Great site, in between Rosthwaite and Stonethwaite.
Excellent pub in Rosthwaite.
Great walks directly from the site.
Facilities were very basic, but did the job.

A lovely place to stay, I had 3 nights & hit a sunny spell.
Superb location & very well run, owner really cares about his site.
He was anticipating an upcoming busy bank holiday weekend & was opening up more fields.
Rules & regs are clearly stated on the notice board next to the toilet area.
There is a barn with seats for rainy weather, thankfully I didn't have to hide in there.
Everyone I spoke to loved this site.
£6 ppn, well worth it, will be back soon.

Love this site. Basic, but clean, friendly owners, beautiful setting, and importantly quiet - even at the busiest times.
I have stayed here several times (small tent) and always enjoyed time spent there.

This campsite is fab. Despite the close proximity to the road it was incredibly quiet. The site was very peaceful on the whole and there were plenty of places to set up camp.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rates were amazing! £12 for two people! It was also dog friendly but did not charge extra for the hound which was very much appreciated.
There were plenty of toilets for a smallish site and the showers were lovely and warm as well.
This campsite is in a great location for accessing a lot of the surrounding fells and the Cumbria way.
I went and had a sneaky look at Stonethwaite which is managed by the same owners. This was very back to basics but definitely well worth a look for only £5 a night.

We loved our stay here. The best thing is the beautiful location, with so much fantastic walking direct from the site. Plus the bonus of two pubs serving food within walking distance. Also, you are on the bus route, so easy to walk one way and get the bus back. No traffic noise.
Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, checking with us that everything was ok.
We had no problem finding somewhere level for our small motorhome: most people were in tents, though.
The facilities are basic, but well kept and perfectly adequate.
This site is perfect for us and we will definitely be back.

We camped in the overflow field, which is just over the road from the main part of the campsite, for one night. The grass was quite long but it was clean and dry, and boards had been laid over the muddy patch in the gateway.
Four portaloos were provided, which remained clean throughout the weekend, along with drinking water taps and a big sink, and of course there are more facilities across the road at the main site. I think the field is probably a bit more exposed than the rest of the site, which might be a consideration with some tents (there were a few flat tents and flying tarps when we stayed because of the strong wind coming down the valley).
The farmer was very friendly. Despite being told it was going to be a busy weekend because of the fell race there was lots and lots of space in the overflow field and the main campsite did not look crowded.
There was little road noise during the day since vehicles travel slowly up the small road, and I noticed none at night.
The views are excellent in every direction, including Gable, Glaramara, Great End, and several waterfalls. There are good pubs in nearby Rosthwaite which is just a few minutes' walk along the road (there is a small path by the road), and a bit further up the valley at Stonethwaite. Camping here puts big hills right on your doorstep, so you don't need to travel by car once you're here.
I would definitely stay here again, it was lovely.

Very good campsite. Nice and level which I always prefer. You have to park your car in a car park rather than next to your tent, but it's not far away and not a problem.
Facilities were very clean and the showers were nice and warm.
Owner came round in the evening and we paid him then, rather than potentially being disturbed in the morning. The pub down the road (15ish min walk) served very good food and had a selection of ales.
I would definitely recommend this site and will be returning.

While I only stayed one night, linking a two-day hiking trip to the northern Lakes, Chapel House Farm suited me perfectly. It has very easy access from the main Borrowdale road but virtually no noise from traffic in the evening/night, has solid facilities (no hot water on tap but all cold is drinking water, a real plus as far as I was concerned), was level and dry and was within ten minutes walking of at least two good pubs.
The site can be windy - a friend's tent blew away from here a few years ago - and it blew enough to keep me awake for a while when I stayed but you have to expect that in Cumbria!

I stayed here last year and really enjoyed my stay. So much so that I have been back twice this year. My last visit was august bank holiday and I stayed for 10 nights.
Bank holiday was busy and the owner opened his overflow fields for campers. This meant the main field was not over crowded.
Facilities are basic, toilets, sink and showers at 50p for 4 minutes. But although basic they are adequate and spotless. The owner walked around every day to check everyone was ok and happy, even asking if there was anything amis that needed putting right.
Great location for walking the hills around Borrowdale. Two pubs withing a 10 minute walk, both serving good food.
Would I go back or reecommend this site. The answer is yes and yes

Stayed here 1 night, as we had promised our daughter a bit of camping. Site was easy to find, pulled up and set up camp on a lovely sunny evening.
Toilets were clean and the showers were just what was needed. The owner came round at 8 the next morning and was very friendly. Unfortunately it was raining very hard so we decide to cut short our camping trip.
Will be going back next year and hopefully get some walking in as well. Would recommend this site to anyone who wants a nice quite site.
