We have just returned from our second visit to Moat Farm and again had a wonderful stay on this well maintained site.
Again the site being operated by Peter and Jane has been improved with the addition of a hot water heater at the wash station for washing your dishes, the site also has WiFi so for those who find it hard to get away from work, facebook and the news can now keep up with everything via your laptop (small charge applies)
The nice level well maintained pitches are large and fantastic for tents as the ground is soft and stone free.
The site is situated in the countryside 5 miles north of Thetford and is close to Thetford Forest, Thetford has a 24 hour Tesco and an Aldi both are on the main road from the site into Thetford. Banham Zoo and Bressingham Gardens and Norwich are just over half an hour away and the Norfolk coast is an hour away.
Peter and Jane always make you feel welcome and are always willing to provide you will information and advise on the local area. As before the facilities are very clean
The site is in a quiet area and apart from a few members of the local wildlife and a few disrespectful campers this was a peaceful place to stay.
We do not recommend this site for anyone who needs to keep loads of kids busy in the evening, in fact I don't recommend it to anyone because I want it to stay nice and quiet for our next visit.

Stayed here for one night in a tent, mainly set up for Caravans but a nice pleasant site was very quiet as it was mid week.
Would definitely stay again, the shower was nice and large and water was hot.
Still cost a pound but that gave me 13 mins shower time.
Toilets nice and clean.
EHU is provided in the price which was handy to charge up my phone.
Close to all the main amenities.
Friendly owners, there is a £2.50 supplement for single people that I had to pay (Don't know why they have that for) but as EHU was in the price I did not mind.
Would stay there again as it quiet with nice surroundings.
Owners comments: The single person supplement is designed so we do not fill all our pitches up with just one person on the pitch, that would be financial suicide or prices would have to rise quite considerably, especially when we do not charge any extra for EHU. There is an option of a backpacker pitch but no EHU or single person supplement but that was not requested or discussed as I remember.

A very nice site prices are per person. Owners nice and helpful. There are buses a 1/2 mile away but only Monday to Friday there is free parking in Watton and frequent buses there to all parts of Norfolk. There is no grey water waste point but that is not a problem. It rained whilst we were there, our motorhome is heavy, I had no problem moving off the grass. The toilets are nice and clean, only one shower unisex

We speak as we find. A very quiet, pleasant site. All the facilities you would find down the road at the CCC site. Cost was more than the CCC site. £1 for a shower in an unheated cubicle, in October!
The charges set out are per person. We and others thought the stated charge was for the pitch. Read the smallprint.
Had to be towed off as the grass had not been cut
And it rained so wet grass + soft ground, not good for campervans.
Nice couple running the site, chatty and friendly.
The resident owl is vocal and the bird life various and plentiful.
Owners comments: We remember this visitor well, one night stay, pitch 9, flat and level pitch, spun the wheels so hard the driver dug the van in deep, I worked really hard to get the van out and then spent two hours repairing the damage done, grass had been cut a few days prior but as it was wet and rainy when they stayed cutting grass is not always possible or sensible, we do not mislead regarding prices as is suggested, we publish our prices very visibly on our web site, notice board and wherever else we can, price is based on per person not per pitch, plus to get a CCC site cheaper you need to be a member and not everyone is!!
The resident owl is a delight and we would rater see the owl return back to us than this couple who just like to find fault and show no gratitude for our hard work and efforts to provide a well maintained campsite where they can stay whilst many others are closed for the season, you can't please everyone.

Just spent along weekend at Moat Farm and it was delightful. Really quiet site with good services. Lovely place to spend a nice quiet relaxing time.
Owners great - had a problem with a broken switch on shower and within a couple of hours was all fixed and up and running again. Shower hot and lovely and clean.
Hot water for washing up should be a priority I understand it is on the cards!
The pitches are spacious with plenty of room between them and nice and flat. Despite wet weather pitch stood up well to it. Electric hookups included in nightly rate.
Not a lot within walking distance but plenty of country pubs with a short drive. Easy to get to local Norfolk towns
Will go back

We have just come back from a short 'tour of Norfolk' and spent one night at this lovely, rural camp site.
Moat Farm is in a very quiet location, next door to the owners home and smallholding. We found the owners really friendly and we chatted to them about smallholding, keeping chickens, growing veg, etc for ages!
It is quite a small site but on this Saturday night in mid-August it was full - units comprising tents, caravans and campervans. Pitches are a good size so the site didn't feel too crowded but you were very aware that you had neighbours - especially the many younger ones!
We only stayed for one night but had a pleasant stay and thought it an ideal spot for visiting Thetford forest and local nature reserves, etc. The site isn't in the forest but it's only a short drive or cycle ride away.
The toilet block and single shower (£1 for 12 mins) seemed adequate even though the site was full. The range of recycling bins was excellent but it would have been nice to have hot water for washing up.
Our pitch was very large, we had electric hook-up but we had to pay a supplement because we stayed for a single weekend night (£2.50) which seemed a little unnecessary to us - this pushed the cost to £16.50, which is a little on the expensive side when we also had to pay for the shower.
We are likely to return to this quiet, well maintained site but will do so out of season when the site will be less busy.
Owners Response: This was a particularly busy week-end and we had just one pitch left when we took this booking, we could have given it to a two night stay but in this instance offered it to this campervan owner, a single night stay on a week-end attracts a single night supplement otherwise our week-end trade could be reduced down to just one night for some if not all of our pitches. We are planning on installing a water heater for the outside dish-washing facility (due for late 2010) although there is hot water in the washrooms just a few yards away and lots of campers help themselves to the hot water if they are bothered about washing up in cold water! The shower meter will be converted in the very near future to accept tokens which will allow us to regulate the cost a lot better than as it is now which will only accept £1 coins.

A big thanks to Thetford CCC for not catering for our size tent and thus allowing us to discover Moat Farm. This is a real gem of a site. It's ideally placed for discovering the woodland surrounding Thetford and the areas beyond. 5 minutes cycle ride away from the campsite and you are into the forest from where you can pick up any of the various cycle routes, (OS Map 229 is very useful as is Google Maps now that the site has WiFi installed).
The campsite has 15 generous pitches, most with optional EHU and are non regimented and well laid out. During our stay, there was a torrential downpour for a couple of hours and there was no build up of surface water, a good sign if your camping in a tent. The toilet block was very clean as was the single shower cubicle with plenty of hot water. The dish washing facility is more than adequate for washing up, even if its cold water only.
It's a really peaceful setting, ideal if you want to stay on site and totally relax. There's no children's play area but there were families camping at the weekend.
The owners Peter & Jane are really friendly and very helpful, a nice couple.
Away from the campsite there's a small Tesco in Watton and a 24hr Tesco in Thetford along with Aldi, Sainsbury and the usual suspects. Look for the Chequers Inn at Thompson, a small village to the North West of the campsite, good food and even better beer. The Norfolk coast line is easily accessible from here too. All in all this site has so much going for it and we'll be going again without doubt.

Had a good weekend away at this site, its only small, easy to miss the road its on, so make sure your paying attention.
The facilities consist of one shower, so there is sometimes a queue, also its a pound per shower, which gives you about 12 minutes, so go in pairs, unless you need the full time.
About 5 minutes drive north is a small tescos, for anything you need.
Theres plenty of cycle routes near by through the woods.
No play area for children though, and please be aware its only a single track road outside the gate, but cars come down it very fast.
All in all a nice little site to base yourself at if your planning other things to do in the area.

Small site. Nicely set out. Quiet area. Only one shower for 15+ pitches not great if you want to get out early in the morning. No hot water at the washing up station! Think this site is great off season but can't cope with a full site during peak season.

Wonderful small site with only 15 pitches. Shower and toilet blocks clean and tidy the shower cost of £1 for 12mins is enough to shower 2/3 bodies so good value. The site is set out well and is not far from Thetford / Norwich, there are lots of small villages close to the site with some good pubs serving good food. Tesco in Watton is only 5 miles up the road. You are greeted by the nice owners on arrival and given good information about the site and local area, the site has a one way system for traffic so is safer for the kids to play. The pitch sizes are a good size and the owners ensure plenty of space is kept between each unit for safety. We will visit this site again sometime soon that's for sure.
