We went to Lakeside last weekend and it was a beautiful site. As its name suggests it was situated beside a lovely lake with lots of swans, ducks and other bird life some of which came into the camp which was interesting.
The warden was really helpful on arrival and all amenities were good.
Brightlingsea itself was a short walk away and had lots of attractions including 8 pubs.
There was a brilliant cafe nearby where you could get reasonably priced cooked breakfasts and other meals/snacks.

This was my first camping trip ever and I was apprehensive to say the least but the owners of the site were really helpful and welcoming to us and our children.
We had a pitch next to the lake which was nice as the kids could go crabbing which was fun and there were plenty of other things to do close by too. I think this is a 'it is what you make it' kind of holiday.
The atmosphere on the site was happy and there were no complaints although my friend did say she thought it a little expensive.
I agree with the other reviews about the showers but they were kept clean every day and apart from in need of a bit of updating were not as bad as I had imagined them to be.
All in all a good first experience of camping in a tent.

Shower block clean but very old and as per other posts still only a trickle of water in showers. Low watt fuses means electrics tripping all the time. Pitches piled on top of each other. Local kids had wrecked the awning of a caravan left there by owners and friends had stuffed nicked whilst there. By a pleasant boating lake but this causes midges and being open means any wind and tents really struggle to stay up. Local town is fine. If you want a corner shop or a thrift shop.

Well we stayed here again this year, excellent position, toilet block still the same condition. Were charged £20 per night for 2 people, £6 per extra person, and was made to leave site by 11:00. Too many rules here including where to park, only tents allowed near the lake, why - I paid more than the tents. Positive side, hook was good.

Well, this little site has a lot going for it. The prom is within walking distance of the site (just through a carpark and along the back of some beach huts)- great crabbing for the kids.
There was an outdoor swimming pool nearby that seemed really popular. Town is only a 10 min stroll away for supplies.
The site is fairly basic but has the facilities you need (although they could do with a bit of an update).
The owners live on site so are always to hand, and were friendly on our arrival.

Having stayed at this site in the past, I knew roughly what to expect - the lake and surrounding areas along the front at Brightlingsea are lovely and the crab fishing is still as good!
Was totally disgusted that from last year,we were charged an extra £12 per night! That was £93 for 2 adults and 3 children for 3 nights! Had we not have already pitched our tent and unpacked,we would not have stayed!
Despite the majority of the reviews on here saying that the toilets and showers needed bringing back to life, other than the odd touch up of paint here and there, the facilities were just the same (even the grubby mats outside the showers!)
It's a big shame that the site seemed really run down this year compared to last year. The final straw was when the toilets were locked as admittedly, we were late in leaving, but all children need a wee before they head off home!
Needless to say,we wont be staying at this site again but fortunately, we live close enough to Brightlingsea itself for the occasional day visit!

Park location was excellent and found the park wardens very helpful. However the park was on the small side so children cycling was not allowed. The park was very tidy however the shower and toilet facilities were totally unsatisfactory and in dire need of modernisation. This was a major disappointment as we would like to have visited this park again in the future due to its location. The wardens couldn't be more hard working to benefit visitors but were let down by those horrible showers! Hopefully in time this problem will be rectified.

Stayed here last weekend nice position close to the sea and right next to a boating lake, however you are not allowed to park here if you have a motor home??? They are probably the nicest pitches.
Enjoyed our stay however I think it is a bit expensive for what it is, it cost £20 this was for a motor home and 2 people and another £6 pound for my daughter. Nothing on the site other than a phone box and a toilet block, I agree with previous reviews the toilet block needs modernising! The showers have no pressure you need to run around to get wet. The owners are very nice, however quite a few ridged rules, you must reverse onto pitch so we faced opposite our friends and away from the boating lake, you MUST be off this site by 12:00.
After saying all this I would use again

Have just been first time camping and chose this site.
A bit pricey, but a good location and everything within walking distance. Good for children, as the crabbing is excellent, also a very cold open air pool, and boating lake within easy access.
We were lucky enough to have fantastic camping neighbours both side of our spot, so the weekend went very well.A bit blustery at times but would recommend it.
The toilet block etc are basic, so don't expect the ritz!
But it was a good first time experience for us, and we would go back We have boys of 2 and 11, and they enjoyed it.
Shops are close i.E tesco express and coop, and we went the social club in evening across the road, for pool and cheap drinks.Clacton not far either

This was our 2nd visit here and I have to say that this time the tents were packed in far too tightly and our electric lead had to be run across the road on the site, not satisfactory at all.
Those of us leaving on the day were told promptly to leave the site on time or face another days charge, which was not acceptable, as we were already packed up and ready to go.
I feel that the people running this site have really had enough now and don't have the rapport with the customers, needless to say we wont be using this site again.
