The staff where helpful and friendly, the pitches were well spaced out, clean toilet blocks. The near by pub Blagdon Inn was lovely althought we didn't try the food there. We spent a lot of time in paignton and would not recommend the food at the Flag Ship very disappointed.
For those with young children Penny Well was great value for money. Would recommend this site.

We have just returned from a week at byslades and wow what a beautiful view we had from our tent, the rolling devon hills made this a pleasant stay, the grass was cut nice and short and the staff were very friendly
There were 2 shower / toilet blocks which were kept clean and tidy and the water was hot and free. The washing up facilities were also clean although the hot water trickled out taking for ever to fill the sink,
Now the down side, the shop on site was very small and basic, the take away had been closed down and the children's park was also very small and basic
The only bar/pub was in the next site at the blagdon inn which was beautiful but still a pain if you just wanted a couple of pints in your own campsite, but all in all this site was lovely and if I was going to devon again I would stay here again.

Have just spent a week at Byslades, the views over the valley are stunning, made even better by the sunshine each day! We were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the over 50s offer they have at low season which was 7 nights for £65.00.
Pitches are a good size many with great views over the hills.
There is a small shop in the reception which stocks basic items which was really handy. There is a games room with pool table and table tennis, also a tennis court and children's play area and crazy golf.A lso we were able to use the indoor swimming pool next door for a small fee.
And The Blagdon Inn was just a short walk away for food, the Sunday Carvery was really nice.
The toilet block was kept very clean at all times.
We found the staff very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them!
We will definitely be back!

We stayed Whitsun bank holiday weekend. Very pleasant, clean toilet blocks, children's playground area, small basic shop for odd supplies. However, there are set pitches for your tent and car, so if you have a large tent this can be a bit of a squeeze. Luckily it was quiet and so we spread out a bit!
On the Friday night we went to the Blagdon Inn for a meal. Not impressed as mine had plastic in it and no offer of a refund. Having travelled all day with a toddler and put up a tent I was too tired to argue.
The campsite is well maintained with lovely views.
We would definitely use it again. If you have young children ask to pitch by the playground as it is a dead end for cars and you have 2 toilet blocks to choose from.

This is the 2nd time we've visited and were sad to find it had been taken over by the next door static site and this has led to the loss of shop, pool and cafe, but not the games room.
The site was very well kept, pitches for tents were large.
Showers and loos were kept spotless at all times, and the grass was cut while we were there, too.
The wardens on site couldn't be more helpful. They were able to suggest 'rainy day' activities for us, give us the weather forecast, and were just great generally.
Haulfryn Group who now own the site, allow reduced cost access to their gym and indoor pool, both of which looked as immaculate as the next door park. You can also get very good value, freshly cooked food, (and a nice pint of Bay's beer) in the Blagdon Inn. We ate here twice and found it excellent.
The only downside to this site is the din from the main road, but if you pitch away from this it's not as bad.
In all a great little site, with beautiful views, perhaps in need of a little refreshing, but we would definitely go again

Stayed here over the Easter weekend, pitch was fine close to shower blocks. Weather was superb for time of year. Shower blocks where very clean tidy, only problem was with showers only lasted for about 10 seconds before you had to open shower door and hit the start button again. The red clay/mud is all around Torquay area so I would expect it where ever you stayed. Apart from that I would recommend this site to any one, was good location for all the attractions in the area. Had a fabulous time and will definitely be returning soon.

Spent four late summer days at Byslades, and fortune obviously smiles on the brave as we had probably the best few days of a poor, poor summer. We were a group of six thirtysomethings who wanted to have a few ciders and bit of fun in a peaceful environment and the site is really quite excellent and pretty much ticks all the boxes.
The site is on the edge of Paignton but don’t worry, you’d hardly guess as it looks out on beautiful, rolling, South Devon hills. Where we camped there was plenty of space with a large open field in front of us to kick a football about on and throw the odd la boule, however, where the caravans and motor homes were based it was a lot tighter and lacking in the views that make this site so special. The staff were friendly and whilst they were a visible presence around the site daily they were unobtrusive and just let us get on with it.
Facilities wise, there are two toilet blocks that are maybe a little old and small but were perfectly acceptable while we were staying, however, when it is very busy this could be different. Byslades has just been taken over by the next door static site and therefore, for a small fee you are able to use the swimming pool, with sauna and steam room and gym, there is also the Blagdon Inn which serves fairly good grub at reasonable prices.
The site is close to many local towns of varying charm and attraction, the closest being Paignton, which unfortunately is the less desirable of all the towns, being somewhat run down and resembling some of the seedier Mediterranean destinations such as Magaluf and Faliraki, Torquay is more up market and worth a visit, but the two local jewels are Totnes and Dartmouth, both very pleasant little towns.
In summary, a site you can’t really go wrong with

Booked in for 1 week, stayed for 1 night!
Extreme wet weather the week before had left the site swamped with water, even the light rain we experienced whilst there caused problems an obvious drainage problem. The top inch of ground was like a slurry of red clay. We left the site in disgust unable to camp and without a refund! The shop, pool and cafe/bar have all been closed but you do get the use of the pool at the adjoining site. This is supposed to be a temporary measure but seems to be quite permanent. The red mud on site when wet also stains clothes and will not come out. This site was recommended to me by a good friend and all the reviews seem to be good but unfortunately standards have slipped a lot! The site is dirty and beginning to look shabby round the edges it would not surprise me to find this site redeveloped next year for static caravan use like the site next door.
The nearest shop is a few miles into paington and the Blagdon Inn on the static site seems to be ok although we did not use it. The site is also next to a major road that becomes very congested from 10.30am onwards until way into the afternoon. At night it can also be quite noisy depending on were you are sited. Paignton itself is also quite shabby and seems to be an area in decline especially around the sea front its well worth going that bit further to Torquay although the site is very close to the fantastic Paington Zoo
All in all a very expensive site for a field with a toilet. The fact that I stayed only 1 night after having travelled 350 miles to it should speak volumes!

I come from Devon but live in Kent now and we were looking for a campsite to stay at. We choose Byslades, a good choice, 1st the site was clean and quiet, it was half empty with a mix of tents and caravans. We were 3 couples all on motorcycles so needed a site to keep us looked after in case the weather was bad. Leading onto the weather it was very bad, rained for 6 of the 8 days there and very heavy.
Not the sites fault just Devon as a whole, the site had 2 toilet/shower buildings large camping/touring pitches all looking a good size for each, most were level with some on a slightly sloping pitch. The views were great, but not protected from the weather. There was a club house, very nice inside with everything you would need, bar, games rooms. No live music but it was nice just being able to chat to friends and staff. The owners were nice with no problems from them considering we were bikers, thanks, we felt relaxed there and accepted, nice to feel like that as we rode 300 miles to get there.
The site was good, there was an outdoor swimming pool which we tried a couple of times, not bad bit cold, lots of rules but if your an adult with no kids not a problem. There was a small shop on site which did not have too much stuff in but did a great breakfast, in fact we ate every morning there.
All in all the site is good very minor problems but nothing to ruin your holiday at all, we are all planning to go back again this year so cant be that bad.
A great price as well for a site this size and close to all areas, only problem we had was the red mud but again hey it did rain for ever.
There are a lot of sites in Devon, all different prices, all offering different things. I think you should look at this site it is big, play areas for kids, pool, bar, level camping/touring, small shop on site and a bar, no evening meals though so be careful you will have to go off site if not cooking yourself.
Hope this helps you if your coming to Devon it really is a decent site but you have to understand every site has its little problems its good/bad things just be sensible and try not to go when its raining.
