With 4 fields to choose from you can be sure of plenty of space on a normal weekend, though Im sure this would change on a bank or school holiday.
We stayed for 2 nights and loved every minute of it, the shower / toilet block was typical of many campsites. Not too luxurious not too dirty and perfectly adiquate for the size of the site. There is also a fridge and laundry facilities in case you need them.
We arrived after the shop/reception had closed and so were free to pitch our tent and pay the next day, a bit trusting if someone was only there for the one night. The oppertunity to camp next to a river realy made the experience so much better as the scenery was beautiful.
The ability to make camp fires gave it a real feel of old style camping, burning logs at sunset and surrounded by green hills, what a way to spend a weekend.
They also serve up a nice breakfast and a great devonshire cream tea. With plenty of walks to be had and beautiful coastal towns near by there is plenty to keep you going during your stay.
I would recommend this campsite to everyone.

After a high recommendation in cool camping we visited Cloud Farm. The scenery is picturesque and the walks are varied and plentiful whether walking across the moors or the cliff costal road (around the lighthouse at your own peril!).
The tariff was higher than expected and we were charged £1 per night extra just for having a dog as well as charged for a large tent. Fees aside the pitch was lovely by the water, but I would chose one near a wall in the wind/rain as it affords more protection.
Toilets and showers are both clean and free. The big bonus is being able to make fires and wood is sold at a fair price on site, but buy it before the shop shuts! The ability to put food in the fridge is a big plus as well as good general kitchen facilities.

We just got back from a really lovely weekend at Cloud Farm. The site has four fields by the river and they are all kept very clean. The only rule they have on the site is to remember other people are on holiday, too. There were hardly any caravans around, mostly tents. You are allowed to have an open fire and can buy the wood in the very small but well stocked shop.
The toilet facilities were okay. Apparently they should be cleaned twice daily but when we were there they were cleaned once a day. They are in reasonable condition so no complaints there. They have riding stables attached to the farm and we had a little pony for our two daughters for 1/2 hour for £10 to take round the campsite for riding. They loved it! The staff were helpful and friendly. I can honestly recommend this campsite that is set in an absolute beautiful scenery.

Just returned from a fabulous 5 day trip to Cloud Farm. We were very lucky as the weather was spectacular and the campsite looked even prettier against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sky. It's quite a popular site at the weekend and so during the week is obviously the best time to go.
We were tucked away at the far end of the field next to the river. We whiled away the time either walking, cycling or jumping in the river. Then the evenings were spent listening to the Eagles sat by the camp fire, glass of wine in hand, watching the horses galloping over the top of the hills opposite - truly stunning.
The owners of this campsite have done a fantastic job of creating a great camping experience (why do not more campsites allow camp fires?) together with all the mod cons such as hot showers, fabulous tea room and shop (stacked with wine!). We didn't go horse riding but it was readily available and a pleasure to watch from across the river bank. There is no mobile phone signal down here whatsoever so you definitely have to leave work behind! Otherwise there is a small internet cafe in Lynmouth and sporadic mobile phone signal in the town - apparently Vodafone is the best. It truly was a holiday where you were compelled to 'get away from it all' !

We went here on the bank holiday weekend in august and had a brilliant time. The area is so beautiful with a river running by the campsite and being in the valley you really feel like that you are away from everything, the owners have done a lovely job.
The shop was great with a good choice of everything you may need. The toilets and showers were kept clean by the owners and I didn't have to queue but there were queues but if everyone goes at 8 o'clock that's whats going to happen.
The fact that you were allowed to have campfires was a big draw. It was so nice at night after the sun went down to light the fire and sit round having a beer and a laugh it really made the evenings enjoyable and warmer.
Our four year old loved it, the atmosphere was friendly with lots of families with kids of all ages to play with, they loved the river to paddle in even though it was freezing!
You could go out on a horse trek as there is a stable on site and also for little ones you could hire a pony for half an hour and take them out around the site. Luckily we sat our little girl on and she didn't like it but I'm happy with that as horses are expensive to keep!
There is shops near by for all your other needs and some lovely little towns near the butchers was even open on the bank holiday.
We enjoyed ourselves so much we are going back next year without doubt

This is a lovely campsite. We visited for a weekend on the 18th of May. We were a little concerned having read some of the other reviews about over-crowding but have to say we had no such problems, although I could imagine that if we had have gone over the bank holiday it may have been a different story. We had no problems with queues for the bathrooms or washing up facilities and the on site tea shop and off licence is really handy. The homemade cakes look great too. The best bit of course is the fantastic location - camping next to the river with the camp fire burning and a cold glass of wine what could be better. The walk through Doone Valley itself is fantastic too. We did a circular walk from the farm through the valley and across exmoor and its well worth the effort especially now all the rhodedendron's are in bloom (although we did leave a waterproof jacket behind so if you find a yellow Peter Storm Jacket its ours!). We would definitely go back to this site for the wonderful setting and the camp fire smells - Lovely.

We spent 2 nights here over the Easter weekend. A great site but very crowded. For me and my 9 year old with a 4 berth tent and small outhouse it cost me £34 for 2 nights which I thought was expensive for the very small amount of space we got.
The river was great for kids to play in and my son spent hours paddling in his wet suit so free entertainment there. Washing up facilities were inadequate for the amount of people on the site. Queued for ages for wash up as there was only one sink. 2 showers only so inadequate for the number of campers. It was great to have a fire although I was concerned about the safety aspects as the tents were so close together.
No noise problems at all. I would return out of season as I found it too overcrowded for my liking. I have decided that pre-marked out pitches are for me as whatever happens you know the amount of space you are getting! I did not like the fact that I was SO close to the next tent. Overall I would give it a 7/10 and would recommend for an out of season visit. Ironically, this was probably a perfect site before it appeared in Cool Camping and was less popular!

Just got back from a glorious Easter weekend camping at Cloud Farm (Doone Valley Holidays) campsite in Oare. The situation is glorious along a rushing stream with steep hills surrounding you on all sides. Dogs and campfires both allowed. Campfires a real novelty in this age of camping so really fun. If you don't like the smell of woodsmoke though you may not like it as we counted 14 campfires in our field alone on the Saturday night.
There are no real pitches so its first come first served if you want a riverside spot the fields (3 were open on this weekend) then do bed uphill making camping a bit difficult. The owners leave it very much up to the campers to fight it out I do think a bit more structure would make it easier on all when pitching and parking cars.
The shop/ cafe was brilliant, stocks everything you may need and the array of afternoon tea and cakes and of course scones and cream were fabulous. They also do a small menu of other dishes and great big bacon and egg baguettes for brekkie. There are great walks around the farm along with riding too and you are a short hop from the coast and the beautiful Exmoor scenery.
The only downside (and this is a seasoned festival and camper speaking) was the shower/toilet/washing facilities. They basically were not enough for all the camping space. 2 showers, 3 toilets each for men and women and only one washing up sink for the entire site. This is not enough especially as we were right at the beginning of the season with some of the Fields not open yet. I also felt that they were not cleaned often enough, I know floors get muddy but in the toilets and bathrooms overflowing bins that are too small and the sinks and toilets dirty. The shower system also is the most ridiculous I have ever come across with a fixed temperature system operated by the owners (it was scalding and very dangerous for kids I thought). You have to put the money in the slot (50p for 6 mins) that is near the door and rush back to the shower that you cannot turn on or off once in the shower you are at the mercy of the one way shower. It had me in tears on the first morning as it was burning me. The owner did turn it down but you could still hear people crying out and you cannot possibly get a fixed temperature that is suitable for adults and kids.
What is a great site I felt was let down by the shower facilities

This site is in an idyllic location in its own valley on Exmoor. The only access is up the (bumpy!) drive to Cloud Farm. Camping is on a series of fields, mostly along the river. Some pitches are flat, but it's a steep valley so some are not. This is one of the few sites where you can have an open fire. We had one every night and cooked over it too. This is a lovely experience for children (and others!). Stones are provided to build hearths, there was only one fire-bucket per field as far as we could see.
Cloud Farm doesn't take bookings and doesn't have marked pitches. They just open more fields when they get busy. If you arrive and the field looks full it might be worth asking if they'll be opening another one anytime soon. They squeezed us onto a very full field and them opened another one as soon as the tent was pitched.
At peak times this site imposes a whacking great surcharge if your tent is "too big" for the number of people. It's no mere 10% - they charge you for several extra people who aren't there. If you're a small family with a family-size tent it could actually be cheaper over a bank holiday to buy a couple of festival tents instead and just bin them when you leave.
We were there at a bank holiday and the site was packed with around 200 tents. The limited facilities held up well considering but it did make me wonder if the site should consider its pricing structure. They couldn't have packed more people in without having a major impact on the facilities. We came back one evening to discover a tent had been pitched so close to ours it was on our hearth. So it's not really like the big tents are wasting valuable space. We lit our fire elsewhere that evening but the crowding does make me wonder if there's a fire hazard.
There are 3 Ladies toilets and 2 showers and about the same in the Gents. Plus one disabled toilet (not locked). The showers have a strange arrangement of thick plastic vertical blinds and a chain that goes across with an "Engaged" sign on. Lockable doors would be a great improvement. There is plenty of hot water and loo roll is provided. The showers cost 50p for 6 minutes and the meter is across the room from the shower cubicle, so take a friend to put the 50p in the meter!
The river is fenced but it is easy to get access through the fence. There's a bridge across to a public footpath that leads to the village and up the valley to the moors.
There is one washing-up sink and one drinking water-tap. The queue to wash-up was so long we saw people using the drinking-water tap to wash dishes, which is not very hygienic. There is also a freezer, washing machine and dryer.
The shop is very well stocked but quite expensive. They sell logs for campfires at £5 a bag - the same bags can be found at local garages for £2.75 - £3. They sell cream teas and meals too, but we didn't try these. The horse riding starts at £20 for an hour's walk up the valley.
We did notice one or two groups talking all night and one group of early risers had a whistling kettle(!) but noise levels were pretty reasonable considering how packed the site was.
All in all, this is a lovely place to camp. Cooking on an open fire is magic. Walking and riding on the moors are life-enhancing experiences. But next time I'll bring me own wood and I'll be giving this site a miss at peak times. And I'll go earlier in the season to avoid pitching on patches of burnt grass.
There's a neighbouring site, also with fires, on an unfenced stretch of river but where you have to book. Campers looked thinner on the ground as we went past. They were fully booked.

Selected this camp-site from "Cool Camping Guide" and it was very much as described. We arrived early Friday afternoon so were able to select a great pitch next to the "bubbling brook" in the 3rd field of four. The river is now seperated from field with a small fence with lots of step-overs so its easier to partition your own private area and much safer for families with small children. Latecomers were forced to take pitches on the hill-side of the fields which were not flat and out of earshot of the stream. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by heather-covered hills on all sides, you can forget about the mobile phone or TV but instead try star-gazing - the isolation from everything else around you is quite breath-taking. The toilet/shower facilities are quite limited and fairly basic, could have been cleaned more often. However, they were not crowded in late Sept though I suspect you might have to queue in high season. The single wash-up sink in the utility area was frequently busy and there would probably be enough room to install a second sink to ease the conjestion. The shop sells just about everything and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Yes, it is very pricey but you would be daft to buy a weeks provisions here when there are much cheaper supermarkets and great local butchers, bakers etc in nearby Porlock. I would give this camp-site an 8/10 rating and will return for another long weekend, probably next year.
