We have now been to this campsite twice and both times have been welcomed with a warm and a friendly smile. The relaxed atmosphere set in the most beautiful countryside makes for a very worthwhile camping experience be it one night or more. Children loved the play park and plenty of area to play ball games and also stream nearby to go plodging ! Toilets and showers were kept clean ! Visited lovely pub in village rose and thistle and also visited clennel hall bar area which were both very child friendly and welcoming. Will look forward to returning soon.

A bit expensive at £13 for 1 person tent but in the lovely Coquetdale and no other sites in the dale.
Very flat camping field hidden away from the caravans. Toilets are dated but do the job. Hot shower no extra charge.
There is a bar in Clennel Hall next door. Had 1 drink and found it a bit odd and the glass was filthy so walked the easy mile to Alwinton and visited the Rose and Thistle, which is a friendly pub with good food.
The price puts me off but the area is fabulous for walking so likely to return.

We have been 2 times to this site once last year and again last week 15th june, both weekend stays have been so relaxing I'm planing my next trip.
The site is so out there for walks, bike rides or just lazzing about, the couple who run the campsite are lovly and very helpful.
We found the toilet blocks clean and tidy and loads of hot water and the grounds tidy with short grass ideal for tents.
Well worth a visit 10 out of 10

Lovely location, and helpful site wardens, but website says £6 for serviced pitch - we got EHU only, which at £6 per night is a total rip-off, as well as on 2nd night, there was a power failure!
Toilets grubby and basic, but location wins out, so if you want a peaceful scenic location, you can do no better.

Just spent good Friday at this campsite and had a great time. The owners are lovely and were very friendly and made us feel really welcome.
The campsite is in beautiful surroundings and there are loads of walks from the site.
Facilities are basic but clean and this really suited us. Campsite was quiet and had lovely relaxed feel to it.
Went to clennel hall for food on the night and it we all had eyemouth fish and chips which were delicious. Dog as long as he behaved was allowed in the bar and everyone was friendly.
We hope to return at end of may :-)

Stayed for two nights with two children aged 10 and 8yrs. The site is a gem, quiet no phone, no wifi it was bliss.
Toilet block a little dated but clean and hot water every time. Spent the time with some friends and their children. They were in tents and appeared happy with the pitches.
We went for a lovely walk and had been going to have a swift half at the local in Alwinton however it didn't like dogs not even in the beer garden. We returned to the site and hopped over to Clennell Hall where the reception was far more welcoming from Rocky and his staff.
Children spent their time happily playing by the little stream and exploring the play area. The big garden at Clennel Hall was a plus too for the kids to run around whilst we tasted the local ales.
A little expensive having to add on for awning and EHU.
We will be back!

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at this site and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Like others have said the staff are friendly as are the staff in the Hall next to the tent field.
We don't use electric and thought it was good value at £20 a night for our large tent. The ladies loo/shower area does flood (no idea why?) but I still managed to use it ok.
The children's play area was well populated and seemed a good place for the children to meet up but my two just played games in the tent field.
The only downside for us was the fact the sheep were so very noisy and this stopped us sleeping. Other campers said they had camped here before and hadn't found them to be like this and were unsure why? We'd still go back but with our earplugs next time!
No phone signal wasn't a problem to us. We got one when we visited Rothbury and Cragside. But personally I think it's nice to get totally away from it all.

We made a last minute booking for this site. We have a Hi Gear Sahara tent which is huge - the campsite initially wanted to charge us £35 per night but then relented and charged us the standard rate of £20 p/n + £5. 50 p/n for electric hookup + £8 for an extra car (total £59 for 2 nights) - the dog went free
The site was easy to find using the maps on the iPhone - however be aware that there is very little mobile coverage up there and we lost our phone signal from appx 10 miles out (Rothbury). Luckily we had taken photos of the map sequence
Tents at Clennell Hall are on a separate field right next to the Clennell Hall Country House and Bar which was great for proximity. The staff there were super friendly and accommodating and children are welcome until 9pm. The pitches were roomy and situated around the circumference of the field leaving a massive amount of space for the children to play and run around in.
Take plenty of insect repellent as the place was swarming with midges in the early evening.
The shower/toilet/wash-up area was a short walk away. They were a little grubby and tired looking but not bad enough to be put off using them. The showers were hot and reasonably powerful. There was only 2 sinks for wash-up which was fine when there was only 3 tents pitched on the field but probably would be a bit of a pain when the field is full.
Our children (6 & 9) thoroughly enjoyed the kids play area which was very well equipped and situated next to the shower block. They also really enjoyed just mucking around on the tent field which even though it rained was well drained and dry in no time.
The area is great for walking/cycling but there is very little else to do other than chill out (perfect for us). There is a stream near by for plodging. There was no O2 signal at all on the site but we found free wifi in the bar.
The beautiful town of Rothbury was only a 15 minute drive away - we bought the most amazing gourmet sausages from the local butcher. Rothbury has a Co-op and a variety of small shops that sell everything that you may have forgotten to bring along or have run out of.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others.

I visited this site with my partner as we were planning a walk in the local area. The site, in Alwinton, is beautiful, and in the grounds of Clennel Hall Hotel, which I understand has a bar and restaurant where non residents can get food. The site mainly caters for caravans, but the campsite was quite secluded and surrounded by trees.
The warden was very helpful and friendly on arrival, and the site itself was fairly empty, even though this was the first week of the school holidays. It suited us fine though.
The toilet block was clean if not a little dated, however the floor in the ladies had a large puddle all the time we were there, presumably from the showers. This didn't spoil my time though as it was so peaceful.
There is also a nice play area for children.
After a lovely walk up to Drake Stone in Harbottle (a lovely walk with stunning views), we visited the pub in Harbottle itself which doubles up as a general dealer. Both Harbottle and Alwinton are very picturesque but don't expect your mobile phone to work! Being surrounded by fells doesn't lend itself to a good mobile signal. All in all, this was like stepping back in time, and very enjoyable. I would definitely visit this site again.

Stayed here for two nights. Good location with plenty of walks from the site. Shower block looks very uninviting from outside, but although dated, clean and plenty of hot water.
Personally we do not really like sites with lots of statics, but as we wanted to visit the area we had no choice. It was midweek and we had the place to ourselves, so it was very quiet.
The highlight of our stay was seeing two red squirrels on the fence next to our pitch.
It would have been good to have had information in the wardens office re walks in the area and a map.
We did get some good information from the new owner of the hotel, adjacent to the site, re walks.
I think the charge for electric is far too expensive at £5. 50 per night, the most expensive we have encountered by far, on top of an £18 pitch fee.
The playground looked well equipped for young children.
Lack of shops in the area is a problem. Would be good if basics like milk and bread were available on site.
