This is the first time I've written a review on a site but I felt I needed to say a few things about it.

Have just returned from 2 weeks at this site. It says it's a 5 star site, it maybe for the static vans but not for the campers, possibly a 3!. I know the owners can't help what the weather throws at us but the site is in need of TLC. If we hadn't paid up front for the whole 15 nights we would have moved on, as it was we left early.

Negatives:

The grass on camping field wasn't cut while we were there, leaving it long & the field seemed to be always waterlogged. We ended up going to B&Q & bought a dozen decking tiles just to keep off the grass & mud.

Toilet, shower & sinks in one unit, with 2 that are loo/sink which is fine until all 8 are full & you just need the loo. With the awful weather the units were left muddy & wet, so beware of the floor when having a shower, always had to have shoes on just to keep clean or rewash your feet when back at your van. They could also do with putting extractor fans in as condensation was bad, which made units smell musty. Soap dispensers not in use so sinks had hand wash bottles which were quite often empty. Loo rolls again ran out, so had to check before using the loo. I dread to think what it's like when the camping is full, there was only about 15 vans/tents & the site can take 28? units.

Positives:

Staff were friendly & helpful.

Washing up facilities were fine, always had hot water & under cover.

Pool was good.

Bar seemed ok. (we didn't use it)

Location is good, can get to many places with ease, loads of local attractions & some lovely walks from the site.

To sum it up if you want a static caravan holiday go for it. We won't be making a return visit

I stayed in a static Caravan for a few days at the end of August, now the caravan was meant to be high quality but it was a bog standard one to be honest, the TV did not work properly letting it down too.

The site itself is alright, I love the trees scattered around, the swimming pool is decent, there is also a small bar just above, but they are limited in range of drinks. I quite like it's location and is not that far from St Austell and Pentewan.

You can feed Donkeys and Goats on site, in fact I thought that was a bit of a cheek as they advertise that you can buy carrots their etc to feed their animals.

I checked out the camping facilities, it has flat Grass pitches and it seems safe enough to camp alone or with children. The showers and toilets are decent too. It is very expensive to camp here and I don't think it is worth the money.

Overall Sun Valley is a decent campsite, nothing too special but it is alright just the same.

Places to visit.

St Austell

St Austell is down the road and if you park on the Travel Lodge car park along with McDonald;s and Pizza Hit, it is free to park on. St Austell is surprising, as you get into town you see what looks like modern apartments, when actually hidden ammongst them is a shopping center and a car park.

Charles Town, A pretty little fishing village, nothing much there to be honest but it is worth a few pictures. If you must park it is worth parking further up the hill and walking down as parking is on the expensive side.

Fowey. Just outside St Austell roughly 7 miles away is Fowey. A picturesque town with lost to see and do, also offering great views and sea air. I would suggest catching a bus rather than driving. If you park, the main car park is on a hill and like most places in Cornwall it is expensive to park, and if you wish there is a local bus service taking you into town but that adds to the cost after all, I would suggest walking down and if you need to catch the bus back. There are parking bays in the main town but it is difficult to drive around.

Mevagissey, compared to Fowey is a little bit of a let down, but still worth a visit. It is better to park on the charity car park if you intend to stay longer than a couple of house. It is still a pretty town but save your money for parking and visit Fowey or Looe.

Looe, is one of my favourite places to visit, say no more, it's great for taking pictures, has it's own character and has a small sandy beach as well as a harbour.

As for beaches, the best one we found was Boswinger and you can park for free if you are lucky.

Reviewer: Ang/Ken 18 reviews from this member

Spent 2 weeks on this site with our touring caravan. 2 adults & 11 year old. The site was quiet most of the time we were there but did get busy the last week as it was half term.

The indoor swimming pool was open and was free to use.

The shop sold the basics.

The toilets / showers are unisex and individual units each comprising of shower / toilet / sink all except one with just a toilet. They were clean and tidy and we never had to wait.

The playarea is a little way from the camping/touring area.

There are 2 games rooms - one by reception suitable for children and adults with machines & pool table and another next to the club house which is mainly suitable for children. Both games rooms had 2p machines as well as pool tables.

The club house was open every night and the food was great, limited entertainment whilst we were there but a good party on the last night.

We found this site to be good value and enjoyed staying there. Its ideally situated for lots of things in Cornwall incl Eden Project, Charlestown, St Austell, Mevigissay, to name just a few. We will definitely return

my husband and I stayed at sun valley for a few days this year. The setting was beautiful. Pitches were spacious. Quiet when we were there.

The pool looked lovely though we didn't have time to use it. We did however check out the clubhouse and had a lovely meal in the bar / restaurant. I went for the club burger. Which was absolutely huge and brilliant value for money. It was cooked to perfection. One of the best I have ever had.

The toilet blocks were all individual toilet showers and washbasins which were well fitted out but could be a problem for anyone wanting to use a toilet on site when showers were all taken as only one separate toilet. One shower room was out of use while we were there. Awaiting repair. Though campsite was not even a quarter full I had to wait 20mins to take a shower as all were full.

Our only criticism is the lack of light coming into the showers very dark apat from small skylight window, though I loved the site the thought of taking a shower there was not very appealing.

Yet it was probably one of most luxurious ones we had used. The first shower I used also did not work hence the wait for a free one after.

It was a site I would really like to return to

Location is good central for many walks or easy travel to heligan. Caerhays. Eden project. Loads to do. Games room.

Only down points seemed to us to be the lack of maintenance on a few things fencing broken, showers not working. General air of things not being kept up which we felt was a shame.

The price to stay was reasonable as they had a special deal on at the time. But there are still other camps across the road cheaper. But without the clubhouse though.

I think this site could have been perfect. But for a few small things letting it down.

We would like to go there again. Perhaps if it had a different communal toilet block so more people could use at busier times. Staff were friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

We arrived and were given a caravan which was fairly old, smelt very musty and the fridge door had a piece of string around it holding the shelf on and a lot of mould around the bottom and on the seals. Shower room looked a bit grim, bedrooms were clean though. I went to complain and the staff were very nice about it and as we had arrived early not everything was ready, the manager showed us an apartment(A10) instead which he agreed to swap us to. The apartment size was brilliant and so we settled in. The furniture was very dated and the living room felt cramped as the dining table and suite were just to big for the room, the place also had a very damp smell and we did struggle to sleep for coughing. The shower did not work and I went to reception and they fixed the shower asap and we were offered a de-humidifier. I must say they did offer us another caravan but when I looked it was very cramped with no kettle and a bit musty and as the apartment had a big freezer which we had stocked up for our stay and the caravan did not I declined this.

The site is a little neglected in places, as other reviews say but this could be rectified with a bit of effort, Flower beds overgrown with weeds, fences in places a bit broken.

The pool is excellent, very clean, as was the games room which has a ball pit which my kids were rarely out of. The playground was very good but kids did not use it much as it was right up the other end of the site tucked away in a high corner. The field had sunloungers for use for everyone, and most evenings I spent out with my book and a drink, while watching the kids playing football etc.

The club was not great and entertainment is on Thurs & Fri with a quiz on Wed. We went down on our last two nights but missed the quiz nights. We did eat at the club, meals were ok but the menu was quite pricey for what you get. They don't take card payments at the club, which we did not know until we arrived and ordered so had to use the cash machine in the club which charges £2 approx.

Walked to Pentewan which was quite a nice stroll and my husband went for a jog in the evenings down the trail. Pentawan was not great beach as the sand is quite course, as is Carlyon Bay, avoid as it is like walking on broken glass! We went to Goran Haven which was very nice.

Mevagissey was lovely, and the kids fell in love with the pirate shop. Nice little park just as you come in to it which had a skateboard ramp which kept my 13 yr old happy.

All in all we did enjoy our stay, not sure if I would go again though as it was a bit run down/dated in places, which is a real shame as the setting is very very nice.

We stayed at this site for four nights, it was a trial for our new tent.

What a great place, very large pitches, tidy, clean and friendly staff.

The Site was ideal for families with a lovely indoor pool and additional small pool for younger children, and a ball pool area and outdoor play park.

The showers were always clean and in good condition and washing facilities were good for dishes and laundry if needed.

With Asda, B&Q and Tesco within ten minutes drive anything needed could be bought.

Booked to go back in July would recommend a stay.

It is absolutely first class. The site was lovely and clean, the pool was warm and loved by the kids and grown-ups alike. The showers were always lovely and hot. Didn't eat in the bar but beer was nice - they often have a guest ale very reasonably priced.

All the staff were very welcoming.

On the way there, the gearbox on my car broke down. We were recovered to the site and I have to say, if you are going to break down, this is the place to do it. Took my car to Gary Phillips at Hillside garage in nearby Little Polgooth. It couldn't be fixed in time so he practically gave me a car to use for the week - excellent garage if needed and highly recommended.

Following a lovely holiday, the owner of Sun Valley kindly put my caravan in storage for free until my car was fixed.

My daughter and I had another night there to collect the caravan when the car was fixed and again loved it.

The children's play area is ideal too.

There is a lovely walk from the site down alongside a little river & woodland walk to Pentewan village and beach only about 15 minutes away on foot. I can recommend the Steak platter for two (Yes I did share it) in the pub in Pentewan - called The Ship I think but it's the only pub there, nice beer garden and lovely beer. Fab icrecream shop there too.

There is a pub in Little Polgooth that also serves lovely food, and you can take your dog in with you if eating in the family room.

Pentewan beach is lovely. Sadly, although Sun Valley is dog friendly, dogs are not allowed on Pentewan beach.

There are dozens of beaches nearby for a short car drive, many dog friendly and all outstandingly clean and beautiful.

Heligan Gardens wihtin a couple of miles, Mevagissey 3 miles away and lovely - I recommend a boat trip Mackerel fishing - they leave regularly from Mevagissey harbour, my 5 year old son was thrilled with his first ever catch- 2 large mackerel on one line and they do test fresh on the BBQ within an hour or two of catching them.

Cornwalls Crealy adventure park is not too far away and good fun for the kids (I loved it too)it is a little dated in comparison to the big fun parks but still good fun - wear long sleeves and trousers though or some of the slides will leave a nasty friction burn-mine went after about 3 weeks.

To summarise - this is a fantastic, friendly quiet family run site with the benefits of a heated indoor pool. The owners, staff, and site are all faultless. We will definitely go back.If you haven't been there - put it on your list of places to go. A first class site.

What a beautiful site! Just spent the weekend here and its fabulous, friendly staff, great pool, bar, restaurant and so clean. Will definitely stay at this site again.
You can walk to Pentewen beach from the campsite (20mins) on a safe path suitable for walking, cycling and pushchairs. MacDonalds and pizza hut 4min drive, Asda 5min drive, Tesco 8min. Peaceful but everything still local!

We have recently returned from Sun Valley and could not agree more with the previous comments.

The pitches were spacious, the was site clean and tidy. The pool and club house were excellent the entertainment was fairly good as well.

The staff were helpful and friendly.

It is close to the Eden Project which I can recommend as a must.

The only down side is the long journey to get there but that is not the fault of the site.

We will be definitely be returning but leaving home earlier

We (a family of four with children 7 and 10) have just returned from a two week holiday at Sun Valley. The pitches are specious and there is certainly no over crowding on this site. There are mainly static caravans with a camping / touring area for about 20 ish units. The facilities are excellent with a great pool, club house, basic shop and en-suite bathrooms.

The staff are extremely helpful from the minute you arrive and they take you to your individual pitch. They are also always on hand to help when they aren't busy cleaning and tidying the site (it is spotless).

The British weather couldn't be relied on and we had about 6 days of dry weather - the pitch got a little waterlogged and we believe that the owners are going to make some of the pitches hard standing for next year which will help with the drainage.

Pentewan village is quite small and picturesque, but there isn't very much there and there is a bit of a walk to the shingle beach (a bit hard on the feet)!

We found Carhaeys Beach the best there are ok facilities including toilets and a beach cafe there and the surf is good for the kids to play/board in.

St Austell is about 2 miles from the site and there you will find numerous large supermarkets, a cinema and bowling alley for those rainy days.

Mevagissey is a couple of miles in the opposite direction and is a beautiful fishing harbour with lots of little shops and eateries. We ate in the Sharksfin on the front where you can eat the fresh catches of the day.

We also visited St Ives (nice but really busy), falmouth (large town)and padstow (fishing harbour)all really nice but as you might expect given the time of year they were busy.

We would all recommend this site. The children didn't want to come home leaving all the friends behind that they had made.
