We arrived on site following a stormy windy night, some tents and awnings had suffered during the storm. We were greeting by a friendly manager who was most helpful to all concerned and suggested the lead windy pitches.
We choose a flat level hard standing pitch. The site is close to Lynton & Lynmouth with it's many tourist attractions, the terrain is steep and the roads narrow so be prepared for this.
We enjoyed our stay including a drive around Exmoor and Porlock hill which is very pretty.

This campsite was the 31st we had visited in the last 3 months as my wife was walking The South West Coast Path all in one go, and this site was certainly the most unwelcoming. I arrived at 12.25pm and was brusquely told that the office wouldn't be open until 1pm and to 'park over there and wait'. I should have driven away then.
I finally booked in but was made unwelcome. As a previous reviewer pointed out, the small toilet block was closed for 1 1/2 hours for cleaning and when I asked if there was anywhere I could use, I was grudgingly told to use the ladies, 'but use the 1st cubicle on the left and keep to the centre of the toilet because the wet floor was a Health and Safety concern.'
The only good point was that the facilities were very clean which was unsurprising considering the length of time it took to clean them. They do need updating.

This is a lovely quiet site over looking the North Devon Coast and the Bristol Channel. The site is well looked after and although the toilet block is dated it was always spotlessly clean. We had severe winds while we there so worth trying to pitch in the lea of the hedge if possible.
This is an excellent place for exploring Exmoor and North Devon, there are many beautiful walks either from site or from Lynton and Lynmouth. We visited Clovelly, Lynton, Lynmouth, Porlock Weir and Dartington Glass while there.
Follow campsite directions as there are extremely steep hills in the area.

We visited the Lynton site on the first May bank holiday this year and thanks to the traffic we were very late arriving. Despite this, we were made very welcome and I was even able to buy a new gas bottle at 10pm which saved breakfast the following morning!
The site was fairly quiet but is nicely laid out with a good mix of pitches and a separate tent field and a large dog-free playing field. Nice views down to the coast can be had next to the facilities block.
The facilities could do with a little updating but are very clean and the showers don't have the annoying push buttons which is a bonus. The shop is well stocked and the site managers and assistants were very helpful and friendly. A visit to Watersmeet is a must! Lovely walk in to town but quite steep so be prepared for the climb back!
We will definitely return.

The good bits first then! Site was clean, tidy, well manicured and ordered. But
This site maintains dogs welcomed, not at all. It also states that there is a designated dog area. Although I complied with dog rules I was on more than one occasion constantly monitored, watched and reminded.
There is no dog area and dog owners are directed out of site gates to the lane ( queens highway) outside. This presented problems not just for me but for others whose dogs have also been trained not to use pavements/roadways etc. All the dogs I met on site were like mine well behaved, quiet but most unwelcome.
The toilet and shower facilities although very clean were closed each day from 1030-1200 (for cleaning!) So forget the leisurely holiday breakfast followed by a refreshing shower before heading off. Not sure which two wardens were on duty that weekend as no names offered. Myself and others on site felt that we were guilty until proven otherwise.
We are all adults and know how to behave with consideration. Honestly!

The campsite is off the beaten track but easy enough to find. The wardens were very welcoming and guided us to our tent site and gave advice as regards wind direction etc.
We have a Montana 6 with extension so need a large space, which was fine. The site office sells one or two basic items but main shops are Lynton and Lynmouth. The shower block, although quite old was kept absolutely immaculate.
We would definitely use this site again.

I really don't want to recommend this site because I want to keep it quiet! So long as you keep it to yourself, I don't mind telling you that this site is absolutely first class.
The location is ideal for walkers, the facilities clean and tidy even under the pressure of full summer occupation. Good views, clear skies, immaculate toilet block, fab showers.
Two fields, one busy and one quiet, which is ideal. Highly recommended. Loved it!

On booking we dealt with an extremely helpful and friendly chap. On arrival at the site we were booked in by the site wardens wife who was less than friendly. We felt as if we were a nuisance.
Having pitched up we then found reception closed - this was about 2pm Shop opening hours are 9-10. 30am and the shop is located within reception. Even on the odd occasion when reception was open, the shop was closed.
Washing up facilities and laundry facilities are locked from 9pm-9am! For early risers like ourselves who wanted to get off site at 8am to go walking, this meant leaving dirty dishes all day.
The toilet/shower block (clean but in need of modernization) is closed for cleaning from 11am-1pm. It is advertised that there is an alternative toilet available at this time - there isn't.
Mobile phone reception is poor as is mobile wifi access. The site sells wifi but this does not always work and the site managers are huffy when disturbed. We really wondered who the site was being run for. A discussion in the washing up room confirmed it wasn't just us.
There were no local advertised bus stops either.

An excellent site in a great location.
The toilets facilities are a bit dated but where immaculately clean, there where two toilet blocks so there where facilities even when cleaning.
Dave the warden was really helpful.
Some of the non hard standing pitches where on a slope so some folk might struggle a bit.
You've got to take the downhill walk to Lynton even if you catch the bus back!
Go to Lee bay (you can walk) The cafe there has the best cream teas ANYWHERE!
The children's playground was a little small but our kids enjoyed it.
WE would definitely use this campsite again.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at this very good site.
The site manager and his assistants were very friendly and helpful. The site was busy, but we did not feel crowded in. There is a small play area for the children and a reasonable sized field set aside for ball games.
We were on the top field which afforded some spectacular views of both the sea and Exmoor; if there was a downside to the views it would be that the field is exposed to the wind. The ablutions were well kept and there was plenty of hot water.
The location is perfect for some spectacular coastal walking - be prepared for some steep climbs. Lynton is a one mile walk from the site along a narrow track – signposted as unsuitable for motors. The walk back requires a level of fitness as the track is steep.
Would definitely visit again and recommend to those who enjoy the outdoor life.
