We stayed at this site for 3 nights in the May half term in a motorhome. The only good thing about this site was it's location right next to the beach, which is great if you're really into surfing, or you have older children who can go down to the beach by themselves.

It was very expensive (£40 a night) and on top of that you had to pay 50p for the showers. The slot machine to pay was outside the shower cubicle, so if you were longer than 5 mins, which you probably will be when you're trying to shower yourself and young children, you have to wrap a towel around yourself to run outside and insert another 50p.

In the morning the showers were hot, but in the evening when everyone has come off the beach, they were cold and you had to queue. They also weren't that clean, but this was probably because the site was very full and busy.

The pitches were very close together and you have no privacy. Because of the slope at the site, we put our motorhome on ramps, but the tent behind us was pitched so close to us, when we came to leave there wasn't enough room for us to reverse back off the ramps.

There were lovely walks along the coast path and it was a 2 min walk into Polzeath for the shops. There was also a pub near the site entrance. The site had it's own Indian restaurant with a lovely terrace, but there was a strong smell of curry most of the time if your pitch was next to the restaurant.

If you were able to visit this site outside of the school holidays, when it is not so full and busy it would probably be better.

I was really looking forward to going to this site, but was very disappointed. I'm glad we hadn't booked for two weeks.

Returned yesterday from a fab two night stay here. Agree the pitch price is steep but wow wot a fab location the view was great, the pitch easily fitted our T4 van, awning and windbreaks making a rather nice area for us. The site was only half full so I can imagine in busier times you can feel slightly camped in. Staff very helpful and polite nothing too much trouble.

Facilities were spotless I certainly don't mind paying 50p for a clean shower, before you insert your money just check the shower is turned off by turning the dial anti-clockwise no need to strip and run you can easily get undressed in the cubicle and enjoy the full 5min shower!

The weather turned out fab on saturday so after a stroll around the shops a nice cuppa tea and tea cake we headed back to lay in the sun on the site and enjoy nothing more than chilling out. A perfect weekend only spoilt by the british weather had planned a day on the beach sunday but instead came home and cooked roast and watched the rain pour down!

Cant wait to head back there next spring now. :-)

Visited this site last week on the first day of a weeks holiday. Only stayed one night.

Price of £20 for a pitch 2 feet away from the next tent and 5 feet away from 2 vans, and on a slope. No privacy. Before we pitched we asked if we could move somewhere else.

Position of campsite fantastic - gorgeous views possible if you pay for a premier pitch. 50p for the showers is extortion - given the amount you have already paid for the pitch.

Lovely clean site, fantastic views from pitch 72. However a little steep for our 6 berth motorhome even on high blocks. We have a 13 yr ols son who surfed morning, noon and evening and we could parent him from the motorhome with a pair of bino's.

I did however find that being in a motorhome in the tent field we did not get to socialise as we have found in other sites.

Toilet blocks, showers and washing facilities excellent I don,t mind paying 50p for cleanliness and hot water.

My main criticism however would be that the dish washing facilities were backing onto the mens toilet cubicles and therefore the odours permeating through were less than desirable when washing dishes.

There were others but they again were by toilets and shower blocks. Minor quibble.

We would definitely return and would recommend to others.

As previously said on other posts, the location is fantastic: you walk out the gate down the rocks and you're on the beach. The site is well drained, we were in a tent and even after overnight rain it dried out quickly.

Pitches are tight unless you have a premier pitch and far too close together, the suggested 6 metre rule does not exist here. The site has lots of rules regarding single sex groups, ball games, cycling etc. However these are constantly flouted and not enforced.

Toilet facilities are reasonably clean but could benefit from updating but mainly insufficient for the number of pitches. Showers cost 50p which is expensive especially considering the cost of the pitch and anything you take in will get wet!

Surf hire concession was friendly and reasonable and there are cold showers/sinks for cleaning wetsuits. Polzeath is a few minutes walk, lots of surf shops and a Spar and Costcutter which are open til late and even sell 2 types of caviar!

Overall amazing location unfortunately this is what you are paying for.

Stayed at Tristram this week - the site is well organised and the shower blocks expensive but well kept, but and a very big but, the pitches are very small and on a slope (for all but the most expensive). We have a small tunnel but found out pitch encroached on both sites by other campers. Small pitch size is the biggest bugbear with this site - you just feel like a sardine. If you like extreme togetherness - you'll have a lovely time.
Polzeath is the place to go surfing and the site is on the clifftop over the bay but for most pitches there is no seaview - you're blocked by other tents / caravans.

Whilst in Polzeath we looked at the Valley campsite which is very close and has much bigger pitches - we shall be going there in future.

A highlight of the w/e was the walk to Daymer Bay - seeing Dolphins in the estuary. Daymer Bay is a complete contrast to Polzeath - very family oriented and with just one shop by the beach.

Spent four days at Tristram last week. The weather was pretty good (except for our first and last days).

Everything I wanted to say has basically been said- a bit cheeky charging for showers and the pitches are tight, with a lot of people crammed on there. No hand driers in the loos. It's also quite expensive when compared to other sites

However, the location is fabulous, the staff efficient and the toilets and showers very clean.

Polzeath beach is wonderful, especially if you're into surfing (I'm not) and a lovely family atmosphere pervades. Plenty of lifeguards present. The cliff-top walk is gorgeous too.

Polzeath is close to Port Isaac (Doc Martin's home village) and of course Padstein, amongst other places.

The Saltwater Bistro, located next to the reception, is very nice but a bit pricey. The view from the terrace however, especially on a pleasant evening, makes it worth it (a cold beer in your hand and London hundreds of miles away!).

The Oystercatcher pub, two minutes walk from the site gate is good for (fairly unexciting but reasonably priced) food, and decent beer. You need to get there before about 6 for food though unless you want a lengthy wait.

Minus point- the local (only) chippy. Rip-off prices (£6:30 for very average fish & chips and 30p for sachets of ketchup too) and service with a scowl! The bloke running it clearly knows he's cornered the market.

In short, you won't regret visiting Tristram and I can't wait to go back.

After a horrendous week (anything that could go wrong did) we decided to go to this campsite for the weekend. Although very expensive (premier pitch), it was a great spot and the views were fantastic (once the car park had cleared out from the day traffic).

The showers are 50p which we found an extra expense especially when the pitch is pricey.

Having said that though, the location is great and the walks up to the headland were just spectacular. So much so my boyfriend proposed as we were watching the sun set over the Atlantic. We had such a fantastic, relaxing but packed full weekend that we are heading off today for a week there! Must be good to return so quick.

Just spent a bank holiday weekend here. What a fantastic little site sat on a cliff top overlooking polzeath. Toilet and shower blocks are small but clean 50p a shower not that bad I thought, at least you can be sure of a hot shower.
The gate at the bottom end of the site leads straight out onto the beach what a bonus with 3 teenage kids (all budding surfers) you can almost baby sit from your awning with a glass of wine in hand. Although the site was mainly tents we found it fairly easy to fit in and the staff where very helpful with reception open till 9pm. Lovely smashing great going back for a week in august .

Have been visiting here for last 15 years, all different times of the year, first with family and now just me and my dog. I always feel safe and there's always someone around to help on the site, usually other campers.
It`s expensive, but cheaper than a hotel or b and b and the views and access to the beach are the best anywhere. Showers are expensive (but clean),other sites in the area are cheaper and don't charge for showers, but there's always the free open air cold shower.
Can be very very crowded and young children running wild once the staff have gone home, but only in the main holidays.

Easy walk to village shops, pub and nearby cafes - just as well, nothing on site, but that keeps it quieter. Pitches well marked and grass kept cut.
