Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of August on a prebooked superpitch, we found the pitch we were allocated to be very spacious. Just one thing to note how some of the pitches are set you may need a longer waste hose to reach the drain. The staff we met were all courteous and friendly. We had lunch in the cafe one day to use the free wifi, just a sandwich and tea, but freshly made to order and very nice. On the Sunday our daughter and son in law came through and we were not charged for them visiting which a lot of sites do. Hubby and son in law had a go on the driving range and found it to be very good value. The shower facilities were very good, secure with key entry (for which you pay a 5. 00 refundable deposit) and absolutely spotless. The only drawback for us was that there was no shop on site and nothing really within walking distance but there is a chippy and 2 or 3 pubs in Strensall and a petrol station with shop. We had a meal at the Half Moon in Strensall, which was very nice. All in all a very nice, clean, peaceful, friendly site that we will gladly revisit at some point.

After reading the reviews we very much looked forward to staying at this site and booked for 6 nights. We would rather our stay had been shorter.
It is a bare field site (photo's give the impression of flowering plants and landscaping)
The shower facilities are adequate (not luxury) and are clean. Had quite a chill wind blowing through the shower control into the cubicle. Some tiles were broken and the grouting looked as though it had been applied by a trainee. Photo's give the impression of a bright, light and airy space - in reality the washrooms are quite dark.
There was one domestic washer/dryer available (surprising considering the number of potential guests) linked to a meter - always had to put in more money than was really required to ensure the program finished.
The location suited us for its proximity to York.
The nearby firing range is audible - but did not bother us.
The management dealt with slightly rowdy guests efficiently.
The owners and staff were efficient but we did not find them particularly friendly. No one made any attempt at conversation.
Unfortunately this is not a site we would be in any hurry to re-visit. It did not live up to our expection.

We have just spent the weekend here at york touring park, brilliant ! that's it review over.
Ok a little more depth then brilliant! close enough for everything and yet far enough away from all the hustle and bustle. We stayed at this site primarily to go bacj to the NRM ( national railway museum ) we are not train spotters far from it how ever we could highly recommend a day out here.
Back to the site, its spotless and has everything you'll need. We even had a go at football golf and what a laugh we had £2 each then £1 each there after. Access to the site is easy being only 1 mile from the A64, however leaving the site we turned left end of road left again ( this runs parallel with the A64 ) left onto the york ring road and we followed the signs for Leeds back home, I did this although it was slightly longer the roads was good but I was extremely reluctant to try and cross the busy A64 Sunday afternoon with on coming traffic with the caravan in tow and getting up to speed ?
All in all we had a wonderful weekend away here and looking forward to our next time in York so we can book in here again without any hesitation. Great site well run keep up the hard work it shows.

Used this site several times but on this occasion it appears to have deteriorated. All one section of the site had been taken over by travellers who had a minimum of 2 vehicles per caravan where the rules state 1 vehicle per van. Most sites do not take travellers and this will certainly make us think hard about using this site again. Site normally very quite but. Not on this occasion. Needs to have site management making an appearance now and again to check all is ok. Would be good if when leaving site you were asked for feedback about your stay.
|
Management response: Thank you for your review
We would like to make it clear we do not accept travellers on site or commercial vehicles, unfortunately on this occasion two caravans pulled by cars that had pre booked and paid by credit card arrived, booked in and pitched up, however they then let in two other caravans pulled by two vans. It was at this point we asked them to leave which they wouldn't, we took advice from the police and they all vacated the site after the three days they had originally booked for.
We have taken your advice about asking for feedback when guests depart and all staff have now been asked to do so as well as providing guests with a form that they can provide comments anonymously if they like.

We stayed at this site for 4 nights at spring bank holiday. We were met on arrival by the owner; Graham who was really helpful and friendly.
The facilities were spotless, showers/toilets cleaned daily and overall the site was clean. We had an issue with our pitch due to the horrendous weather. When we asked if there was another pitch available they moved us without question and even lent us an electric hook up cable as our wasn't long enough when we moved.
The toilets require a key which you have to pay a £5 deposit.
The site is about 6 miles out of York, but easily accessible via a park and ride. Strensall is 5 minutes drive away with a Tesco express and shop at the petrol station. The site itself is in a lovely countryside location, with a bridal path running alongside the golf course so it's easy to access. Be warned though, it's very muddy after heavy rain as we found out when we went cycling.
The only thing we'll do differently next time is take our 70cc motorbike with us so that we can leave the van and go further afield. We didn't this time as the site T&C's said no scooters, but when we asked they said it meant children's electric scooters and remote control cars etc.
We would definitely visit again and highly recommend the site as we felt welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.

This site is in a great location, being so close to York City Centre, which is accessible from the Park and Ride at Monk's Cross.
The site itself was OK, nothing special. I felt like a second-class citizen, being in the separate tent field. It was a hassle having to remember to take the key to the toilet block (£10 refundable deposit).
You will need a torch here as the lighting is poor.
The farm shop up the road was lovely. Really fresh local produce.
We didn't eat at the campsite cafe, but did enjoy a gorgeous mealvat The Ship at Strensall.
Would agree with other comments about customer service, but you could hardly hear any noise from the firing range, half a mile away.

We visited this site recently, and found it a great site. The amenities were second to none, so clean and well kept. We found there were a lot of caravans sited there and the people were so friendly to us. The golf course was a bonus as our husbands play golf, while us ladies went shopping in the nearby Monks Cross shopping park, We were central to everything and only 10 minutes away from York which was lovely, we will certainly be using this site again

This site had great description of the disabled toilet/shower facilities which is why we booked but was disappointed getting through the door meant doing a three point turn anyone needing to do side transfer to wc would not be able to due to lack of space getting from wheelchair into shower unaided due to lack of space another problem plus when I went on a few occasions children were using them obviously to save parents having to take them, others using toilet just to save getting key out, had to ask for a can of air freshener as when I went someone just coming out and let's just say they left a bad smell and dirty toilet behind, my husband did ask about having the door locked but apparently the site had been informed that disabled toilets could not be locked but other sites and public toilets use the Radar Key System I would have willingly have paid a deposit to know that the toilet would have been respected by other visitors. The disposal point for chemical loo system part was broken, so a bucket was provided to flush the toilet. There was a washing machine and dryer although we didn't use them. The rest of the site was fine although the children's play area seemed to consist of a log and table to climb on, not what I would call a play area, the sound from the army firing range didn't disturb us at all would recommend that torches are used as sight lighting was a bit hit and miss.
We didn't use the coffee shop, not far from York park and ride to go into York, good location for getting to east coast etc.
Golfers would enjoy this site as it is part of a golf course.

Quite a nice little site but got the feeling that nobody really cared about site / visitors. Only saw staff at golf shop reception when arriving / paying for golf / leaving. Never saw anyone checking round site for conditions / problems.
Having said that no major problems with pitch, services or toilets.
Plenty of grass areas for kids and of course golf for those that wanted it as we'll as putting.
Reception / shop also had small cafe for coffee and snacks so quite handy.
Handy for visiting York and a park and ride not far away.
Overall not bad but wouldn't fight to get back on it again.

Park up and go to golf course reception to check in and get shower block keys (£10 refundable dep). Pitches well spaced and some of them are supersite pitches. Shower blocks ok but had to wait for a mother to finish showering her 3 kids in the disabled shower despite signs saying for disabled only. Easy to reach York centre. Didn't use the golf course coffee shop. Heard a heated argument between 2 other pitches late at night which was quite nasty. There was no one to contact but later found out the owners were in the large house next door but we didn't see anyone throughout our stay. Small dog walking field but we also used used the bridleway alongside golf course with dog on lead. It is a family site but there is no play area for children. Maybe not so great for kids but fine for us.
