A real treat. On arrival we were told we were down by the river which was a nice surprise. I believe the site is run by two brothers, one who works mainly in reception who I didn't actually meet but my wife said was very helpful and 'lovely'.
The other who showed us to our pitch, being new to caravanning I always find the reversing on to the pitch a little difficult especially with an audience however not this time as the chap talked me through the manoeuvre with ease which really impressed me. The site is spotless clean and very well kept with spotless facilities.
I'm struggling to find a negative point, the only thing I can think of is that the waste point is a bit of a walk from the side of the river however It still definitely worth the walk with the fantastic views you get, watching the boats pass was great and we found the site very relaxing.
We even jumped on a boat and went in to York for the day, it cost £17 for 2 of us single way, it wasn't much extra for return either- we highly recommend this as its about an hours run and you get to see a lot of places you'd never usually see.
All in all we loved it and will most definitely be back. Thank you

In our opinion best caravan site in York. The owner s are very friendly and helpful. Always do their best to give us a riverside pitch which is fantastic.
Toilets and showers excellent and very clean. Added bonus pub on site that do food, bus stop on site plus river boat into York on a Saturday and Sundays.

Spent a week here early May 2016, great site well kept owners show great pride in their site and were allways very helpful.
Pub next door to site could be great but they could do with getting some tips from caravan site owners, bar staff not very pleasant tend to serve their regulars over visitors several times I was ignored at the bar after standing several minutes a regular walks in and gets served before me, food not great for the price, there are 3 better pubs by far in Bishopthorpe.
Number 21 bus from outside of site to York used it all the time only downside they are every 2 hours so careful planning required as last bus leaves York at just after 5:00 pm.
River Boat to York very good but only runs at weekends.
Can't give 10 out of 10 as showers are not the best could do with shower curtains and somewhere to sit.

Unfortunately we didn't get the riverside pitch that we had requested but this was more than compensated for by the proprietor's apology. Lovely clean site, closely mown grass (with the cuttings picked up) The pitches are quite close together.
It would be difficult to put up an awning on some of the riverside pitches, space was so tight. Great pub just across the road. The toilets, showers and laundry are across the road but we used our own facilities so it wasn't a problem to us and we can't comment on them.
The CDP is also there so we took ours over in the car but it's not such a trek. Last mile or so of approach roads are narrow but just need a bit of care.

We called in on this site just on the 'off chance' & I'am glad we did the riverside pitches are spot on, there is a river bus that goes into York (weekends only) & a bus stop at site entrance also into York (3 miles).
The site is very clean &tidy, w. C. A bit dated but clean the only downside is the £29 pn fee ( but that's York for you)

Not the most effusive welcome but it is in Yorkshire, we were given directions for the local bike paths to city centre which took us 15-20 minutes. Shown to our pitch which was in the riverside field. Not many other people there so we were able to spread out. Lovely views over the river. Pub in sight selling York Brewery Beers. Cycled into York both days and did the tourist bit.
Our only gripe was the toilet block being across the road and being issued with only one key. It always seemed that I was waiting for the key and the wife and daughters suggested that they were also always waiting for the key. Quite a haul to the loos if you needed to go in the middle of the night. Yes, you could, and I did, but as I said it wasn't too busy!
Bit of a problem with the geese but the mess was cleaned up every morning. We also had a visit in the tent from a hedgehog, which was nice.
If we were to go back to York there would be no reason for us to look for another site.

This is our fourth year at this site and it really is special. Very friendly residents lovely riverside views and only 3 miles from York. And 1 mile from the park & ride although the bus stops outside the gates as well.
The toilets are really clean and the showers have constant hot water the staff are really helpful and don't bother you at all. Site is slightly expensive at £27 per night but your paying for a riverside view and free fishing if you want it. Once tried your sure to return.
Also local takeaways deliver to the site if required and a pub is only 50 yards from the main gate serving hot meals. There are 3 parts to the site so you are always going to get a pitch, but it does get full at bank holidays so booking is advisable.
Also there is some lovely and interesting walks along the riverside both ways. So yes I would recommend this site but you will have to find out for yourself but you wont be disappointed I promise bye for now.

This site was recommended to us by friends who visit regularly and we have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here and will most definitely be back soon. What a great location.
We were on the side of the site next to the River and it has a lovely feeling of open-ness about it and you do not feel 'hemmed-in' as you do in some other sites. There was ample room for our awning and windreaks.
The Wardens/Staff were very helpful on our arrival and gave us leaflets on the surrounding area and advice on where the best walks were. We were shown to our pitch by a gentleman on a bike which was helpful!
The toilet blocks are very well maintained (although in parts a little dated but I felt this added to the character of the site) and there was plenty of hot water to shower in.
The bins on our side of the site were obviously emptied very regularly and the whole site looked neat, tidy and a pleasant place to be.
It was great fun feeding the ducks by the River and our Jack Russell had a great time as there were lots of lovely walks.
We did not use the River Bus on this occasion but we will on our next visit. We did visit The Ship Inn which is literally just over the road - the food is very tasty (huge portions!), the staff are friendly and it altogether has a lovely atmosphere.
The only downside to our weekend (and this is a very minor point) is that when I went to wash our breakfast dishes on Sunday morning, the water was not warm but this really wasn't a huge deal.
We will definitely visit again soon. We loved it.

Great site. I had booked ahead but hadn't asked for specific pitch. When I got there I had a quick look and asked the warden if it was possible to get a riverside pitch. He said they were all hardstanding so I accepted that - but was a bit surprised to see other tents going into the riverside?
We were allocated in small field beside other tents which was totally fine though. Except when you needed the toilet late at night. Such a hike in near pitch darkness (quite creepy and on main, but not busy road - I didn't like my girls to have to walk it on their own at all) past all the vans and statics which I assume have their own facilities!
The toilets and showers were good though, I can't fault them. How other campers leave the facility is not the campsite's fault! Didn't use the laundry facilities but had a peek in and saw an old fashioned mangle alongside the more modern machines. Thought that was fab. The guy who took my money wasn't particularly friendly and when went to the reception to look for brochures and information, there were two men in there who stopped talking the minute I entered.
They were silent til I asked a question then shut up again til I turned to leave. Very disconcerting and actually, pretty rude! However, had no other contact with staff until we left and the atmosphere at the site was relaxed and informal.
Had camped in Chestnut Farm next door before but says on website they don't take tents now, says different on sign. We were nearer to Chestnut Farm site than Poplar, which is odd.
We were also very close to the Ship Inn and ate there a couple of times. Lovely helpful staff. Bus stop to York from the site but we drove to Askham Bar park & ride, where there's also a 24 hour Tesco. Adult is £2. 80 and child under 16 goes free with paying adult.
I've been many times to Acaster since I was a child and my parents took me in a caravan and I will be back!

What a lovely site - right alongside the River Ouse.
Campsite is not the prettiest I have ever been to - some pitches were overlooked by housing but the facilities are second to none.
Toilet and shower blocks are immaculate also has washing up and washing machine block.
Wardens extremely helpful giving knowledge of surroundings. As I had 2 dogs with me they also pointed me in the right direction of good walks/fields for the dogs.
All hard-standing with grass alongside for awnings.
I booked the same day and still got a pitch.
