Stayed here for four nights in August 2008 bank holiday weekend.
The owners appear to exercise no control at all over how many people pitch on their site, simply telling people to pitch up and pay up.
The result of this was the fact that whole campsite was soon churned up into a sea of mud. Not only was this unpleasant, but it was downright dangerous. On one occasion a car slid and missed our tent by inches. On another occasion a sliding car almost ran over my wife as she sat by the fire.
This is all quite apart from constantly being splashed and sprayed with mud from cars trying to get past, spinning their wheels. The sheer number of people meant the place was more like Clapham Junction than a serene bucolic idyll.
There are no toilets or water points other than at the central ablution block/shop which meant that for someone camped at the far end of the site had to traipse through a half a mile of mud and back just to have a wee or get some more water.
Shop was very well stocked but prices were an outright rip-off.
The site is accessed by a private, single track road about half a mile long. This makes access difficult - specially when there is a caravan or two coming the other way.

We had a lovely time here - very beautiful and friendly with friendly but unintrusive owners. There are lovely walks through exmoor nearby and ponies on site. It was busy, but not too full when we were there and the facilities were adequate, though a few more would be good. The showers and toilets were all clean and not as muddy or dirty as most campsites! There were lots of signs around which were friendly and welcoming. We camped in a sheltered field and were lucky enough to have it to ourselves with our friends. We had a beautiful fire and saw bunnies and hedgehogs wandering around the campsite. The hills above are breathtaking.
We had a 4x4 so were fine with the mud but it was fairly bad. The shop is useful but very expensive and at £7.50 each a night we only stayed two nights. It was lovely and very child friendly.

Went camping here after a few days of rain. The site was soggy, but I found a dryish spot. It was a bit chilly at night (-5), but sitting round the campfire made it all worth while. There was 1 other camper there, and another arrived the day I left. Look out for Bob and Nelson, the farm dogs. They are huge Deer Hounds and as daft as a brush. Go for a walk and they will come with you. Enjoyed a Cream Tea at their Tea Room.

Pros.
Beautiful setting - very imaginative pitches along the river - short list of basic rules (campers staying here seem very respectful & don't really need them) - camp fires allowed - dogs very welcome - great shop - superb cream teas - horseriding - fantastic for country walks - super friendly staff - swimming in the river
Cons.
I know why they call it Cloud Farm - access can get muddy - expensive cakes.
Summary.
A great natural campsite. Loved it! If you want to get away from urban life this is for you. Will certainly return.

Have just returned from a trip to Cloud Farm and I shall list the advantages and disadvantages and my conclusion at the end.
ADVANTAGES
- Out of the way in a scenic location.
- Has horse riding, but at a price.
- You can have a logfire.
- Friendly staff.
DISADVANTAGES
- If you camp next to the river there are loads of midges and the shop will relieve you of the tidely sum of a tenner for some repellent.
- The shop is very expensive and items are at least double the cost in a normal shop.
- I would not recommend the food there, everything was overcooked and wasps are everywhere.
- Campsite was a quagmire when we were there and drainage was non existent. Everything was getting stuck in the mud (take your wellies if you are going).
- The singletrack road getting down from the hill to the outskirts of the campsite was acceptable, however the road leading into the campsite was just a joke, potholes galore etc. You are constantly having to stop the car to let other cars through or trying to find passing points.
- Nearest shops are around a 20 mile drive, which takes ages, because of the roads.
- There are surcharges on virtually everything, e.G. If you tent is a small 4 man tent and there are 2 of you than they will charge you.
- I could only see one washbasin in the mens toilet block. One washbasin for all the men on the site, surely not you ask! Well unless there is some hidden toilet block that we were unaware of than yes there is only 1 washbasin in the mens block.
CONCLUSION
This campsite has some of the ingredients to be a really good site, however it is let down in many areas. Cloud Farm was a let down for us because it was overpriced, was a hike to get in and out of the place and had poor facilities.

My boyfriend and I have just arrived home after spending 4 nights at this campsite.
We were looking for somewhere quiet in the countryside, completely different to the holiday park camping experience.
The journey was a little worrying, as I hadn't realised getting to the campsite would involve some realatively steep inclines, which caused my little 1.2 litre petrol car some problems, but none the less it go there.
On arrival at the site the first thing we were thankful for was our wellies. These are a must on this site, as although the river running through the site makes for a lovely setting the ground can get quite boggy.
The pony trekking facilities at this site are literally on your doorstep. I loved this as the sound of clipitty clops of the hooves was great and the pony's looked well looked after and passed our tent regularly, however many ponies contributes again to need for wellies.
The site shop was great, well stocked and the prices were reasonable. You could also get warm food, tea and coffee etc, please do be aware though that there are no indoor areas to eat on site, just covered areas outside. This was a shame as you do need to drive to get to local pubs/Inns for this.
The showers were cleaned twice every day and the water was warm. Other facilities included covered washing up area with two sinks, seemed plenty when we were there. Also freezer and fridge space available. Washing machines and tumble driers are also available, although you need to pay for these facilities.
We had two families camping in our field but all in all the site was quiet and with open fires aloud on site the smell of wood and open air cooking was great.
We did have a lot of rain during our stay which was a shame, but I would definitely stay there again for the peace and quiet, just will try to pick a sunnier time if possible.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Due to all the rain the track through the site was extremely muddy, to the point that my car slid into a gate post and the door was damaged! They did try to improve it by flattening the mud with chains towed by a quad bike, but I think they could put more money and effort into improving the drainage. Lots of units on site and facilities not really adequate to cope with the number of campers. Facilities were clean, just too few. Shop sells lots of useful stuff, but very expensive. The site is very picturesque, a stunning location next to the river. Be warned - Midges were out in force whilst we were there, as bad as Scotland! All in all a good spot for exploring Exmoor, but felt it was expensive and in need of more facilities, better upkeep and general improvements. Won't be visiting again.

Just come back from a long weekend. Crowded at the weekend and the facilities cannot cope. 2 loos in Ladies with 1 spare by stables. 2 showers also and I agree with a previous review it needs a locked door. The arrangement of the long metal curtain slats and a shower curtain didn't give privacy especially if you have a child who kept moving hem as I saw happen several times.
On Sunday Evening and Monday (day we left) it was far quieter.
It was also wet and at that point all tracks leading to where you camp become quagmires and several cars got bogged down.
We went with friends with 3 children ranging in age from 13 - 5 years old. Sadly on Saturday two couples arrived who squeezed into space that didn't exist and prevented a caravan couple even getting their awning up or even parking their car next to their caravan. They had guy ropes crossing ours. They turned out to be bad campers allowing their 2 teenage boys to climb into fenced off fields and chase the horses when it was dark and sat talking, 'effing and blinding' until 4:00 a.M. Our friend asked them twice to stop but they refused. To be fair when our friend and the caravan couple decided to cut short their stay and leave on Sunday the owner was very supportive and gave a refund for the nights not staying and was saying clearly anytime day or night to knock on the door. We did try but couldn't work out what door to knock on. We stayed and he did go out of his way to ask us if we were ok. So if you find yourself in this position please tell the owner as he wants to keep the good reputation of the site.
The setting is superb and being allowed campfires is so lovely. If you visit don't miss Lynmouth and Lynton, the view as you drive down the hill is wonderful. Valley of the Rocks is also a wild and endearing place. All in all not a 'fluffy' camping site but somewhere with views. One large criticism I have is the charges are high for facilities and I think you pay for location, location, location.

My three daughters and I just spent a wonderful few days at this camp-site. Our visit was mid-week and just before most schools finished for the summer, so it was relatively quiet. It began filling up as we left - I would not of wanted to be there at the week-end. The facilities were beginning to strain, with queues for the washing up and the facilities pretty dirty by mid-morning. As it was, we enjoyed some peace and quiet, lovely walks, and star-filled skies. The girls also enjoyed the riding, although a couple of children on the previous ride had fallen off their ponies- I'm not sure how experienced the girls in charge of the stables were. A friendly bunch though.
The little shop was a great help - with calor gas, camping bits and bobs as well as food essentials.
The river was lovely to splash around in; some people had taken wetsuits which was a great idea.
A 20 minute walk got you to the pizzeria in the village - which made for a nice evening. It was open from 5 - 8pm.
We might go back, but definitely out of season.

Spent 3 nights here in June.
Fantastic location - our eldest child loved the river.
Decent facilities - although not many, so not sure what it would be like when busy.
No strict pitches so you're free to pitch wherever you want and camp fires are permitted. Not aware of an electric hookups.
All in all a proper campsite! We look forward to returning soon.
