Great site, well kept, not over policed but its clear the owners keep an eye on things and that pays dividends to suit the majority.
I have never found the facilities on our visits to be anything other than clean and user friendly.
Staff and owners helpful and friendly. Tried to help us out when we were short of a piece of waste hose, couldn't so directed us to the nearest supplier.
York is very handy with lots to do, Strensall common is extensive and perfect dog walking countryside. The Blacksmiths at Flaxton did excellent food last time we were in.
I really don't understand where some of the negatives have come from:
'No shops nearby', youve got 24hr supermarkets within 4 miles and local village shops closer.
'water 30m away' the pitches with the taps etc cost more. If theyre empty and you pay you can go on them.
And on the subject of open areas for kids, no ball games allowed around the vans. Suits us perfectly.

We wanted a site near York and found this little gem. It's a small site with mainly seasonal caravans which meant it was very quiet when we were there which is just what we like.
We checked in at the driving range clubhouse and whilst we didn't use the facilities, you could get hot drinks and snacks there if you wanted.
There is a code-operated barrier leading onto a well-maintained site, surrounded by trees. The shower/toilet block was next to the barrier and was always spotlessly clean. The washing up area consists of a wooden shelter outside the shower/toilet block and it could do with being swept down. The rubbish bin was also a bit grubby.
Inside the shower cubicles, there is also a wash basin which is fine for having a strip-down wash in private but there was no mirror above the basin which would have been useful.
The drive to York was easy, although it can get congested during the peak times. There is a lovely cafe/farm shop just up the road from the site (The Farmers Cart) and we had a superb breakfast there on our last morning. We bought a lot of fruit, vegetables and meat and it was all top quality produce. There is a children's area there too, so well worth a visit.
We have stayed at this park twice now and is ideal as a base for getting in to York. We feel it is a bit over-priced in comparison with other sites with similar facilities but we're probably paying for being close to York.

A great campsite! The toilet blocks were always clean no matter what time of day you went, site well kept. Great having the driving range on site, especially after everything is packed up when your heading home and don't want to leave.
The tent area is well sheltered with huge trees, although perfect for big noisy crows to sit in during the early hours of the morning. Not a moan as that's what camping is all about, the great outdoors.
If I had one very small moan it would be that even if you are in a tent they would like you to lift the groundsheet during the day. Very difficult as normally they are all built into the tent these days and also it would be a real pain to move all the stuff every morning and night.
It should be expected that during the main season the grass won't be tip top condition. I can understand it in a caravan awning but not a tent. Luckily we didn't have to do it as we were only there 4 days.
Overall we had a great time, the site is easy to find with very easy access to all places of interest. A big Sainsbury and Asda close by. Also a Toby carvery. We did the ghost walk which was ok, the bloke kept in character and was funny, but not sure it was worth the money. The York museum is worth a visit and you can be in there a few hours and not know it.
York is a lovely place to visit and I'm sure we'll be going back.

Fantastic clean and quiet site. Loved the fact that you could get a hot sandwich and drink at the golf course next door.
Fully recommend this site but be warned it's some distance from a shop or pub etc. I didn't see a bus pass the site so I can't say if there is public transport or not.
If your looking for a base for York and the surrounding area this would be ideal. Staff were friendly and helpful although I didn't see anyone patrol the site, which didn't matter as there appeared to be no problems.
As an ex-soldier who did basic training at Strensall the distant sound of the shooting ranges only brought back great memories.
Will be going again.

Stayed 3 nights recently and used the Site as a Base Camp for York. Friendly Staff with Spotless Facilities also has a smashing Golf Course and Driving Range adjacent to the Site.
The Reception also doubles up as a Golf Shop and serves Snacks and Beverages in the Conservatory with Free Wifi.
Only downside was I had Booked a Super Pitch for the space and a level pitch for easy set up. The pitch was far from level and felt a bit hemmed in. York was great.
Done the Bus Trip which was historically very interesting. Friendly people with great Pub Grub. You must do a Ghost Tour and go for a pint the Black Swan. The most haunted pub in York.

Slightly annoyed that there seemed to be plenty of empty pitches available that had water and electric hook up points within 10 feet of your caravan (eg you could plug water directly into your van), but the one allocated to us did not. The nearest water point to our pitch 33 was about 30 foot away. Having had my grumble now the positives, site very well maintained clean toilet block and showers. There is a golf course and a driving range and a little cafe that does snacks. We went to the park and ride to visit york £2. 30 each for a return ticket, all in all a nice weekend

Spent bank hol weekend here after frantic last minute attempts to find somewhere, this site came up trumps.
Met by the owner and guided to pitch, which was a decent size.
The toilet block was clean all in all very good.
On the downside its very close to the firing range we could still hear shooting at 11. 40pm one night.
There were a few vans pitched there for the season, and the owner seemed to take advantage of those pitches not being in use over the busy weekend as we saw motorhomes being placed on same pitch as the van!
Lovely farm shop nearby, the farmers cart, is well worth a visit, if not for the food, just to see the animals! Strensall is nearby and we did try the chinese takeaway, it was fab!
A nice little site if you don't mind the odd evenings of shooting from the firing range!

Spent a week at this site. Very clean and tidy. Good size pitch. Showers and toilets spotless. Dishwashing area had plenty of hot water.
Downside - Although we were told we could have just one car per pitch, we did think we could unpack the cars before moving one, however, we were asked to move the unpacked car immediately which I thought was a bit picky, especially as the site was almost empty so we were not crowding into anyone else's space.
The dog walk is small and is across the road from the army training ground. My dog is gun shy which meant I couldn't walk her when they were training (which was every day that we were there).

Visited the site on last minute booking and how pleased we were.
Arrived at site met by friendly helpful staff who directed us to our pitch.
Site is immaculately kept.
We stayed on serviced pitch that was large and adequate for our tourer, car and large porch awning.
Facilities very well kept and always clean.
Site is situated from military range but not a lot of noise came from that, only the occasional muffled bag, not intrusive.
Site has use of a small coffee bar/café/shop that had a reasonable range of food and beverages.
Excellent base for exploring York and its attractions.
We will be returning at some stage for another stay.

Just had 2 nights at York Touring Caravan site and we will definitely be going back. The site is absolutely spotless, well laid out and the facilities are immaculate.
We had a serviced pitch and the service point was placed exactly right for the side of the van. The pitch was level and had bags of room.
There are only 20 vans so the shower block is ideal with 3 showers so no waiting around and when you get out of the shower the heating means you don't freeze to death.
There is no site shop so take whatever you need with you but there are loads of shops within walking distance in Haxby / Strensall. York is just a short drive or bus ride away.
There are quite a few rules to read but they are intended to ensure you enjoy your stay. We will be going back to this small and friendly site.
