Nice quiet site on the banks of the river Ouse. Lots of bird life (you'll hear it in the morning I'm sure) and boats galore. Parents of young children take note there is direct access to the river side so you can't leave your little un's unsupervised at all.
Site facilities very clean, tidy and enough to go round, you know what I mean.
The friendly helpful staff to make your stay enjoyable. My pitch was huge and the grass was well kept. Nice to see dead patches replaced by new turf.
Boat ride to York very pleasant, catch it at the Ship Inn right next to the entrance. Shops for supplies etc 5 min car ride.
Overall really enjoyed my stay here and found the cost very reasonable as well. Therefore I would definitely recommend this site to anyone visiting the York area. Thanks

A great little site, on arrival the owner got on his bike and took us to our pitch, the grass was very well looked after and all the pitches looked even, also plenty of room for kids to let of steam.
Showers and toilets although a little old were spotless. The site itself is in a lovely location with a pub just off site, we were able to leave our van there mid week for us to return the following weekend, the owners didnt charge that much either. We are looking forward to going back and would reccommend this site to all.

Have had a brilliant week on this camp site for the second time. Well looked after on arrival, owner can not do enough for you. Showers and Toilets clean and tidy plenty hot water, washing facility available as well. Get set for sightseeing in Yorkshire. River Boat takes you into York, very enjoyable. Near to the Park and Ride for access in the City of York Good pub within 2 minutes walk, good food and reasonably priced. Would definitely go again

We have just returned from the Easter break at this site and we loved it. We were very lucky to be given pitches on the banks of the River Ouse which was simply beautiful. The site itself is spotless, the showers and toilets although old are clean, on arrival the owner shows you to your pitch on his bike and could not have been more helpful. There is a lovely pub on the corner and the food there was yummy. Will we go back, oh my goodness yes I cant wait.

I absolutely love Poplar Farm, OK I would say that because I've been going there for most of my life but still it is a great caravan park set in a rural location. The people that work on site or the people that own static caravans are friendly and always obliging to help out. The toilets and showers even though being old just add to the rural feel, I don't think I could go if they were ever changed! The only thing I mainly do on the holiday is fish, the fishing's good on that section of the river Ouse and I've got plenty of friends that fish down there too. The best pub in the area must be the Marcia in Bishopthorpe as the bar staff are pleasant and drinks are cheap. I just want to add to people who has little children, don't complain bout the road and the river, just look after your kids and then you wont have to worry! Be a good parent!

August 2005 Just returned from a weekend stay at this site and had an excellent time there despite lots of rain! Our tent was pitched in a lovely spot close to the river - ducks came to the tent to investigate our breakfast one morning. Showering and washing up facilities were fairly basic but adequate. The site is about a 15min drive from York, or you can catch a daily boat to and from the centre from the adjacent pub for £6.50 for adults and £3 for children. The site is run by two brothers who were very friendly and helpful.
Would definitely return to this site.

July 2004 I can not fault this campsite on cleanliness as it was spotless. This is a campsite from the early 70's and has been painted and maintained but has no mod cons. Shower curtains to screen the drying area from the showering area would be nice. It was hard to keep clothes & towels dry whilst showering. There was NO soap to wash your hands after using the loo and only one hand dryer. A hot tap on each washing up sink would be good but of course people would use too much hot water as they might rinse the dishes in hot water! Had to laugh at the old Mangle for wringing out any clothes you may have washed. True Big brother style.
The river was a lovely setting however we have young kids and was a bit of a worry. We were not asked if this would be a problem and just shown to our pitch. The road was also reasonably busy for youngsters crossing desperate to rush to the loo.
This site is close to York and the bus stops at the entrance as parking is expensive the bus was great.
Our tent is large and we were charged full price for the kids due to this.

July 2004 We got a lovely pitch here right at the waters edge. Very nice and peaceful watching the boats go by and feeding the ducks (who liked to come into the tent!). The owner was really nice and got on his bike to take us to our pitch. The pitch was across a road so it was a bit far from the toilet but not too bad. The toilets were spotless and freshly painted. Lovely pub along the road which is child friendly. Will definately be going back.

May 2004 Set in a very peaceful area, right next to the river leading to York. We were staying on one of the fields across the road from the campsite, this was great because there were 15 of us so we did not have to worry about our noise level! The only problem with this was that we had a 5 minute walk to the toilet which was a bit of a problem in the middle of the night in the pitch black! Toilets were extremely clean but very basic as were the showers and washing up room (could do with a little modernisation). Very quiet area only 15 minutes in the car to York, the boat ride to York about 1 hour get the boat across the road from the pub (very nice, sat outside watching the boats go by and lovely food). I would definately go back 8/10
