Second camp of the year saw us visit Ynysymaengwyn a couple of years after the last visit. There has been some landscaping done to the woods near the site which make for a great walk. The bluebells and wild garlic flowers looked stunning.
The site itself was pretty quiet given the early season so we had no trouble finding a pitch with EHU. The rooks in the trees near where we camped were on form (read noisy) from early morning but after a couple of nights we didn't notice them.
The shower block was clean. The hot water boiler did pack up on the bank holiday Sunday but all credit to the site they somehow managed to get someone to fix it.
There isn't a shop on site but Tywyn is only a two minute drive away for supplies. Warning: if you have kids you will have to drive past the honey bear ice cream factory and will be pestered for one. Don't fight it, go and get one. They are delicious! The beach at Aberdovey is about 10 minutes drive away is superb.
The kids had a great time making and playing with new friends. The playground looks as though its been improved since our last visit. Very impressive.
We'd recommend the site to anyone. Not commercial at all but that's perfect for us!

Site as described, clean and tidy. Showers and toilets clean although take own loo paper can run out late at night. Managers friendly and helpful although reception only open for a few hours. Set in a beautiful location, You can watch the sun rise over the mountains and set over the sea.
Fantastic location for a walking holiday, the town is not far away and has all the shops you need from tent supplies to clothes. A van comes round every morning with papers, milk and bread, although only saw it once as we were always out walking up mountains or along the coast.
Would recommend it to families and couples alike. Great holiday will be returning.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for our first camping trip. I found the site nice and peaceful and had everything we would need for a couple of nights camping.
My girlfriend however (doesn't do camping) found it a bit on the minimal side. There were prevailing winds and rain on the first day but that was due to hurricane Bill.
There are stunning views of the valley across from the site. Tywyn is approx 5 minutes drive away which has a few shops, chip shops and pubs. The promenade has crazy golf and a putting green so it's an I deal site with plenty to do in the area.
I would recommend this site to anyone who wants to get away from it all and relax.

This is a nice camp site. The previous reviews I've read have been honest so I hope mine is no different. In addition to all the other positive comments given I should like to add that The Bin Men came around twice whilst we were here - Mon & Thur so there was no rubbish to talk of but...
I wish there were more recycling facilities on site.
There is little to add except to note that there are laundry facilities on the static site which I imagine can be used by tourers as long as you have a key to access the facilities. (There is a launderette in Tywyn if need be).
Bus stops directly outside the site entrance buses run to Dollgellau or Tywyn or Aberystwyth. The services are not very frequent but run to time in our experience.
The Talyllyn Steam Train stops at Fach Goch - a request stop - which is about a 5 minutes walk from the campsite. 'Saves a lot of leather'

We stayed here for the first time Aug 09 Bank Holiday - we had booked electric hook up for 5 days and on arrival office was closed and no electric hook up appeared available - we had to wait for the owner to come - she pitched us in between two caravans in very tight spot - and the one caravan occupant was not very happy. Other than that we loved this site and will be returning. It would just help if the pitches were marked out and reserved markers placed on.
Fantastic setting and ideal base for visiting other parts of Wales - it rained almost continually whilst we were there - we put our wellies on and made the most of it and was one of the best holidays we have had camping.

We arrived at 4.00p.M. The message on the door said reception was open from 5.30 but that we should find a pitch and pay later (although this did not apply to summer). We went off and found a pitch anyway. The field was quite full - this is a popular site. The field is flat and well grassed with some hookups although we did not need one.
The facilities are quite new, plenty of hot water and cleaned regularly. It is not a big field so you are never too far away. There is no shop. Don't forget your own toilet roll, there was none left by the evening.
The view from our pitch was incredible, this site really is set in fantastic countryside. However, it does directly adjoin the main road and noise from traffic was intrusive until about midnight. It is a family site and general disturbances went on until about 10.00 p.M.
There is a great play ground which our daughter (7) greatly enjoyed. It was a 5 minute drive to teh sea front in Tywyn.

Lovely friendly site, good facilities but not always perfectly clean and the sign asking you to use mop and bucket is an excellent idea but the mop and bucket needs to be there to use.
Will return as children's play area good and only quick journey to Aberdovey for excellent beach and town.

This was our first visit to this campsite and we had a fantastic holiday. Lovely, helpful, laid back staff although be warned that the office only opens 2 hours a day, 0930-1030 & 1730-1830.
Camping field is nice and flat with fantastic views of the surrounding hills although I wouldn’t recommend pitching your tent in the middle of the field. We had a bad night of rain during our stay and woke up to find huge puddles surrounding our tent. If the rain hadn’t have stopped we would have had to move our tent. Thankfully the rain stopped and the puddles had disappeared after returning from being out all day.
There is a nice children’s play area although it’s not on the camping field so it wasn’t used as much as it could have been. There was, however, a rope swing on the camping field which our children had hours of entertainment from (be prepared for mucky clothes)
There is a selection of walks to do around the site, details on the information board near the play area. We never found the time to do it though. Very close to Tywyn, Aberdovey, Steam Railway and you cannot leave without visiting Tywyn's famous honey ice-cream shop mm mm!
I did find the road noise a little too loud for my liking and there were crows in the surrounding trees that seemed to caw for hours, very irritating. I was informed by a gentleman on site that the crows had young and they would be gone in a couple of weeks?
No shop on site although a van arrives on site approx 1030 selling bread, milk, newspapers, sweets etc.
Lovely, hot showers. Toilets could get a little dirty at times and toilet roll/handwash didn’t seem to be replenished often enough. Code needed to get into the toilet block. 2 washing-up sinks with plenty of hot water. Never had to queue but the site wasn’t full.
We would return again.

Went to this site as friends have a static caravan on site. Despite the glorious weather there was plenty of room on the touring field. There are EHU but only round the outside and all these were taken so went old school and did without.
The pitches were lovely and flat and easy to peg. There was a little noise till about 11 then was quiet. There was plenty of space on the field for kids to play without disturbing other families.
The toilet block has free hot water and was great. You can adjust the temperature which was nice as some sites you cant adjust it so you either freeze or remove you skin in a torrent of scalding water. Not a good thing for those that have kids.
The site doesn't have a shop but there is a small van that comes round in the morning with milk, papers etc. Tywyn is a 5 minute drive away which has a reasonable range of shops should you need anything. There is also the Honey bear ice cream shop a minutes drive away which the kids loved (and we did too!).
Absolutely loved the site and looking forward when we can get back there again.

Wonderful setting, easy to find just outside Twyn.
Large field for tourers - only a few vans there in late April.
Totally laid back at reception - pay then or in the morning, hassle free.
Field next door full of sheep and lambs - kids loved that.
Site once occupied by old manor house, lovely woodland walk around former house site.
Loads of space.
Spotless and large playground for kids.
Only £13 for the night for the camper.
No complaints, great setting, tranquil and clean.
Highly recommended.
