We are a retired couple with one of us partially disabled so it was our intention to find a good campsite as a matrix and visit Cornwall by bus using our pensioner bus passes.
Parbola campsite is set in beautiful woodlands with buzzards and rabbits. The hardstanding we requested was just hardcore buried in grass and was difficult to see on a muddy site.
The shower block was close by; as was the water supply which was an old tap on a crumbling post with water cascading onto concrete blocks. We were there for a week but sadly the men's toilets and showers were not cleaned during that time.
Staff did not know that the local bus stop was actually their main gate. When we asked about a hot meal in the village to save us cooking after a 7 hour trip they did not know about the fish & chip vendor just a short distance away.
The speed hump between our pitch and the showers was unlit and easy to trip over in the dark.
The natural aspect of this site was superb but the human aspect was rather sad!

Stayed here in our tent for a week in June 2012. What a wonderful hidden gem! Perfectly situated to explore St Ives, Penzance, Gwithian and all of the south of Cornwall!
We really felt like we'd struck lucky with this site as its set in quiet picture-perfect woodland surroundings, only a 5 min drive to Hayle with selection of shops large co-op, pubs and chippy, and a pleasant 5-10 mins drive to the beaches at Gwithian and around 15mins to St Ives and Penzance.
The site has a great selection of facilities too without being overly commercial. Free wifi, large launderette, free freezers for ice packs, plenty of washing up sinks with hot water. The main toilets which we utilized had plenty of hot showers, clean and well furnished with loo roll and toiletries, free hair dryers, and an additional make up room with sockets.
The park, football nets, pool and games room were ace for the children and the shop stocked all the essentials, and in our experiences for a campsite the products were reasonably priced. Pitches were the largest we have experienced also, lots of room for our Outwell monty 6, gazebo and car, pitches were flat, quite private and the entire site was well maintained. The staff were very friendly and welcoming also.
Genuinely loved this place and felt very reasonably priced holiday, compared to other sites, given all the pros! We would definitely return.

A fantastic park, the pitch size is massive, we had a pitch in the trees with size for the caravan, full awning, gazebo, car and space left over. The park is nice and quite.
It is situated in a great position for visiting the south. Only down point is the toilet facilities which were not very clean.
The showers were free and hot but only stayed on for about 30 seconds per push. Lots of pubs within 20 mins drive. Small outdoor pool and play area for the young ones but not a lot for teenagers.
The owners were always happy to help. Tesco Extra only 10 mins drive. Would go back.

It was our first visit to this site and area and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The campsite was clean and the owners friendly. It was perfectly situated, making visiting surrounding areas easy to reach and the beaches are very nice.
Some of the pitches could have been bigger due to entrances between the different fields if you have got a big tent.
The toilets and showers were very clean. The other campers that we met was very friendly and helpful and they have been coming back for many years.
We are hopefully returning next year!

We have stayed at this site for 2 years running. First year we were new to camping in a tent. We were absolutely gobsmacked as to how beautiful the pitches were.
Surrounded by tree. S and hedges with wildlife in abundance early in the morning.
The older shower block that we used was basic but with loads of free hot water for showers. There is a newer block but hey we were camping so I had a choice
The owners and staff were really lovely, as were the locals.
No club was a bonus and the site is central for visiting all areas of Cornwall.
This place is a little Gem. We would have returned again this year but have aquired a dog, Understandably as we are on holiday during the school holidays, dogs are not permitted.
We will be back next year in July. One of the best kept secrets in the area.

We visited this site 2 years running, 2010 and 2011. I have given a review for past visits
Really lovely site for those who don't require a club house and evening entertainment.
We acquired a rescue dog in 2012. Chocy lab, could not book in August due to school holidays and no dog policy. Understandable
This year we tried to book for the first week of July, now it is no dogs during whole of July and August. ?
The school hols usually start from 19th July and as our kids are now all grown up we always try to book before the main school holiday. Parbola. You have lost a regular customer and a 2 week booking for this year. I really cannot understand why you have banned dogs 2 weeks prior to the school holidays when other camp sites are more than happy to accommodate us with the dog through out the whole school holidays

Stayed here in peak weeks of summer. Great site for families. Nice clean showers. Small shop for your bits and bobs. The outdoor pool was cold but the kids didn't seem to mind. There was an indoor games room with pool etc and even a little crazy golf course. Main plus for me with this site was the accessibility to explore Cornwall. Great location.

We came back again! Just as we promised.
Lovely welcome as usual. We came in a trailer tent last time but we thought this time we would go for real basic camping. A tent, a kettle and a George Forman Grill!.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pitch was huge, the toilets clean with plenty of hot water and a well stocked shop. Lots to do on the park the pool is lovely, the games room and mini golf are great and plenty of open play space.
On the evening it is peaceful with no rowdy club house or drunks wandering past. Suits us fine with children in bed we can relax.
There is a village pub a few hundred yards up the road and a chip shop 5 minutes drive away but if you want to go further afield during the day beautiful beaches and attractions are fairly local and on the evening plenty of night life and entertainment as well as great places to eat, all within twenty minutes drive.

We only booked a few weeks beforehand and I think this site can usually accommodate late bookings as it was never full whilst we were there. We did have some reservations about the site as most other sites were full in the area and we wondered if the amenities would be of an acceptable standard. We ended up having very mixed feelings about this site as it had many good points alongside equally bad points.
The good bits:
Picturesque woodland setting. Quiet site with spacious pitches individually laid out in areas. The site has successfully avoided structuring units in lines and hemming them in. Hugh play area for children, biggest I have ever seen. Just a few miles from Gwithian Beach, good pubs and local farm shops. New make up room with electric points and mirrors to allow ladies to do their hair and make up. I thought this was a nice touch especially for people in tents.
The bad bits:
I did not think the amenity block was up to standard for the price of £37 a night. We had read a previous review about the refurbished block and having used the facilities I went on a hunt for these only to find out the ones I had used were the newer ones.
If you are staying near the older facilities they tell you that you can't use the other ones. This was ignored and they just could not cope with the volume of people using the facilities at the beginning of our stay when the site was nearly full however; the conditions improved, as would be expected, when the site emptied to not even being half full.
The amenity block was cleaned at regular intervals however; unlike all other sites I have stayed at the block was not closed off for a period to allow a thorough clean. This had the advantage that you can use the facilities constantly however; they never got a thorough clean and always looked grubby and were more smelly than I would expect.
I thought that the launderette was overpriced at £4.50 for a wash and my son thought that the games room was overpriced at £1 for pool and air hockey. When other local facilities were charging 50 pence I think he had a point.
Overall: I think this site is generally very overpriced. Yes it does have a games room but our teenage son hardly used it because he again thought they had overcharged for its use. It does have a swimming pool but it is quite small.
We feel that it is a 3 star site charging the same as 5 star sites which are located in the area of St Ives. Sites right on Gwithian beach are much cheaper and with far better amenities although the site could argue that they don't have a pool or games room but do you really need these. I do have to say though that this site grew on us throughout our stay.
This was helped by the fact that the state of the amenities improved as the site became emptier towards the latter part of our stay. Would we stay there again? A definite yes for the quality of the pitches in a lovely location. But we would have to see a vast investment in the amenities to warrant the premium price this site charges.
We loved the area and for now have booked a site on Gwithian Beach for location and quality of amenities and will compromise not having a games room or swimming pool. But we know we will miss this peaceful site and its beautiful location with lovely pitches.
Come on Parbola your site could be great even though a few mile from the beach if you just improved some of your amenities. It is so very nearly there. I have to say if I had younger children I would compromise the amenities for the amount of space for them to play and the peacefulness.

A friend and I stayed at Parbola for 5 days last summer. The campsite itself was pretty nice. We did book a semi private pitch, however when we turned up we were told we had to camp in the main field which is a sort of free for all. We pitched up in the corner to save being right next to anyone else which meant we had the longest walk to the reception and the toilets.
The reception had a small shop which in itself was pointless. There was hardly any stock and anything there was there seemed a little over priced. They did have a swimming pool and a games room which we did not use but other families and children especially seemed to like this.
We both found the shower block / toilets pretty poor to be honest. There did not seem to be enough of either when the campsite was only half full when we were there. Having a lack of facilities like this would have been bearable if they were clean, but for the whole time we stayed there, one set of mens toilets looked like they hadnt been cleaned at all.
The three different staff we encountered were abrupt and didnt welcome us in the way we were expecting. Any questions we asked seemed to be putting them out.
Part of the campsite is in woodland which is quaint and lovely, but being in the open field was just a bit dull, especially as that's not what we wanted.
The location was ok although it really is a drive to anywhere. Theres not really any scenic walks or anything like that we could do from the site itself and due to the staff, we didn't ask them for any help.
One thing to bear in mind if staying here is that its right near a cabbage farm, and the smell that comes around almost all the time is not pleasant.
