We stayed at the site late September and arrived quite late in the evening. Initially we thought this is just a field we must be in the wrong place. So after driving to the farm house and booking in we were right it was just a field.
Now don't let the first paragraph put you off, once we settled in and found a bench to use as ours we realised how peaceful this place is.
This was a back to basics experience which was wonderful, but it has all you need, recycling, a toilet, a shower, an elsan (waste pipe with cap to unscrew), a tap at the entrance to the field for water and the ability to make your own campfire. ! This added to miles of wonderful walking ended a weekend we didn't want to leave.
The owners were very nice and extremely helpful especially the time of night we arrived. The only and only grip we had was the grass could have done with being cut.
PS, have a look by the bridge at the small stream, there lives the largest freshwater Crayfish we have ever seen. ! Our daughter was mesmerised.

Lovely, quiet, country side piece of heaven. My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights midweek and when we got there the field was empty so we could choose any camping spot we wanted. We got one on the other side of the field that had hedges and was a bit protected from the elements.
The little brook that was passing just behind the fence and the curious cows made the stay very fun as well as our dogs loved to run around, dig and explore the area. The most awesome thing was that we could make a fire. We brought some wood with us but we run out of it quick so we went into the forest to pick up some more.
It was very close and the forest was full of wood we could use. Also the owners were lovely and chatty. They offered us some of their wood which it was nice.
The toilet was very very clean and neat with the possibility to wash it yourself before use. The showers where nice. The area is lovely and actually we are going again tomorrow!

Small site on a delightful farm. We had the place to ourselves for a weekend in early April.
Beautifully clean and well equipped toilet, but only one, and toilet and shower are together so may need to queue when busy. A footpath through the site links to the Jack Mytton Way (bridlepath) and it is only 2 miles by path to Whilderhope Manor (National Trust and YHA) which is well worth a visit.
Would definitely visit again.

My husband and I stayed at this fabulous little campsite for 3 nights, 2 days during the week and had the place to ourselves.
The site is in a corner of a cultivated field on a working farm. There is a main-ish road at the other end of the field but it's too far away to hear really. A small stream runs along the other end.
There's a water tap and bins at the entrance to the field. There are a shower and toilet in a shed next to the farmhouse, both basic but pleasant enough, about a 5 minute walk from the farthest end of the site. There are also washing up facilities at the farmhouse although we didn't use them.
Campfires are allowed although we were asked to use the existing pits scorched by previous fires. There were a few and we pitched close to one, against the hedge, next to the gate to the adjoining field in which there was pile of tangled tree roots and branches, some of which we liberated for our fire (the farmer gave us permission to forage when we arrived).
We spent our first evening marvelling at the beautiful sunset. We could hear the distant rumble of farm machinery and cows lowing.
The next day we drove to Church Stretton (about 6 miles away), got some breakfast and then drove to Brown Clee Hill (about a 30 minute drive) which we walked up and then across to the Iron Age Fort.
The next day we went back to Church Stretton and on to Carding Mill Valley which has a choice of walks. We chose the one up the stream to the waterfall. There were, unfortunately, all the schools in Shropshire (so it seemed) there on geography field trips which slightly spoilt the peace and solitude we were hoping for. So we did the Long Mynde road (not for the faint-hearted on the ascent!) and although there was a Lands End to John O'Groats 600 strong cycle race doing the Long Mynde leg, we still managed to find some 'It's like nobody else has ever been here!' places in the vast expanse, with some of the most breath-taking views.
That evening we had a very pleasant meal at The Plough, just a mile or so from The Coates (on the Church Stretton road).
We left the following morning, promising ourselves that we'll return. We had wanted a quiet, unhassled, no frills camping experience and that's exactly what we got. And at £4 per night each and mostly self-catering, it was also inexpensive.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in July and arrived in very heavy rain. The owners were very helpful in offering to phone around other campsites as this one was soggy and then in taking the trouble to find us a place to pitch which was not too wet. They even showed us where the barn was into which we could retreat in the middle of the night should we need to! Luckily we didn't. They also offered us a supply of blankets and throughout the weekend, nothing was too much trouble.
The field is definitely peaceful being huge but with a limit on the numbers. The shower and toilet were clean and pleasant and we rarely had to wait despite there being only one. It is a bit of a walk from the field but a very pleasant one, looking onto the beautiful timbered farmhouse. One of the big bonuses was having a tennis court which the children loved.
The area is full of wonderful places to visit and I would certainly consider visiting this campsite again. Particularly recommended if you want peace and quiet and a campfire and friendly owners.

A very basic campsite - a farmer's field with a tap in it really. But what more do you need? You can wash up in the back kitchen of the farm house, and there is a shower and toilet. These are in an out-building of the farm and are kept clean with lots of hot water and there was always toilet paper.
You can have a camp fire - but bring your own wood - not much around.
There are 3 picnic tables in the field, which are easily moved close to your tent.
The field is rather muddy - I can imagine that it is pretty boggy after just a bit of rain. Also the grass was quite long when we were there - wellies were very useful.
We didn't try any walks from the campsite - none were obvious, but it is so close to Church Stretton, we had lots of walking to do - Cardingmill Valley is beautiful.
One wet day was spent at Mickey Millers Play Barn in Craven Arms - the children loved this, but be warned the parents pay too - they are also expected to play too.
No shops around - Church Stretton is the closest, also has a great chip shop. We got chips from here and ate them up in the hills - delicious!

This site is a little piece of heaven.
It is a very basic site, one shower, one toilet, but the setting is fantastic and the owners are incredibly friendly.
Campfires are allowed, which is always a bonus, and there is plenty of free wood in the surrounding woodland. You can pitch where you like in a large open field, which allows plenty of space for the kids to play without annoying the neighbours.
The only small change I would suggest is the toilet and the shower are in the same room, which means if someone is in the shower then its a long wait for the toilet. They are kept very clean though and hot water never ran out whilst we were there even though the five pitches were occupied. And we never queued for more than a few minutes.
I wish it was closer to home so we could visit more often

Lovely natural site.
Huge field with only 5 pitches and small stream running next to it.
Campfires are allowed, but unfortunately local garage sold us unseasoned wood which wouldn't burn :-(.
We had an amazingly peaceful time on a scorching (at times) bank holiday weekend and will definitely be back.
We had read that there was only one toilet and shower and thought that with only 5 pitches, this wouldn't present a problem.
What we didn't realise was that the toilet and shower were combined. Facilities were perfectly adequate - shower was great in fact. The set up did present a problem however in that the toilet was unusable by others when someone is showering. This did become a bit of a problem in the morning as one of the 5 pitches was occupied by a family group of about 20. If they beat us to the bathroom, you had to cross your legs for a long long long time!

This is what campsites should be about! As always, you never quite know what delights or horrors await when you finally reach your destination and start pitching your tent. But if a large open field away from main roads and next to a gently flowing stream are what ticks your boxes, then Coates Farm is a must!
On a typically wet English summer's weekend we used the site as a base to explore by bike what can only be described as breathtaking surroundings. Picturesque Church Stretton is a short ride away and a great place to stock up on picnic provisions (there's an award winning deli) before heading into the hills. There are plenty of nice pubs to warm your cockles afterwards too!
I can only echo previous reviews about the shower facilities at Coates Farm. Yes there is only 1, but quality more than makes up for quantity as you can enjoy a warm and powerful jet that many a hotel would be proud of!
To cap it all, campfires are allowed. The icing on the cake in my book and a sure fire way to capture the back to basics / back to nature adventure (power shower included) that camping can be. Highly recommended and we'll be returning.

Lovely quiet campsite with a real escape from it all feel. No road noise, just birds and a babbling brook that runs alongside camping field. Huge field for the kids to play in, and very quiet, amongst beautiful scenery. No electric hook ups, and no caravans as a result. (There was a separate site for caravans with electric hook ups further up the farm track lane - quite a way from this field).
Farmer and his wife are really friendly and helpful. There is a tennis court you can use next to the beautiful black and white timbered farmhouse. Lots of cows and dogs to amuse the kids. A big barn with a badminton court in for when the weather is poor. Just one shower/ toilet in same room, a bit of a trek from the camping field but perfectly adequate and shower was free. Lots of walks along old rail track and up into beautiful hills direct from campsite. Best of all the farmer allows campfires. There are plenty of places to go searching for wood, which the kids loved, and we had the best camp fire we have ever had in all our years camping. We saw the brightest biggest shooting star I have ever seen - just beautiful If you like quiet sites with no one else around, just nature then you'll like this site - it's idyllic.
No shops nearby, nearest pub was in Longville. The one in Rushbury/Wall under Heywood was for sale. Good children's playground in Wall under Heywood which you can get to on circular walk from campsite. Very close to Wenlock edge, so lots of walking.
Be careful, there is more than one Coates Farm on this road, and they both do camping, so don't get them mixed up!
