In 35+ years camping under canvas & in caravans, this is the noisiest site we've even been on.

Black Beck have a noise policy of up to 11. 30pm and it appears people can make as much noise as they wish up to this time.

Definitely wont be returning here. Think very carefully before you book a pitch at this site.

Grandparents with 2 grandchildren. Daughter and other 3 grandchildren on the neighbouring pitch. Kids are 4 - 13 yrs. They enjoyed the freedom of riding around on bikes once warned of one way system. Not possible to see play area from the first area of Van's - Bluebell I think it was called.

Nice site but be warned the speed bumps on the one way road system will crucify your caravan. Speed SHOULD be 5 or 10mph (cant remember) but anything over 2mph will shake your van to pieces. These are just a bit excessive. Members of staff seemed to ignore the speed limits so just take care.

A steep hill near the exit road had a careful of youngsters careering down to join the exit road we were on. They didn't seem to give a stuff for us & cut out in front of us with no notice.

Nice site, good location although a little remote - entry lanes are a bit scary with 2 way traffic. Plenty to do nearby. Try the Railway & go to Fell Foot NT Park. Swimming pool with a great wave machine in Ulverston.

Pitch reasonable size fully serviced but barely enough grass to put up a picnic table at the back of your pitch! We sat on the gravel area to the front as 4 adults with 5 kids in & out is no good on a 6ft sq grass area which was very boggy when we were there.

Camp washup area is good and waste disposal area standard.

A laundry on site useful for wet towels if you have 3 days constant rain.

Lovely free (constantly push button) showers (just 2 for ladies) - think the same for men. The temperature of water is not adjustable & was a bit too hot for me & would be for small kids. They look as if recently revamped with all slate type modern floor & wall tiles.

Hang everything in a plastic bag on back of door as it all gets wet! Improvement of a shelf to stand products on & small mirror is needed. Easy flap down seat in the "dry" area of cubicle. I took a kitchen padded draining mat in to stand on after showering as your trousers will get wet bottoms if you don't!

3 loos for ladies, but these are not checked often enough for soiled pans although the general area was very clean. Over 3 days of my 4 day visit there was just 1 toilet that wasn't soiled. Probably kids sent over for No 2 but kids don't clean the pan after!

One fixed hair dryer, large wall of mirrors & basins + electronic hand dryer completes the facilities.

The shop is only open until 12 midday, but the offer to open the shop for essentials on our arrival day at 1. 00 pm was useful but we were prepared. It didn't seem to stock meat or fresh veges, plenty of sweets, crisps and bottled drinks. Newspapers, bread & milk, wine available.

Staff didn't seem to be particularly helpful although our booking was made easily enough. Think they put much more emphasis on the very many fixed mobile homes. Even a couple for sale but site fees are extortionate considering minimal facilities. There is a very small "gym" area & a jacuzzi that can be booked.

Seems a nice site, we have been around the same period for the past 4 years.

Management changes have happened since our last visit and it seems that the attentiveness has slipped a bit with ablutions.

There is only a small shop on site even though is could be seen as remote and it has limited good and only open from 9 to 12.

Seems more interest in the static than tourers.

Looks nice, shame about the atmosphere.

Our family has been visiting Black Beck caravan park for many years.

It always had a wonderful relaxed family friendly atmosphere.

Recent management changes seem to have brought about a few nice upgrades such as in the shop (no sign of upgrading the grotty shower and toilet behind the shops though) and the park is looking nice, however, it all seems to be happening at the expense of the old atmosphere.

These days its all about rules and fleecing more money out of visitors, which does explain the parks nice new 4x4 vehicle and luxury cars in the driveway.

The general staff try hard but every decision has to be referred to the management who has a different agenda to most of the customers.

Lots of the old beautiful hedgerows have been cut down which restricts privacy, caravans are now being shoehorned into spots that were never felt suitable before.

While we applaud any effort to make the park look better it does seem a shame to ruin the atmosphere, which for us was the main reason for returning to the park in the first place.

Hi, as a family we have been going to this site every couple of years for about the last 20.

My wife's family used to own a static on site so she virtually grew up there.

This is a large site made up mostly of static vans with I believe two fields of seasonal pitched touring vans and one large field of normal caravanners / motorhomes

However, I have to say my latest visit will be my last.

The site itself is quiet secluded (why we liked it)

The nearest pub is one mile away and you need the car to go anywhere. But is good as a base.

However I have got to say they have now revamped the main touring field. Yes it is now all fully serviced pitches and hard standing but the site has now lost all its character and openness feeling.

The pitches are now all divided into set areas an area for van, area for awning and a separate area for car. (All Gravel) which leaves you approx an area about 8ft square of grass to sit out on.

You feel very hemmed in - with the only thing in mind it seams is to cram in as many caravans into the space as they can purely to make profit.

The central area where the kids used to run around has all been changed to gravel pitches, which although there is a playground its a 5 min walk away and in a totally separate section from the touring field, this separation and layout of gravel now makes it NOT a kid or child friendly site. (perhaps that's the way they want it)

I do realise it was a bank holiday but when I approached the staff with a query they where very abrupt, walkie talkie communication is the order of the day, between them which is nice until you over hear remarks about another camper coming from the speaker of the machine.

To stay late you are charged if there is availability but only on condition you unplug the electric. (why when I have paid??)

Rules and regulations seem to have taken over added to the tight spacing to fit as many vans in as possible means I can now only down grade the site in my once very high standings.

Yes by all means go if you like a regimented routine but to me this is not what caravanning is about and I believe this site has unfortunately lost its way.

I do realise this is rather negative, but changes should be made to enhance a site experience, not to destroy what was once a great site.

This site is quite a walk from anywhere and when you come off the main road you have to drive along a one way road that requires strict negotiation. The surrounding area looks lovely and in the summer it must be pretty amazing.

We arrived around 5 on Easter Monday, first impressions, very good. I had booked two pitches for myself and family. Thankfully it was quiet when we arrived, the pitches face each other and I had to go onto the other pitch to reverse in, it would have been very difficult to get onto your pitch otherwise.

All pitches were fully serviced which was good, The toilets where ok but the showers were not the best.

The chemical waste leaves a lot to be desired, very dirty and although this may be down to other caravanners it didn't look like it was cleaned regularly by the park.

The pitches do look as if they have had a lot of money spent on them but the niggles put me off the site, at £ 25 per night they should be better.

Due to another one way road you must drive all around the statics to exit the site.

I wouldn't make a return visit to this site.

We stayed (2 adults, 2 kids) over Easter and generally a good site, lovely views a little bit in the middle of no where and a good 20-25mins drive to Bouth.

Site very clean, (apart from the chemical waste disposal which was truly hideous, not the parks fault but other campers, faeces left on the side which I had to wash down on 3 occasions!) showers were poor, close to the shop only 2 for men hot water went quickly and both shower heads broken! Needs improvement.

Staff were lovely, friendly & helpful.

Location is brilliant for exploring the lakes, would I go again, Yes but would want the showers fixed and some polite notices put up about other campers respecting other campers with chemical waste disposal.

Just had a long weekend at this site (friday til monday) and I have to say it is a really lovely site. We arrived late on friday so reception had closed, we had to ring the warden to get our pitch number, he even asked if we needed any help setting up! (which we didn't but still was nice to be asked).

We have a shower in our van so I can't really comment on the showers but the block itself along with the toilets was clean and tidy. The pitch we had was right by the toilet block and shop but it is a big site and was glad we wasn't to far away as I don't walk very well and don't think I could have managed the walk from the other side.

Just down the road was a farm that sold fresh eggs and potatoes and you just left your money in a honesty box! its the first time I've ever seen 1 of these and must say it was a nice feeling knowing that your being trusted, (sounds strange but in towns and cities now if its not bolted down it gets taken!)

All in all will definitely be visiting the site again.

Our first caravan outing of the year was tarnished by weather

The site itself is nice, but has 2 separate tourer areas. 1 is near the site entrance with wash-up and chem disposal. The other is a few minutes walk and is near the kids playground which is one of the best weve seen in our limited caravan career.

The shower facilities are small and there are few cubicles which could cause problems in high season. Water is hot constantly but water flow hit and miss. I am told the ladies showers were awful as water was dribbling out.

We would have reported this fact except the warden upset us, at one point poking me in the chest because I inadvertently drove 15 metres down a one way (you have to circuit the whole park virtually to exit the first tourer pitch)

The local area is ok and the site itself is very quiet and very well kept. Its obvious some money has been spent, the attention to detail is excellent. Would we go again, no, solely due to one staff member.

Stayed here over the Easter holidays and was very impressed by the site. The touring area has been completely redeveloped and has large, flat, areas for cars, awning and caravan.

The site itself is very peaceful and has clean, excellent facilities. In a lovely area for visiting the southern lakes and walking. Quiet site, very peaceful. Nice children's park and no club house or pub.

Previous reviews said the shop was only open in the mornings, this was not always the case as on weekends it seemed to be open for longer.

The only minus point was that there are only 2 toilets and 2 showers in the touring section which can mean queueing.
