popular parts of The Lakes always involves a bit of a drive, but I suppose that's often inevitable. The only other point of note was the duck that drove my boyfriend 'qwackers' in the early hours one night! ha-ha!
As our stay was in the low season it meant that we got to have the whole site virtually to ourselves (bar one other couple with their caravan) and got a hardstanding pitch - of which there appear to be about 3.
The touring site is part of a Caravan Park with statics, so with us staying 'out of season' meant it was reassuring that there was still a bit of life going on around us, albeit that the touring site was all our own (almost) for the period of our stay.

We stayed for one night with our new caravan-well new to us!
This is a great site.
We were given a pitch with lots of space handy for pot wash but a bit further for loo's/showers.
There is a well stocked shop on site and spa/sauna/gym.
The site is huge but very nicely laid out and it was very quiet at night.
Reception staff were very helpful and allowed us to keep our caravan at the pitch till 3pm.
The playground had a wooden obstacle course layout and also stuff suitable for smaller children.
We visited Windermere/Bowness which is about 1/2 hour away and Grizedale Forest which is abut 1/2 hour in opp direction.Grizedale, great for walks and a superb play area for children.
Will probably visit again.

We've enjoyed several visits to this site over the past few years, the low season pitch prices are excellent value for money. The toilet block is always very clean and the showers are free. The pitches are serviced so plenty of hook ups and water taps. The area is lovely and there's a great Booths 10 minutes drive down the road for shopping. It's also an ideal base for Grizedale forest.
The site is massive but very quiet and the staff are friendly. The playground for the kids is very good and if you look hard enough you'll find the duck pond.
I agree with other comments on here, I personally wouldn't like to stay high season as the pitches are too close. Bearing in mind it is mainly a static site I think the owners could afford to lose a couple of pitches in the touring area to increase space.
The other negative is although they have built a new chemical disposal point, the sinks are right next to them and out of courtesy I don't like emptying the loo when somebody is doing their washing up! The washing up area should really have been separate and I don't know what they were thinking when they designed it.
Minor issues compared to the good points and a site we'll be spending plenty more time at.

I have stayed at this site on numerous occasions and recommended it to others but I stopped going in the height of the season because they put the pitches close together so will only use the site out of main season now
Noticed a number of comments re the local pub the white Hart - it is definitely not 5 mins walk away. There is a great walk that is a short cut (up he hill left passed reception) and then turn left at the end follow road to top of hill bear right and take next left down into village, anyone that can do this in 5 minutes should have entered for the Olympics (more like 25 mins) but worth the walk very popular place need to book for meals

A lovely location, with mature grounds and facilities. We were welcomed on site by the warden on one of his regular patrols, he helpfully advised us how to park up on the tight pitch. The touring area was very compact and well sheltered by surrounding hedges and trees.
The surrounding area has some great short walks suitable for all, with an excellent pub at Bouth. The live steam line is well worth a visit round the corner at Haverthwaite.
The toilets on site were always clean, although only one washbasin meant that shaving at the mirror precludes others from washing hands after visiting one of the two toilets. The showers were good and hot, although one of the ladies shower cubicles had a broken temperature adjustment handle.
The on site shop was useful for eggs and milk, but surprisingly did not stock postage stamps.
The washing up facilities had intermittent cold and tepid water. These sinks were uncomfortably close to the waste disposal drains, being under a common hut roof. I made the mistake of washing up when someone was emptying their waste in the next stall: an unpleasant experience.
The pitches were each equipped with power, water and TV point, but were very closely spaced. Camped up cheek by jowl with tightly packed tourers was claustrophobic, but the crush was perhaps understandable being August Bank Holiday.
This was the issue which was my lasting impression of the site. I did feel that the available space was being micro-managed in a way which was at odds with the relaxed break for which we had hoped.
Beware seasonal biting insects due to standing water in the adjacent field, come prepared with insect repellent!

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at Black Beck. Very clean campsite, although the pitches are on the small side and the site was full, we managed to park with an awning & 4x4 but with little room between.
The toilet block was extremely clean. A mop & bucket is provided for you to use after using the shower, which everyone did. There are two shower / toilet blocks although the second one is located in the middle of the static area. Each block has two showers and toilets. Even though the site was full, I never saw the blocks full. Be aware they are a good five minute walk from the main tourer site so you need to leave plenty of time, especially with desperate kids!
The washing up/waste disposal area was very clean.
The onsite shop was small but stocked everything you could need, it opens from 9-12 every day.
My boys (13/11/11/5) loved the play area. It kept them amused for a good few hours.
The site is extremely picturesque, nestled among trees (which again provided hours of amusement for the boys). It is about 10 minutes from Lake Windermere where you can spend a full day easily.
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
Now the all important question - would we go again - definitely!

We stayed here for the first May bank holiday, it was our fourth visit. The pitches are a little close together and can be a bit tight getting into, especially with a larger van. Other than that it's a nice site, clean, quiet and the staff have always been pleasant and helpful with us.
Close to the south lakes railway, lakeside etc. The south lakes wildlife park is about half an hours run and is a very good day out for kids.
The site has no real entertainment facilities but they do run 'theme' nights/days in peak season. The last we went to was a country and western night which was a laugh.
The problem with the waste/toilet disposal has been sorted, it's no longer an old toilet but is purpose built and at ground level, although personally I thought it was a bit close to the washing up sinks.
