Just returned from a four night stay at Byslades, and having read the past reviews, have to say that most of what I have to say has already been said. Stunning views from most pitches. We stayed on pitch 199, which overlooked the valley. Beautiful! Was a bit of an uphill trek to the toilets in the night though.

Toilets and showers were very clean and we never had to queue. Our young children enjoyed the play area, and spent many hours skateboarding down the hills, much to their amusement. The red clay is a little bit of a problem. Make sure you take plenty of clothes.
The pool area was quite good. Secure and clean and never crowded, although would recommend that you take your own refreshments as the shop isn't always open! When it was open. It appeared to be running down it's stocks and had little in.

On the negative side, the bar, although clean and well stocked, lacked any sort of entertainment, and we did kind of feel that it could have fitted in quite nicely in The League of Gentlemen!
My husband called it The Phoenix Nights Club, although there would have been much more to laugh at in there!
This campsite has the potential to be a gold mine. Wish I could afford to buy it and develop it a little. Having said that, we did have a great time, but probably won't return. Need a little more excitement in our holidays!

 Just returned from here.
We stayed a week and we loved it. It was extremely peaceful with beautiful views. However, the tent was pitched next to a slope and open to the winds. The biggest problem was the red mud which got all over everything. Having the laundry on site helped.
The shop didn't sell much, but there was a couple of huge supermarkets nearby so that wasn't a problem. The pool wasn't heated (freezing), but it didn't put the kids off. The bar on site had a small playroom and there was a large outdoor play area for the children which was right opposite the washing up area/toilet block, which was handy as you could watch the little ones whilst washing the dishes. The showers were really warm, which was brilliant. The site was really clean, especially the toilet block which had showers and sinks in little cubicles, allowing you to wash properly in private. We would say that this is by far the best site we've stayed in. Nice and quiet at night. We are planning our trip next summer.

My brother and I have stayed at this site twice and will do again.

The site is very well laid out and presented. It had a spacious feel to the camping pitch. No matter which pitch number they give you, you will never have the feeling of being on top of someone!

Its a family run site and we found the owners to be extremely friendly and very helpful.

Very clean and very well maintained.

Nothing more on this site we could ask for.

We went to Byslades at the last minute in the second week of the school holidays.  We were on the way down to Devon and rang up on the way to book a pitch.  Thankfully they had space and made us feel welcome.

We had a pitch on the bottom tear but was not to far from the toilet & showers.

Morrisons is 5 minutes down the road and it is not far from Brixham with it's salt water pool and Torquay.

The toilet & showers were lovely & clean and always plenty of hot water.  Our neighbours used the little cafe quite a lot for lunch & breakfast and gave it the thumbs up.

The pool area way lovely & clean, but our only issue was the rules around the pool.  No running, jumping as you would expect.  But no inflatables, Rubber rings etc (OK we can live with that)  and the BIGGEST issue no T-Shirts in the pool.  For me this is no problem but for the kids - hmm - especially as it was the hottest week of the school holidays and the weather men are telling you to cover the kids up at the hottest part of the day.  They just want to play in the pool.

The bar/club was clean but there was no entertainment,  not to much of an issue as this was carnival week in Paignton.

All in all a lovely site and well run - just a same about the silly pool rule of no T-shirts in the pool.

We will go back again

We have just returned from a 9 day holiday at Byslades.  I will highlight the downside first:- On arrival we were given pitch 117 which is at the very top of the site on an end and quite a distance from the toilet block which caused a problem at night with our two children, this site only has two toilet blocks and one of those is near the caravans they could do with another near the tents.  Like the other campers from Scotland we were also infested with ants (two nests to be exact) we did put this down to the joys of camping to start with and tried to ignore it but when my daughters were finding them in their bedroom and they were climbing in the sugar and our fridge we asked to be moved - the owner and the receptionist were quite reluctant at first to admit they even had a problem with ants, they eventually agreed to move us to a pitch lower down only to find the same problem - this site has a major problem with ants as we were told by many other campers that they had the same problem so be warned!  We even spoke to a chap who seived the ants out of his bottle of beer!
I am sure the pool is heated but perhaps the owners could turn it up a bit as this is Torquay we are talking about and it certainly didn't feel 'heated to us'.
The showers are luke warm and again not enough showers in the camping block - four showers and a queue every morning in your PJ's isn't what you want!
This site seems to be family run with the owner to tight to employ staff and the few people he has got working there all seem to 'live' on the site in caravans.
Beware of the sea gulls - they are constantly waiting for food and if you leave your plates and pans out overnight they will come and pick them up carrying them several yards away!
The club is a room to drink in with a tape in the tape player - nothing for the children and no entertainment.

On the up-side (now let me see) . The park was a massive hit with the children and suitable for all ages with crazy golf and a huge field to play in.  This site is in a perfect location as Torquay is only 5 mins away in the car along with Model Village,  Paignton, Cockington Village, the leisure centre (for rainy days), yet it is far enough to be away from all the noise.   The £10 deposit for a card to enter and leave the site is a great idea and we felt safe letting our children walk about the site on there own.
It did seem that no matter where you were pitched on this site you had a great view and this did make up for our ant infestations in fact after several glasses of wine each night the ants didn't bother us!
All in all this site needs to have a bit of money spent on it and employ a few more members of staff for entertainment and perhaps invest in getting rid of the ants and then maybe you will have a few more people return to this site.

My self and my 2 boys have returned from this site in which my boys thoroughly enjoyed this site, the swimming pool was good and it opened around 11ish everyday but they did say it was cold.
The showers and toilets were very clean but we found the showers near the kids playing area were bigger to move and get dressed in.
I would return to this site in the future and I would recommend it to friends and family.
If you get the chance to visit Woodlands Leisure Park make sure you got your walking shoes on.

We have just returned after spending 9 nights on Byslades. What a lovely site this is. Plenty of spaces between caravans so you did not feel hemmed in. Toilets and showers were nice and clean (showers were free), outside were sinks with hot water for washing up. Shop and cafe on site, next door was an outdoor heated pool which whilst we were there opened 10.15- 6.00 and was cleaned everyday before it opened (quite a sun trap). Next to this was the bar which opened at 8.00pm ( children were allowed in) although many of the older ones played pool in a room at the bottom of the bar for about 50p a game. There was also a childrens outdoor play area (free) and for a small change you could have a game of tennis or crazy golf. We found the prices of the campsite really reasonable compared to the site we stayed on last year and this was a lot better. If we come down this way again we would definitely book this site

This was our first camping experience with children. We were very impressed. The toilets were very clean and there were no ques for the showers which were good; if anything they were a little too fierce and hot ! There was a useful baby change room and private washing cubicles. The washing up area was very good;always clean and under cover which was useful. The children's play area was superb, and there was a pool which looked nice but unfortunately it wasn't the weather to try it. There was a games room which my son played pool in; this was useful as our younger children are 3 and 5 .My only little moan was being near to the main road;however, being a late booking I suppose someone has to get that pitch.I am hoping that these standards are maintained even throughout the busy summer season as this will definitely be our main holiday next year so maybe I shouldn't have given it such a good review, now you will all want to go !

We stayed here for 8 days and loved it. The site was quiet and the pitches were well spaced. We were in the paddock area and had wonderful views across the hills. The toilet block was always clean and the free showers were always hot. The pool was excellent and we used it a few times during the week. There was no daily charge for the pool as we had expected either. The takeaway / cafe was ample and we enjoyed a nice fry up there one morning. The campsite is in a good location, peaceful but near to the Zoo, Totnes and the beaches. We found Paignton itself to be a little tacky but Torquay, Teigmouth Brixham and Dartmouth were picturesque towns. In the evenings when we wanted to go out without driving, a bus stops outside the campsite and takes you to Torquay for about £3. A taxi back only cost us £10. There is a beautiful old pub next to the campsite called The Blagdon which we visited and it does nice food.

We got discount tickets for the Quaywest Waterpark from the campsite office so its worth seeing what they have when you go. There is a big Sainsburys and Morrisons within 5 mins drive of the campsite too.

I would definitely return to this site.

I was so disappointed with Byslades International Touring Park ,  We had travelled from Glasgow with two children aged 11 and 15 and had booked two weeks in Byslades.  When we first arrived there the pitch we were given was infested with ants so after two days we were moved to a different pitch so we spent the time putting up our awning and putting it down not exactly off to a good start,  however the new pitch was fine.
In the brochure it states the park is suitable for children.  The games room closed at 9.00pm In the brochure it states it has a bar (when they decide its to be open ie closed more than open and not opening till 8.30pm) In the brochure they also state there is a pool yes again for a half day 12.00 till 6.00pm no I was not impressed with Byslades.
They have a great site there and could have a good set up if only there were not running the site on a shoe string, hire more staff and have entertainment or even music  in the bar (when they decide to open it). I will not recommend this site to anyone.
