We have been camping on this site for the last two years and this will be our third. The site is Local Authority owned and therefore very well-kept. The site is level and the grass is cut on a regular basis, and last year a number of new electrical hook-ups were added. The touring site is actually by the main road, which is separated by a stone wall. It can therefore be noisy if you happen to be camped by the wall. Heavy lorries and farm machinery use this road regularly, day and night, and it can be a little on the noisy side, however good a sleeper you are. However, if you take along ear plugs you should be all right. The strange thing is though, if you are camped even just one row in, the noise is reduced considerably, and if you are camped on the other side of the field you don’t notice the traffic noise at all. It is certainly not a good enough reason to put you off going there. The toilet facilities are more than adequate, with about 7 or 8 toilets in each, a row of sinks, and three showers. The facilities are good, though by the end of the day they start to get a bit grubby and the toilet paper sometimes runs out, particularly during busy times. They could do with being cleaned twice a day rather than once in the morning. The toilet facilities are entered by means of an access code which is given to you when you first register. The disadvantage here is that if you arrive when the reception is closed, you are unable to access them unless a kind person lets you in or tells you the combination. There is also an Elsan disposal point and two large sinks for washing up, and the water is VERY hot and never seems to run out. There are also stand-pipes for fresh water dotted around the site, so you never have to walk too far to fill up your water carrier. There is a forest bordering the campsite and therefore lots of trees, in which live a very noisy bird population. Around 6.00 every morning the cawing of the crows can wake you up, and they don’t shut up until about 9.00! However, that’s all part of the fun. If you expect absolute peace and quiet, don’t go camping. Every morning around 10.00 a van comes to the site, selling newspapers and essentials like bread and milk, which is extremely handy as the site has no shop to speak of (except a few items in the main reception), and it’s quite a nice thing to look forward to. We love this site and since discovering it, haven’t been anywhere else. The area has everything we want, good walks, the mountains, great restaurants (particularly the Talyllyn Hotel and the Indian restaurant in Tywyn), great beaches at Tywyn and Aberdovey, and of course the famous Talyllyn steam railway for our little boy. For ourselves it's also very easy to get to on a Friday evening as it's only a two hour drive from where we live!
