We have just returned from a stay at greenways this weekend. My partner, myself and 2 children (12 and 2) and we thoroughly enjoyed.
The camp site is spotlessly clean, the toilets and showers were always tidy. The clubhouse was perfect for us and the children and the staff were really friendly.
The view from our field was amazing and thankfully we had beautiful weather to enjoy the lovely beach. The only downfall was the walk down to the beach but that hasn't put us off at all.
We enjoyed so much we have booked already for next weekend.

Just arrived back from 3 nights at Greenways.
Fantastic location and views over the bay and well-kept site.
I have to say however disappointed that all 3 late afternoon/evenings there was no water available for several hours at a time. Apparently this is something to do with Welsh Water not filling a tank but really needs resolving. When there was water for showers there was always the fear that it would go off again and the temperature was too hot for an adult, let alone young children. I know some Mums took their children to wash in the laundry room as showers were too hot to use.
Sadly there was a very rowdy group set up camp nearby who played music so loud it could be heard into the early hours of the morning. Although this is clearly the responsibility of the campers concerned, there are rules for the campsite that I feel could be policed better. Just more of a presence of staff I think would help.
Otherwise, security was good with gated entrance and staff helpful when approached. Used car park for Oxwich beach which is only £4 per day which thought very reasonable. Shop just opposite car park had most essentials and lovely ice cream!

This is the third trip this year. We wanted to go somewhere far and new. I will go through the good points first :
1/ It was very easy to book on line. I called to ask a few questions, the people were helpful. I found not having a confirmation strange. On asking I was told to just arrive and my name will be there. On calling the day before the 5 hour drive, I was told he could not find my booking! I took a copy of my email and bank statement just in case. On arrival, he told me he found it!
2/ we were lucky with the weather. It was bank holiday August. Nice and sunny.
3/ the grass is green and the views were great. Slight slope that was great for the tent as it rained over night.
4/ the site had an ice cream van drive through at night and a breakfast(chips, sausage, etc, simple stuff) van in the day.
5/ it was close to the beach, 5 minute drive or 20 min walk. But it is a very high hill to walk back up. Very dangerous road to walk on as cars can not see walkers.
6/ the beach is simply beautiful. We visited another beach in the area, that was just as beautiful.
7/ it was very well priced compared to some of the sites in Essex.
8/ The staff allowed us to use the electric socket in the office to charge our camera.
Bad points:
1/ My children hated it (14, 10, 6), why? people were very unfriendly. The staff hardly looked up at me replying to my questions. It was a busy time and I was being friendly after a 7 hour drive, but the reply and communication was dry.
2/ The actual people camping were very unfriendly, I would go as far as rude. It was an open place and you can camp anywhere. All the edges were gone. So we took a central position like some other people did leaving at least 20m from the other tents. That was unfortunately large enough for some people let their children play ball games. The tent was used as a hiding and running place for children in the tent behind us. Several times kicking the ball on the tent and tripping on the guy ropes. Not a single apology from the parents. In fact, they gave us dirty looks when their child trips at 0100 waking us up. When asked if she was injured, they looked at us like we should not have been there. There were dedicated area to play and run, but for some reason some tents were picked on and you felt out of place with lots of families knew each other.
3/the roads are horrible. All single lane and no areas to let cars through. Again very unfriendly, they expect you to reverse while they just stop their carless and would not consider moving, again as if we are invading their air space. Yes I did reverse.
4/ It was busy but kept clean (to the best that they can) but as the toilets and shower rooms were in an open space, the smell was not nice in the busy times. The 7/10 is the upper possible score really.
5/ the showers at some point had very hot water that you could hear children cry. My children could not even get in from the water temperature when it was that hot.
6/ One small shop at the bottom of the hill, over priced with little selection. But Tesco and other shops a short drive away.
7/ No electric hook up. I was prepared for that. Except for my wife's camera. The staff allowed us to use the electric socket in the office.
7/ I was very disappointed by this experience. South Wales again, not in this life time. Despite the beautiful beaches I am sorry if I am generalising but we left the area with a 'bad taste'. I was later told by friends I should have gone to north Wales or south England. I was

Our overall impression of this campsite is a good one. We booked late on a Friday having failed to book in anywhere else. The site itself is a large one with great views over Oxwich Bay.
Toilet and shower facilities were good. If I was to gripe about anything it would be that the showers were too hot and there was no way to reduce the temperature. The site had plenty of toilet facilities and dish washing stations.
The security at the front of the site was a good feature and the on site club house was another. This site had a good community feel to it with children running around freely and neighbours talking easily to each other.
What let this site down was the lack of manners of some campers. I have no problem with other campers playing music. However, when it's played at such a volume it can be heard from one end of the field to the other, it is both rude and unnecessary. Add to that the fact it was played until midnight, again rude and unnecessary. However, I don't believe that the site management should be saddled with policing this. People should just respect other people's space / peace and quiet.
An alternative would be a quiet field at the top away from the noise.
Although the lane up to the campsite is narrow, it added to the adventure for us. We were a little annoyed that the car park for Oxwich Bay was a pay on entry. As a result we didn't go to this beach. In fact we left at 9am and the cars were already queueing to park.
The campsite is quite remote so no need to review the facilities of the village / town.
Overall it is a nice site. I think the key to this site is careful pitch selection.

Arrived Friday at 6ish after a hellish journey through the lanes. Quite an awkward site to get to, ending in a single lane small uphill road, which we had fun with - a car and boat trying to get past a bus!
Initially the site seemed great. Good - big fields, nice views, and well maintained. We could chose our own pitch too. The toilet block is the best we've ever seen - Clean, spacious and free. The laundry room was good too. Also drinking water taps were freely available.
However, it seemed too good to be true, and alas it was.
Of the details promoted on their website ie - family friendly and no groups of same sex (we had a tent of yobos swearing shouting and playing music to midnight), dogs on leads at all times (dogs pooping all around our tent, and others, plus dogs peeing on our cars), no noise after 10pm (music playing from 6pm until beyond midnight). We went to reception to complain, but it was locked up. We called the mobile number which is on the door of the reception - no answer, so we left a message asking for help. They were still pumping out music at at 11pm ridiculous, so we checked their website and called their main office number. Again no answer, so we left another message. Then it got silly - An ice cream van arrived on the site at 10. 15pm Bright lights awaking up all the kids, was just surreal. After that went, we had adults running around shouting 'minty' who I assume is the name of one of the dogs - that was gone midnight. Then taxis arrived on the site picking up guests who were visiting people in tents!
So, by about 1am we finally had some piece and quiet - to be woken up at at 5. 30 by a bloke shouting to his girlfriend to pass him a cold can! then the music came back on at 5. 45am.
We packed up, totally knackered. The toilets on Sunday morning were a right state, and the bins were all overflowing - not good. Checked out and told the guy on reception about all this. He said it's supposed to be quiet after 11pm, but their website says 10pm. He had no idea about the taxi, didn't seem bothered about the ice cream van, claimed not to have gotten our messages, and seemed surprised that we thought he should maybe check his messages, or even have security having a patrol or two late at night.
Nice facilities are only a small part of what a good camping site should have. There is no excuse not having somebody available to call on when things get out of hand.

Management response: Thank you for your review.
We are sorry that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been and you were clearly disgruntled leaving, however camping is a highly subjective experience and to say we are not family friendly is utterly unfair and only represents a personal opinion of one VERY busy weekend. I'm not saying there we no issues that weekend, however I do feel that your review paints a very negative picture of an experience which most other campers simply did not have.
We have received numerous compliments from other families staying over the past few busy weeks. You have only got to look at the two reviews following your own (written about the same period) and 10/10 reviews on other sites, to see that this was essentially a bit of a one off. The vast majority of people have had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in the recent busy weeks. Most other times, people have a thoroughly enjoyable stay, as there is ample room for everyone to have their own space, especially in quieter periods (i. E. Not on really busy weekends during a heat wave).
It is clear that a SMALL number of people had not been paying attention to the park rules regarding their music and the fields (in some areas) were noisy at times. I have therefore had a chat with the park management to ensure that the staff are telling people to keep music levels low throughout the day, which should set the tone for the evenings. We can only apologise if you were disturbed during your stay, however I can assure you that there were no groups of 'yobos' or single-sex groups on the park. They would have ALL booked in as families, with their wives and/or children or they would not have been let on. Occasionally, we do get families and couples booking in individually and then 'meeting up', however you can't just stop people coming to the same campsite, it's practically impossible.
Music is permitted at reasonable volumes, however there should not have been any music playing after 10pm, so even if it was low and you could hear it, that is not acceptable and we sincerely apologise for that inconvenience.
Further to our staff meeting to address this, we now have an extra evening patrol on busy weekends, on top of myself, the manager & assistants being available on the park. We have also ordered outdoor signposts, in order to allocate two fields as 'Quiet Fields', where noise should be kept to a minimum all day & night. We hope these steps will ensure that everyone can enjoy themselves in a happy environment. The night patrol will now ensure that music is kept low and that all music is off by 10pm.
With regards to the road access to the park, Gower is typical rural countryside with narrow lanes in places, however we do get 40ft static caravans up that lane on the back of lorries without issue and innumerable people take boats up and down the hill, plus farmers with tractors and trailers and so forth. Occasionally you may have to wait for the likes of a bus to get through on a busy weekend, but that happens all over Gower in the summer, not just in Oxwich.
Regarding the dogs running loose. In all the years we have been there, there have never been countless dogs running loose, if there was I would simply ban all dogs. However, again I have now brought this up with the staff. We received one complaint in recent weeks of two small dogs being off their leads and when the complaint came in the staff went straight up the field and addressed the problem. If your neighbours did not look after their dogs properly, we are sorry, however we can only do something about it if there is a problem when we go up to the fields. We did tell one couple to restrain their dogs recently or they would have to leave and that, as I understand it, solved the problem at the time.
The ice-cream van was on the park from 8pm, however he should not have driven up the fields with his lights on, if as you say that is what he did. This issue has now been dealt with, this won't happen again.
A taxi turned up late at night? He certainly did not have a barrier access card from us, so a camping customer must have let him on to the park. There is little we can do about that unfortunately, we have an expensive barrier access system to negate the need to monitor the gate all night long, however if a client let him on, we certainly knew nothing about it.
Regarding the toilets being a 'right state' on Sunday morning. They were cleaned all day on Saturday and again throughout Sunday just like every other day, so you must have been there before the staff. There is a constant cleaning regime in place, however, please understand that when the showers and toilets are being used by a LOT of people, the staff sometimes have to wait until it quietens down before they can go in and clean, this is sometimes as late as 9 or 10am, depending on the number of customers using the facilities.
Regarding the bins, we are aware of the bins overflowing on Sunday morning, unfortunately our (new) recycling program has not negated the need for so many general waste bins on busy weekends. We have therefore had a further 6 bins delivered to try to ensure this does not happen again. The bin area and bin bags were all cleared by our staff on Sunday however, so there was not a mess there for very long.
Customer care is VERY important to us and we are sorry you had a poor experience on this occasion. The manager in fairness does usually answer his mobile phone, so I don't know why you could not get hold of him when you tried, he was clearly sleeping if it was in the middle of the night, after his 14 hour shift. The head office is only open during normal office hours and myself, the manager and park staff are the only ones available on the weekend. The lounge-bar was open until 11:30pm and you could have called in there up until that time to report any issues. I would have been happy come to assist you before the bartender left or after closing time.
Please appreciate that for the most part, Greenways campsite is very quiet compared to most parks and we've spent a fortune bringing the facilities up to a high standard, which is going to take many, many years to pay back. We do our best and are continually looking to improve our services.
Kind Regards,
James |

Huge well kept camping area with a choice of 4 fields and only 5 already pitched when we arrived. Great amount of open space for football and ball games etc.
Toilet block benefited from underfloor heating and was clean and well maintained -lots of toilets and the best thought out shower spaces we've seen for a while - hairdryers (50p) and handryers for those prepared to crouch to blow dry their hair! Also laundry facilities (I didn't need these so didn't look though my other half said they were quite impressive). Given the huge capacity for tents though would still imagine there might be some queues in high summer/ good weather.
Great views of Oxwich Bay depending on where you pitch.
Visited the clubhouse which was quite small given the potential capacity - live band were entertaining and played a good selection. Soda water was flat and unpleasant though :-(
Very reasonable cost and would go again for another one night stay but not enough options to go to without a fair drive (hill down to the beach where you have to pay to park not great for walking for anyone with mobility problems or small children).

We enjoyed 5 days camping here, lovely site - very clean and the facilities block was immaculate. Nice walk to the beach, bit steep coming back up! Shop down near the beach front was well stocked.
Great star gazing, very relaxing - plenty of room for the tents and for the kids to play - and the big kids! Great views over Oxwich - you pay for this with the steep hill and narrow lane!
We would love to have stayed longer - the weather wasn't that kind to us to stay all week.

We arrived on a Thurs for a four night break, camp site was very quiet and we were able to choose a pitch which only had a slight slope in the top field and had wonderful views over Oxwich Bay.
The camping fields became very full from Fri to Sun, the result being that the shower/toilet block for both the men and women became very dirty and on the Sunday evening it was not possible to flush the toilets in the ladies block as no water was re filling the toilet cisterns.
The shower cubicles were not cleaned throughout our stay, there was a lot of sand under the mats. There did not appear to be a regular cleaning schedule.
The wash up sinks were clean when we arrived but again by Sunday were very dirty and the rubbish bin was overflowing.
If there had been effective cleaning schedule in place then this would have been an enjoyable stay, however because of these problems we won't be returning.
|
Management response: Thank you for your review. I do not however agree with much of it and therefore wish to contest some parts as I believe that the problems have been blown out of all proportion, even though I appreciate that we did have some minor problems on this particular weekend, especially with the water supply.
I shall begin with regards to the showerblock getting 'dirty' over that busy weekend.
The rooms of the showerblock are all cleaned under a daily cleaning regime and they were cleaned every day during your stay, whether you saw this or not. This is the first complaint of this nature we have received and I feel it is unfounded. Obviously, during the day the floor may get a little dirty from peoples muddy feet or sand from children returning from the beach etc. The showerblock is within the camping fields after all, but this is hardly akin to 'dirty' in the unclean sense of the word.
For the sake of clarity the showers are also cleaned daily in this process so for you to say they were not is incorrect, we have a lady who cleans them along with our park assistants (in order that both the ladies and the gentleman's sides are cleaned) and I am confident that they do a very good job overall. We supply all forms of cleaning products for this purpose and spend a lot of money on these each year so for someone to say that we do not have a regular cleaning schedule is untrue, but even so I have asked the park manager to keep an eye on things and double check the showerblock on busy weekends from now on to see that everything is being done as it should be.
We can only apologise for the water problem regarding the toilet cisterns on this particular weekend, we had a problem with the main water feed coming in to the building due to a restrictive float valve. This problem was resolved the following Monday when we had plumbers in and we doubled the feed-in capacity. This was only an issue for this one weekend and there was nothing we could have done about it on-site at the time. The problem was only an issue for a couple of hours at 'peak times' when the showerblock was being used by many, many people at once.
On the Sunday that you left the park, the washroom was cleaned as usual and as it was on every other day of your stay. Perhaps they had not got around to it by the time you departed on the Sunday morning, but I am confident that it was cleaned, as usual
Finally, yes the rubbish bins were overflowing for a couple of hours on Sunday until we took empty bins up to the camping fields and removed the full ones. This happens on practically every busy weekend and is to be expected when we have between 100 to 180 tents leaving the park on the same morning and all within a couple of hours. Everyone dumps their rubbish on the way out, as you'd expect and we have to deal with this regularly, as do most other busy campsites. This is a complete non-issue and is not detrimental to the amenities or to anyone's stay.
We work hard and spend a lot of money to run a really good caravan park & campsite and I feel this is reflected in our 4 star Visit Wales grading and in the fact that we do not have one single static caravan pitch left available for sale, which in itself, speaks volumes in this economic climate. We also have lovely families that camp with us year after year.
Suffice to say, I do not feel that sufchicks review is a fair reflection of our campsite. Please see our other reviews which average 9/10. |

Just spent BH weekend here (Sat & Sun), 2 adults, 2 kids (7 & 14) and 1 dog in a large 6 berth tent (£20 a night). Was a very quiet camp (cold and wet had put a lot of people off, I think) with only 7 or 8 other campers.
The manager was very friendly and welcoming and we liked the security of the place (£10 barrier deposit).
The first lower, smaller field had the kids playground (that my son and his new friends were hardly out of and really liked. Then two adjacent fields on either side of the gravel track up to the top fields.
The pitches were in good condition with no problems getting the tent up but some of the non-prime spots are sloping. Each field is separated by mound of hedges which gives some shelter.
The topmost fields are where you get the most gorgeous views over Oxwich Bay with the top of the castle in the foreground. As it was so quiet we had the run of one field but would imagine even in busier times the pitches would still be quite generous.
The shower block is probably one of the best I've seen with ample showers, cubicles and sinks etc. The separate Washing Up/Laundry room again has plenty of sinks with machines and an iron. We all loved it here and the surrounding areas are beautiful with plenty of little walks to various bays and beaches.
We wouldn't normally stay at a site with a clubhouse or lounge/bar and that was the only downside for us as the music only Saturday night was very loud and audible, carrying on until midnight. Not a major gripe but one that needs noting especially for those campers with young ones or want to get off to sleep a little earlier than most.
All in all, a great value for money, well looked after site with a lovely, safe, secure nature that we would definitely return to.

Just returned home following a full week camping at Greenways Leisure in Oxwich and as usual we are over the moon with the site as a whole. The site team are all very friendly and welcoming and the facilities are great.
The views from the top field are outstanding and all fields are very well maintained. We are a family of four with children ages 13 and 7.
The small park area is ideal for smaller children and my younger daughter did not really miss the outdoor swimming pool that had been there in recent years, as the beach is so close by.
The club house is lively on a Saturday evening with bingo etc but during the week is very quiet. We personally would not consider going to another site in the area and will definitely return for many years to come.
