Visited this last year but only just joined up to offer my review!
Location - smashing. Really wonderful. The woodlands are such fun and we and the other family we went with have a lovely lovely time.
Facilities - basic. Rather grotty. Didn't bother us as we were only there for a weekend. But I wouldn't stay here for much longer unless you were very comfortable with the baby wipes!
Campfires - win every time! Would go back just for that!
We had a lovely weekend. The cubs were staying at the site and entertained our children which was great, so we could sit back and drink wine.
All in all - for a short stay with a camp fire definitely recommend. For a longer stay? Maybe think twice.

We chose this site because we wanted to be near Bath, and when sent their literature it looked like there was a bus stop right next door to Bath - however it was a different story as you actually had to drive about 2 - 3 miles and get the bus, kind of defeating the purpose. If the public transport has changed, they should reflect this in their leaflets.
Of more concern is the value for money - £20 a night for two plus a tent is easily the most expensive campsite we've ever stayed at, and as such we'd expected good facilities - not two loos and one one filthy shower for what was probably about 70 campers. The hot water was unreliable too, and in general the loo block was not very clean at all, no towel was provided and it ran out of loo roll regularly. I've stayed on sites for £3 with spotless, and plentiful facilities.
Good things: we had a good spot in the first field, back from all the families so it was a bit more private. All the kids from different families were playing in the open space, which was nice. The woods were pleasant, and the area has lots to keep you busy. It was great to be able to have a proper fire, although again the wood which you have to buy was expensive and very damp.

My boyfriend and I spent 1 week camping at Rocks East during the May half term week. I should point out from the start that we had absolutely fantastic weather, so I am reviewing this from a very happy-camper mindset.
When we arrived, at about 2pm on a Friday, the site was quite quiet, only 2 other campers. We were greeted by the lady owner, who was lovely. We had requested some logs for the fire, which she said her husband would be sorting and they would be ready by 5pm.
Our pitch was in the front field, which was a large grass field surrounded by trees. One side of the field is next to a road, it seemed quite quiet but we were on the other side so I can't say what it was like it terms of noise at night.
The site also seems to be under a flight path, we couldn't work out whether it was for Bristol airport or a small airfield nearby, because some of the planes were proper passenger planes and others were little byplanes. We weren't bothered by the plane noise, and a lot of the kids on site liked seeing the small planes.
The owners of the site left at around 6pm, but had made sure the campers arriving after that knew which pitch was theirs with little chalk boards with their names on, and left bags of logs for everyone.
The site became really busy the next day, and one whole field was booked for a private party.
In terms of facilities, there are 2 washing up sinks that share one tap, so there was sometimes a wait for washing up. There a 2 toilets and a shower per sex. The ladies toilets were fine, not especially clean in terms of muddy floors and insects, but that's what to expect if you camp in a forest I suppose! The shower area was small but the shower was lovely and warm. There was always toilet roll in the girls, but I know the boys ran out once. The only bad thing I noticed was that I don't think the hand towels were changed once in the week. I had my own so not too bothered, but for people who didn't it can't have been great.
The forest that the campsite is in is absolutely fantastic. We spent a whole day exploring, the wild garlic was out, and there is a trail that leads to secret ponds and gardens and a bridge, along with a sculpture trail. There are also deer in the woods, although we didn't spot any.
We spent all our other days away from the site, and within 1 hours drive was Longleat, Avebury, Lacock, Glastonbury and Wells, and Bath was about 10 minutes drive away.

This site is all you need to just relax and chill out. What with the camp fires and the woodland to explore, what else do you need? The secret garden is a must but you need to find it first in the 100 acre woodland! Basic facility's but its enough. This was my first time here, over the Easter weekend and had lunch in the nearby village colerne, excellent! Would recommend.

Stayed here with my 6 yr old daughter for one night so that she could experience a 'true campfire'. The campfire spot we had was perfect for us. With the combination of kindling (gathered from the forest floor), sticks (again from the forest) and large logs (£2.50 per bag from the site office) we had a roaring fire in no time and our dutch oven hanging over it.
The site amenities were as basic as they could be whilst still claiming to have them. Gents and ladies toilets, not much lighting around them, two shower units (which we didn't use as we were only there for one night) and an open-air wash-up spot. This, however, for us was one of it's endearing qualities. My daughter loved the contrast with other, more commercial sites, and she enjoyed the feeling of 'living off the forest'.
The forest really is outstanding and is beautiful. Very well managed and conserved, this is one of the key reasons you would go here. Lovely trail walks if you want to follow the path and no fences so you can go exploring beyond the path if you wish. A magical moment with a 6 yr old girl is at 7am on a Sunday morning, when the sun hits the forest canopy and highlights two deer bounding through the woodland. Excellent fun and wonderful surroundings.
So, yes, lovely place. Tranquil and beautiful woodlands. Basic amenities but the open fire more than makes up for it.

We spent Easter weekend 2009 at Rocks East Woodland, two caravans, 4 adults, 5 children, 1 dog in total.
The site is small, made up of two separate level fields on the edge of large, managed woodland. The site appears to cater mainly for tents and motorhomes (ours were the only caravans) and was not full over the period; some pitches were roped off to allow the new grass seed to grow. Some of the pitches have electric hook-up points and the owners provided us with extensions. The facilities are basic (2 loos and 1 shower in the ladies & gents) and a small washing area but we knew this before we went. While clean, the gents ran out of loo paper while we were there. There are water taps, a chemical waste disposal point and the site is into recycling with bins provided for different types of rubbish (paper, plastic, glass etc).
Most of the pitches have a campfire area, wood can either be bought from the shop or collected from the adjoining forest floor where there seems to be an inexhaustible supply. Sitting around the roaring campfire at night was great and the children liked toasting marshmallows. The woods are fantastic, the children loved playing in them and the dog enjoyed the walks – guides and details of interest in them can be got from the site office.
There is no shop on the site but the office sold some essentials - Batheaston to the south (5 mins drive), has shops including ‘The Fat Friar’ snack bar which does fantastic fish and chips. You can also park here and catch a bus into Bath to avoid using the car. Bath is highly recommended (Roman Baths are superb) and you are on the edge of the Cotswolds.
Overall a good site and we enjoyed our 4 days there; the limited facilities make the site more suited to a short stay rather a longer one but it was a quiet, relaxing weekend and the woods and camp fires are superb!

We took the 3 boys (9,5,3) here for three days of camping as my 5 year old wanted to do a 'proper' camp in the woods with a camp fire.
The experience could not have been better for them. We went scavenging for fire wood in the forest, we saw a wild deer in the woods, we played hide and seek in the magical valley of moss-covered rocks. We made bows and arrows and discovered a secret camp and the secret garden. The campfire was central to our existence for those magical few days - we never let it die - reviving it from the last few smouldering embers every morning and even passing the fire to another couple of campers who were trying to get theirs going again. Every meal was cooked and consumed around the fire and we only ventured into the village for fresh supplies.
The toilet block was basic with 2 toilets, 2 basins, a shower, a washing-up sink and fresh water outlet - but if you need more - book into a hotel!
The staff were very cheery and friendly. There was two sacks of wood waiting for us when we arrived. There are no strict pitches, and you just camp near your allotted camp-fire site - which is just a few stones and blocks for you to use to contain your fire and rest your grill on.
My boys didn't want to leave, and I'm sure they will remember this trip for the rest of their days. I know I will - Absolute heaven. Thank you Marylyn for your hospitality.

I absolutely loved this site and can't wait to go back. And that is despite the fact it rained most of the weekend we were there. It's perfect for camping with a small group of friends. Facilities are basic but adequate and the only reason they got grubby was because of the afore-mentioned rain. The staff were friendly and helpful and wood was reasonably priced for the open fires. Even in the rain we managed to get the fire going.
Gorgeous setting for a camp site and great woodland for the kids to explore.
Highly recommended!
Only other comment - could do with a few camping basics in the shop such as milk, etc but the village is a short drive away for supplies if requried.

We camped here for 2 nights to visit Longleat Wildlife park, which was about 40 minutes away. The Red Bull air race was on, so closer sites were fully booked. The facilities at this site are very very basic. I love camping and don't mind a bit of dirt, but the only shower had a filthy floor and I couldn't bring myself to use it. The mop to clean it was filthy too. Washing up area is a double sink with one drainer, so very hard for 2 separate parties to wash up at the same time. The price was £18 per night which I think was way too steep for the facilities, however, I think access to the woods are included in the price (although I'm not sure.) and these are beautiful. We only went in them once, so we probably didn't get our monies worth. The camp fires were a big hit with the men in our group, although one over-zealous party near us were burning wood until 4am and the crackling noise was so bad, I thought we were at risk of burning down! There is a midnight noise curfew, but you just have to hope everyone respects it. So if your prepared for basic facilities, try and camp on the top field as the ground is much softer (had to put our pegs in at a right angle as very stony at the bottom of the site) and make as much use of the woods as you can.

Just got back from a lovely week on this site. Basic site but clean, and staff very helpful. Will definitely return as there is so much to do in the surrounding area and lovely nature walks on site. Ground quite level and plenty of room. EHU just behind tent and we could pretty much pitch where we wanted. It was lovely to see all the real camp fires and you can buy logs on site. There was a bit of noise in the mornings from aeroplanes but only for a couple of hours. They looked like old WW2 spitfires so not commercials flights! Also only about 6 miles off the M4 so easy to get to and within easy reach of Bath, Bristol and Wales.
