Superb views all round! Unlike Seatoller Farm campsite just up the road (trees all around, blocking the views).
£6 per person per night, paid to the nice woman when she visited at 8am the next day. This allows you to arrive at any time. Some minor road noise. Lots of level areas. Cars mustn't stay in the field, but motorhomes can.
Quite busy on our wet and windy Monday night in August, but not overcrowded. Everyone well-behaved. It rained all night and day, but drainage was very good, and little wind, thanks to hills all around. Pegs were sometimes hard to put in.
Basic toilets with cold water, toilet roll and liquid soap. Showers 50p for four minutes. Covered wash area with cold water and two sinks.
We loved it here, and will definitely come again!

This was my annual trip to walk the fells in this area. The last couple of years I have camped elsewhere. One of my friends recommended this site to me, so trusting them I went there and arrived on August Bank Holiday Saturday. The owner was in the car park giving a good welcome to one and all, and making sure everything was kept in order.
Drove into the site to set up my tent and unload the car, I was planning on being here 10 days. Then went and parked off field in their car park, which is really only a stones throw from the field.
The owners were very chatty and could not do enough to ensure everyone was ok. Monies were collected after 7 in the morning, but to be honest most people were up by then anyway.
Showers are 50p, with buckets of hot water. No need to rush in and rush out like I have had to do on other sites. 3 sinks for washing up, all with cold water only. My only criticism is they are a little low.
Nice pub up the road that serves a nice selection of ales. Did not try the food, but it did look very nice.
This place is ideal and very central with lots of good walks, many can be done from the campsite. If you don't want to drive then the bus stops virtually outside the front door, and Keswick is only 20 mins up the road.
Best of all. No mobile phone signal - Now that's worth its weight in gold, no-one chatting away loudly. I fully recommend this campsite to anyone, and I will be going back their next year.

Me and two friends used this camp site as a base for walking up Scarfell and found it perfect.
The site has basic facilities but were more than adequate. We had little contact with the owners apart from paying for 2 nights (£6per night) early on the first morning.
Showers were 50p but had no problems with the hot water. Plenty of toilet roll.
Good pub approximately half a mile from the campsite which serves good food.
Only down side was that we struggled to get our tent pegs in.
Have used this campsite twice now and will definitely be returning.

Used as a base for a large walking group over the bank holiday weekend we found this to be a lovely campsite.
The facilities are fairly basic, showers cost 50p for around 5mins of hot water. The box is outside the shower which can be a little awkward, and there are only two showers for each gender which caused some queues when there were several groups on the site.
Apart from the showers there is no hot water, though the toilets do now have lights and there was generally toilet roll.
The site is large and cars are restricted to the car park, though we were able to bring them on to the grass to unload and pack.
The owners seemed very friendly, and were helpful immediately when approached with problems.
Location wise, there are two pubs in walking distance, and the site is surrounded by excellent places to walk.

Stayed here over the Jubilee holiday weekend, the site was full to capacity some cars having to park on a nearby field. This put a lot of strain on the meagre facilities as mentioned in earlier posts. The owners did their best to cope but with it being a drive in pay tomorrow site, seem to have lost control.
The site is very dog friendly and there were several wandering about unleashed so I would check the grass before pitching.
Even though the site was overfull there was no noise at night all credit to the owner who patrols till midnight.
The local cafe ' the flock in ' now a acts as a small village shop choice is very limited.
I would go again but not on a Bank Holiday Weekend

I based myself here for a couple of nights while walking the local fells. It is a basic site but as a solo backpacker with basic needs it suited me fine.
The facilities are very simple, the showers being a small concrete floored shed with not much room though there are now lights in the toilets/showers, and toilet roll too!
Plenty of room on a mostly very level site, cars are restricted to a parking area at the front and not allowed onto the grass which is something I prefer. On my first night were a few other groups, the second just one other tent and both nights were quiet. Despite being near the 'main' road there's very little traffic after dark.
As has been mentioned fees are collected 7-7. 30 in the morning, I was up and cooking breakfast at that time but it could be an inconvenience. The lady collecting was friendly though.
Locally the small shop at Rosthwaite has closed, there's nothing else nearby so you'll have to bring all you need. Pub wise the Riverside Bar of the Scafell Hotel has good food and local ales. Also nearby is The Langstrath Inn, again local ale but dining is more upmarket.
A great location for exploring the hills (and having a pint afterwards), so if your needs are simple then I'd certainly recommend this site.

Sad (some might say), but I visited this site in December last year on a dark and wet Friday night. Hard to believe it was only last month. There was only one other tent pitched so I was well aware it was going to be a quiet night, which I have NO problem with. Very basic camp site but yet it does what it says on the tin. The showers were not working in the Winter months, but the hospitality and genuine manner that Richard (site owner/ farmer) showed was very warming. Would certainly call again.

We have been to this site four times this summer we use it as a base camp. It is a very peaceful site, but is very basic. Three toilets for women, three for men(which now have lights in), shower for men and women 50p, uncovered sinks for washing dishes (only cold water though).
There has always been plenty of room for tents although your vehicle must stay on the car park area (we do drive on to the field to unload). Although this is a working farm we didn’t hear that much noise, but you have to expect it in this area. If you listening carefully you may hear the owls on an evening.
There are two pubs in the area both 10-15 minutes walk from the camp site, the one we always use is the Scafell Hotel which we would highly recommend if you have your dog with you, they are very dog friendly and allow dogs inside their bar area and they serve lovely meals till 9pm.
We have also had meals at the Langstrath pub which are again lovely, but unfortunately they do not allow dogs inside which is a shame, so we tend to use this pub in the warmer evenings only as they do have an nice outdoor seating area.
For £6 a person we think it’s pretty good value and the farmer and his wife are nice too.

A quiet, fairly rustic family run site aimed at mainly walkers and mountain baggers like myself.
The field is set in a stunning location far enough away from the road. Facilities are very basic, but if you are doing your homework planning a visit here this is what to expect.
The warden from the farm was very friendly and enjoyed a chat on an individual basis which was nice. Toilet blocks were basic but clean, don't forget a torch!
This is not a site for the family, though for parents looking to get away from the kids for a weekend it's great!
Two cracking small hotels within 20 minutes walk are nearby serving good food.
I would return next time down in the area.

This campsite is in a lovely location and we stayed here for one night whilst walking the Coast to Coast. There is very little alternative camping available in this area which means if you're doing the Coast to Coast you pretty much have to stay here which is unfortunate.
We are more than happy with very basic facilities, as long as this is reflected in the price. £6 pppn is pretty stiff for a small backpacking tent and very poor facilities. No hot water, no toilet roll, washing up facility (again no hot water) is exposed to the elements. There wasn't even a light in the toilet/shower block and 50p for a shower in the dark is a bit much.
We have done a lot of backpacking and camping and stayed at a lot of sites so we know what to expect.
