This is a lovely site a few minutes drive from the southern tip of lake windemere. The site has a sauna and jacuzzi, shop and massive play park for the kids. The site is surrounded by farmland and woodland and is ideal for walks. The staff are very friendly and should there be nobody booked into your pitch the day you leave, you can request to stay til 2-3pm so you have an extra half day for free, they are very accommodating. The touring pitches are fully serviced, but I felt that the pitches were rather close together, should you require your awning, there is little room to put your car. Nearby there is the village of Bouth which has a great pub, The White Hart which has ample parking, outside tables and they serve fantastic food. Its well worth noting that this pub has been smoke free since August 2004. My only gripe about the touring section is the water disposal, you have to empty both toilet and waste water into a toilet. Bear in mind that a full waste-master is very heavy, you have to lift this to the rim of the toilet and then when you unscrew the cap you get your hands covered in the waste water which isn't very hygienic. If I was to mark the site out of 10, I would give it a 7 due to the waste disposal and small pitches.

Whilst I found this site to be quite spacious especially where the static caravans were, I was quite disappointed when arriving with our touring caravan to find that we were all on top of one another. By the time we put our awning up there was nowhere to put our car, which we had to leave half on the grass and half on the road which was quite inconvenient. Talking to other caravan users we found that they weren't too happy either. Whether it had anything to do with cartmel races I don't know.
In general the children had a great time at the park, though the area for playing football was quite boggy. The showers on site were very clean and free. Also the shop was adequately stocked - have to pre-order your papers if you want one.

I have been visiting Black Beck for getting on for 15 years, since my Grandparents bought a caravan and put it on the site. Over that time I have seen the site change from one that catered for anyone from your middle-aged couple who visit every weekend, to the rough and ready bikers in their leaking tents, to one that has turned its nose up to those who can't afford a permanent pitch with a centrally heated caravan. The site is always maintained to a high standard, and is very clean, and the facilities, whilst basic, are sufficient.

May 2004 Site no longer accepts tents which was a great disappointment to myself and my children as we had spent meny years visiting, seeing the changes both good and bad in the last twenty years. Maybe the management will review its decision, if not the blackbeck farm at the top of the hill is most welcoming, basic but the views are fantastic. pub next to village green, with slides, swings etc, in only a few mins walk away

Often - 1996 to present The site is in a lovely woodland setting and there are plenty of places to eat out within a 5 minute drive.
The showers and toilets are clean and well maintained and the site as a whole is maintained to a high standard.
The beck runs through the site, and there are lots of nice walks by the river and in the woods. It is close to the town of Ulverston and is handy for Wimdermere and Coniston but you're out of the busy area.
In all, I would highly recommend this site.

Went here in March 1997. Cost 6.50 per night for 2 man tent.
Tents were located at the very far end of this large site and were next to the childrens play area and dog toilet! The field/s were quite large but were boggy in the center after the rain so all campers were huddled round the edge.
There were plenty of toilet blocks which were clean and of a high standard. Also food preparation and dish cleaning areas. Site had its own shop but there was no pub close by (at least not that we could find).
