We used the site for our annual VW club camp out. Site was OK with everybody placed together. The owners were very pleasant to deal with, only fright I got was in the gents at 0500 and finding him there doing checks. The loos were a bit dated but serviceable. The owners took a couple of turns around the site during the weekend but were not intrusive in anyway. There is an excellent Curry restaurant a 5 minute walk away. The Railway pub is a place to be seen as it is in development and is very scruffy at the moment! We went when the free music festival was on and is highly recommended.

I also nearly didn't book this site because of the previous reviews, but I am so glad I did. We arrived quite late on the friday night which the owner didn't mind at all and pitched our tent right opposite the lake which was lovely. The whole area was peaceful and the campsite was 1 minute from the sea front. The on-site facilities (toilet/shower block) were a little dated but comfortable. The owner was incredibly hospitable and laid back as we were able to pay and leave when we liked and we hardly saw him at all (unlike the other reviews). This was our first time to Brightlingsea and the Clacton area and we have fallen in love with the place. Brightlingsea was so quiet with great beaches, nature walks and cafe shops with everything you need. There was a sunday car boot sale which was nice and also the foot ferry was in use which took us on a trip around the marina and over to Mersea. On our second day we took the 20 minute drive to Clacton and spent the day there enjoying the sun, beaches (especially at Jaywick) and the pier! My only critisism is that the price is a little a high (£14 per night) and there is a community hall which I think serves as a youth centre, which got quite noisy with teenagers and music on friday/saturday night. But other than that, I think because the location of the campsite is so good and central and waking up to ducks on the lake combined with the smell of the sea, we would definitely go there again.

Almost didn't use this campsite because of previous reviews. However, after using it I'm pleased to say what a lovely place this is.i must admit the prices are a little more than I'm used to but not extortionate. The site is well located right on the water front and the reports the warden patrols the site is taken in the wrong context - he does a morning round to check on security and tents that haven't paid - just makes common sense! All in all a lovely place to stay, recommend it to anyone!

I would like to echo the previous reviewer. The campsite is very nicely situated, very near the sea and with a lovely view over a small lake and if you have children it is very near to a skateboard / cycle park. Unfortunately I don't think the warden likes campers, he prowled the site frequently and because of the list of donts one felt he was looking for something to complain about, this made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. As for the advertised 'modern toilet and shower block', it might have been modern once but by today's standards it should be shut down as a health hazard.

Excellent site. Friendly owners. Great for kids. We will be coming back. Loved the town and near to Colchester and Clacton. The toilet block was clean and tidy. Good level site near to the lido and sea paddling pool. There were shops and a chippie nearby.

A nice little site let down by the owner who never left anyone alone, he patrolled the site all day long. Each new arrival was greeted with a list of don't dos and everything was covered in notices telling you what you were not allowed to do. The final straw was when he told the children they could not go into the showers dirty as they would clog the drains. A real shame as the site is nicely situated and the facilities are OK if a little dated. Beware of the extras to be charged on top of the £15.50 per night, children, dogs, visitors, cars are all extra and £15.50 rapidly becomes £25.00 per night.

I fell in love with the town earlier on in the year and decided to go camping there with my 6yr old daughter in the summer. The campsite was fantastically situated and we were able to set up our tent opposite the lake. I found both the owners very helpful and hospitable. They were great with children as they were given free lollies. in fairness I have been to other campsites with better facilities but this campsite did meet our needs for the basics. I plan to go back this year and would recommend this campsite for people who are looking for peace and tranquillity!

Nice site, fantastic location, a bit let down by facilities. Not extremely clean, but all working ok. Site can be rather cramped, but we went at peak time. Location is hard to beat - sandwiched between town, small boating lake and marina. Just 5 minutes from the beautiful Lido. Marina has a fab chip shop. Coop and Spar seem to be always open in the town as do the many pubs. My husband is a real ale person and LOVED the Railway Arms. Children will adore this site and location, theres a small sea pond on the beach and a large park just behind the Lido. Our children are 2 and 5.
I would mention the camp site owner, the man is lovely but the woman can come across as a bit scary! However do not be put off ! She was wonderful as soon as the hectic period had died down!
I am sure we will be going back.

We've been to this camp site a number of times and although it is not all "singing and dancing" I dont think it is as bad as the other review suggests.
They are a lovely couple who own the site and have always been very accomodating and helpful to us, they even let us pull on site at midnight after our journey down at no extra cost. I will certainly be visiting again this year.
