Just had a great weekend at Shall Hall with superb weather. Site mainly accommodates statics with one road for Touring which has around 36 pitches which was shared with a few tents. Very friendly and helpful staff and a great bar with reasonably priced drinks and food. Nice spot of fishing with the leeds / Liverpool canal running by. Nice showers/toilet block which were cleaned everyday. All pitches were fully serviced. The only one criticism would be the children's play area could do with a spruce up. But a nicely priced site ans will certainly be returning.

Stayed here at spring bank holiday, first impression was that the touring pitches were small, and the road between the two rows of tourers was so very narrow. This made for a very tight turn to get our caravan onto the pitch, on the up side all pitches are hard-standing with astro turf laid down where your awning will be, also water/waste, hookup and ariel are on every individual pitch. But for families there is no room for children to play near caravans.

There is a children s play area near the clubhouse which looks well equipped but it is some way away from the touring area, there is also a well kept bowling green here.

The toilet/shower block looks tired and in need of a deep clean, there are only three showers in the ladies and three in the gents. On the bank holiday Monday the toilet/shower block was very busy, and was not as clean as I would like, there was also a lack of toilet roll [the campers from the tent field also use this facility, the tent field doesn't have its own block]. Also doesn't have a dedicated wash up area so everyone uses sinks in launderette which never seemed to be cleaned, so had to clean a sink before we used.

I was looking forward to walking along the canal to the Heaton Bridge public house mentioned in a previous review but this is no longer possible. After you turn right along the canal, there is now a wooden fence coated with anti climb paint blocking your path as you reach the end of the sites land, such a shame. We where out and about a lot, back to site late, so didn't use club house.

Decided to leave two days early as we found site was too cramped, noisy and messy for us. Would not use this site again, its in a good area near to Southport Liverpool etc. , but with the close proximity of other units, narrow road the feeling of claustrophobia does not make for a relaxing stay. If you want a quiet, chilled, relaxing break I wouldn't recommend this site.

Just got back yesterday stayed 2 nights. Staff very friendly and helpful. Toilets and shower block clean, showers nice and hot only downfall is they could do with something to stand on when you come out of the shower the floor tiles were a little bit cold. Other than that very good will be going back again.

Have just returned from a long weekend at Shaw hall. We stayed here twice last year and since then the site has come under new ownership. It is a nice site and very handy for a weekend away. The site backs onto the Leeds Liverpool canal so good for a bit of fishing, and a short stroll up the canal takes you to the heatons Bridge pub which does decent food. There is also a bar on site with a nice beer garden, and entertainment/karaoke.

If I have any criticism of the site it is the toilet and shower facilities. The water from one shower came out as a dribble presumably because all the showers were in use, and also only 4 showers in the mens block between 38 pitches and the same amount of toilets.

This wasn't a problem last year when campers were not allowed, however the new owners have opened up a field to tents without putting any extra resources in for them. At one point there was no toilet roll, and the showers appear to be dirty as the campers are walking mud and grass into the shower cubicles.

In a nutshell the new owners are trying to maximise profits with minimal effort. As it was bank holiday weekend we were charged £35 a night, I expect better for this kind of money.

Booked at this site for the August bank holiday partly because the Kids fun fest was advertised on their webpage (still is) but apparently it had happened the week before. Small kids playground area was filthy. Litter everywhere and huge nettles under the slide. Supposed to be a play field but that is now full of tent campers so another inaccuracy. Entertainment dire. Real 70's working mens clubland bottom enders. Showers dribble water if more than 1 person using them. You pay a £20 deposit for a toilet key that you never need as it's always open. Static caravan owners walk their dogs down the touring section and think it's acceptable to let their dogs do their poos and then smile, pick it up and walk on whilst kids playing their. The owners should ensure all dogs are walked offsite or specific areas. Caravan spots are well provided for but it's like a storage unit with all tourers down either side of a narrow straight drive with little greenery. Locals encouraged to attend the bar and get pissed with little control given to those creating noise and brawling late on. Karaoke awful. The site is well overpriced especially if you've ever been to Plassey or Lady hayes.

Positives:- each pitch has most services. Shop nice. Outside bar sitting area nice. Canal walk OK. Southport nearby. All looks better when it's nice weather so this report is after one of the best weekends.

Just got back from our very first camping weekend. Just started to let tents on site, large sized field with gorgeous views. No showers or toilets on the field itself but showers and toilets just a stroll away. No electric hook up yet, but still a new thing for this site. Beautiful and clean site, and the staff were all amazing and so helpful. Great club house on site, well stocked shop, and fantastic reception. For the kiddies is a park where they can play safely and the children are welcome in the club house too. The cost of pitching a tent is we worth the money and a cost to hire a key to use the showers and toilets is refundable on departure. Also on site is a laundry and washing area where again it was spotless. I would definitely be going back as soon as I can. So glad we chose this as our first experience in camping. A massive thank you to all the staff for making our stay perfect

We've been going to this site for about 10 years in our folding camper and really enjoyed the entertainment, Friday and Saturday evenings in the Clubhouse, and sometimes also on a Sunday.

We are very disappointed that we haven't been advised that the new owners won't accept the 'Smileys' we had saved for a free 2 night stay. For each 2 night booking you made you got a free Smiley and when you had collected 4 you got a free 2 night stay, sort of loyalty bonus. However although we were given our Smiley at our visit at Easter 2013, when we returned in July we were told that the site was now under new management from March 8th 2013 (this date is prior to Easter) and the Smileys are no longer valid and we can't use the ones we've already saved. This really is poor customer service, surely the new Management could have advised their customers of this. Well the touring pitches were only 50% taken and this is the first time I have visited in July and they've not been full to capacity. Really for £25 per night it is no longer good value.

The staff are pleasant and helpful, the toilet block (although bit old) is kept clean. They have now started taking tents on the big field, which is good for people with tents as they've never done this before. This is about all I can say on a positive note. So we'll be looking elsewhere now for our girlie July weekend and our other camping breaks.

What a fantastic site, really good pitches, electric hookups, water and tv ariel all on one stand. Shower and toilet block was absolutely spotless and very warm and very clean.

The clubhouse is very nice and modern, very good entertainment. This site is in a really good location and right at the side of the Leeds Liverpool canal, which has some lovely places to stop off at for food and drink.

Only 10 minutes away from Ormskirk which has a lovely market twice a week. With lots of shops as well.

It was our first stay here and we will definitely be going back very very soon. Definitely recommend this site to anyone, with children or no children, all ages catered for here.

Its a beautiful site in a really nice area.

Cant wait to go back

Received a text from Shaw Hall 2 nights for the price of 1. Decided to book weekend with entertainment.

Snowed on the Friday so no entertainment. It was all ok Saturday (no snow and roads were clear) but again entertainment cancelled!

As other reviews, power tripped on touring site pitch, never had this before supposed to be 16amp.

Toilets exceptionally clean club house very quite, Saturday being the best with about 20 people in.

Think I will visit summer time only in future but will come back. Overall a pleasant friendly park with southport not far away

Just returned from a 4 night break after New year. The touring pitches were very quiet and there were only a handful of tourers on. We have stayed on this site previously and never had a problem with the electric, however, on this occasion the electric tripped at the slightest thing. We had to turn items off before using other items so the amperage must be very low. We didn't use fan heaters as additional heating as it wasn't even that cold during our stay! We turned the heating down to the lowest setting and went out for a few hours, on our return the electric had tripped and the heating had gone cold! This has put us off returning as weve never experienced this on a site before and it got really annoying! You could switch it back on at the bollard but its a pain!

We really like this site but wouldn't come at this time of year again as it was too quiet. The pitches are ideal as all service hardstanding on astro turf so no mud in your van. Small shop sells most provisons and newpapers each day. We walked along the canal turn right out of site and follow path to a great country pub which allows dogs, real fire roaring and its really friendly. Probably will return again as its local to us but I think we prefer to be a bit closer to Southport.
