This has to be the best holiday I've had in years. The welcome was brilliant, the tent was up and looking fab, and the most important thing of all my dog Charley enjoyed it. We stayed for 7 days and I can't wait for next year. The facilities were so clean and very well looked after. Couple of really nice pubs / restaurants that again allowed dogs so Charley was very happy. Met some really nice people, who I've stayed in contact with. If your looking for a welcoming, friendly and safe place for a holiday then Out in the Open gets 5 stars from me an Charley

If you are looking for beautiful scenery, peace and quiet, fabulous location and exceptionally welcoming hosts this really is the place to be. We just spent a week in the company of Dee, Cath and Daisy (dog / teddy bear) and loved every minute of our stay (oh how we wished it had been longer). Having endured an eight-hour journey to get there we were absolutely ‘tickled pink’ with what we found. For those of you who think its too far away, think again- it is so worth the trip.

After a very warm welcome from the girls and a detailed tour of the site, we found our spot and pitched up. Pitch sizes are very generous. No ‘cram them in like sardines’ policy here. Although there were other campers, we managed to have a whole field to ourselves! Fabulous! In fact the one thing we loved was the peace and quiet. Please don’t visit if you are looking for late night parties and wild shenanigans. The ethos here is about having a good time without disturbing other campers or the environment. At the end of the day it’s all a matter of respect and mutual consideration.

Campsite facilities are immaculately clean and here’s something we have never experienced before – loo roll, hand wash, a towel in the toilets, first aid kits, washing up liquid provided in the kitchen area and Aloe Vera plants for sunburnt ankles! Basically, Dee and Cath have thought of everything! Think of everything you ever wished other campsites provided and we can guarantee that the girls have already got it covered. A shoe sale every week is an added bonus (we would have bought more if we had room in the Jeep to get them home) and they even provide a free ice-pack freezing service – now that’s a first!

Almost everything is recycled and there is just a real sense of environment here. There’s nothing fanatical about the ‘green’ rules, just a basic respect for the world. Seriously, when you see this place you’ll immediately understand why Cath and Dee are so keen to look after it and if you don’t, then shame on you. Do not go there if you are not prepared to do your bit to help!

Cath and Dee are fabulous hosts and we really looked forward to our evening chats with them. They were genuinely caring and it was lovely to be asked if we had had a nice day. There is a certain personal touch with Cath and Dee that we have just never experienced at other sites. They are happy to offer a wealth of information on the local area and the best places to visit. We strongly recommend ‘The Handy Tea Shop’ by the way. It serves amazing cream teas and is a little quirky to say the least! Don’t be perturbed if the owner does a near nose-dive into the cream; this is all perfectly normal in this part of the world (or so we are led to believe).

We could go on about ‘Out in The Open’ for hours but it would be unfair for us to reveal all of its delights. To understand it is to experience it and having stayed there, we are extremely grateful to the girls for letting us share their amazing home with us. We will definitely be back next year, and the year after, and the year after…….Wow!

What a fantastically clean, relaxing and welcoming site.

The girls made us both feel extremely welcome, and made sure that everything was to our total satisfaction throughout our first of what will be many, many stays on this site.

It is in an excellent location for travelling round and seeing the touristy bits, but also quiet and peaceful on the site for days when you just want to chill on the farm.

Cath & Dee have an excellent knowledge of the best places to go, eg, the handy tea-shop, the deli, and, of course, where to go for the best sea-fishing trips!

It is delightful to find such a clean, quiet, peaceful and respectful site.

A lovely site within a peaceful location. Facilities very well kept and modern. Plenty of information for things going on out and about. Owners lovely and friendly - had a welcomed chat and tour from Dee and came to check on us later to check we was ok. Only downside (for us) was no chemical disposal facilities and when your so used to NOT HAVING TO RUN ACROSS THE FIELD AT 4AM it was a big one for us. Would def recommend this site for getting away from it all

Site was really well run. Owners were really friendly. Facilities were excellent and probably more than what I would expect and desire, I would prefer a reduced price with reduced facilities as I expect they are probably the best available for camping. There was up to date local information which was useful.

First visit to Cornwall and stayed for a couple of nights but had to leave for a job interview. Only a couple of other campers on site at time but they seemed nice.

Would definitely return but unlikely to be in area again soon and there is not much in Cornwall besides Eden and St Ives and would like to see more of st ives.

A really organised and well equipped site that I would highly recommend. The owners are really friendly and helpful, from being offered a cup of tea on arrival, a daily weather forecast and local events chalked up on a blackboard, and even rescuing a collapsing tent when needed (not ours!).

True there appear to be a lot of rules, but they are fairly straightforward and ‘common sense’ and easy if you recycle at home.

The site itself is easily the most luxurious and clean facilities-wise I have ever stayed in: free hot showers, washing up facilities, handwash in the loos, lovely. The site is also very pretty and in a good location.

We were made to feel very welcome – and it was great to meet other lesbian campers (there was plenty of opportunities to socialise but no obligation to do so).

My partner and I had a fantastic 10 day break here in August last year we were so impressed that we are going back this a year!

The camp site was really clean and had fantastic facilities.

I feel that the terms of booking were very fair

And that the owners expectations of all the campers were clearly stated at the booking stage.

One of the reasons we decided to stay there was because they encourage campers to be considerate of each other and not be noisy past 11pm. (the main reason being that we could be ourselves - of course!)

They provided a black board for campers to recomend local facilities to each other which proved really useful!

On arrival the owners helped us pitch our tent which was fantastic after our long journey!

Through out the holiday the owners were approachable and friendly despite the long hours of their day. They were always willing to chat, answer our queries and make recomendations for days out.

One of the things that I so loved about out in the open were the recycling facilities - this is a topic I feel is really important and they taught me things (including lending me a book on the subject!)

A truly holistic camp site which I would really reccomend!

We had a fantastic holiday here and can't wait for this year's visit! The toilets and showers were kept really clean and the owners work really hard to provide a friendly site both for the people, the animals and the environment! We had a crisis with our tent and Cath and Dee stepped in and saved our holiday!
The group BBQ's held in the barn are a unique way of making the campsite a more friendly place. Cath and Dee the owners could not have been more helpful or welcoming and we would reccomend this site to anyone wanting a quiet yet sociable base from which to explore this lovely part of the country.

Beautiful campsite with very clean and well maintained facilities.  Stayed for one week with my partner and a couple of friends and had a reasonably pleasant time!  The weather was appalling for the first couple of days, with lots of rain and clouds.  However, once the sunshine arrived all was well in the world.

Pleasing hosts but a little too over zealous about recycling!  I do like to do my bit for the environment and was happy to assist with the cleaning of our own recyclable waste but was not happy about being apprehended by one of the owners regarding dog waste being left in domestic waste.  There is a limit to the amount of personal knowledge one possesses with regards waste and septic tanks really aren't my thing!

According to other campers, comments regarding the nature of either their own recycling and minor issues were dealt with more sarcastically than in a manner that ought to be offered to paying visitors with the intention of returning.  Not a very practical ethos if you want people to re-visit!

My altercation should not deter anyone visiting this campsite as tensions were eased by avoiding the annoyance.  However, be mindful that although their own website advocates a friendly relationship with other campers, socialising and enjoying oneself in a large group is frowned upon and seen as being "clicky".

My advice is to visit this beautiful part of Cornwall but make sure you take a car and are prepared to travel to the coast.

Rame Stores at the top of the road (3 miles) is a very welcoming store.  I don't think I've met such a nice chap in years!

I stayed here with my partner for 5 nights.
We had excellent weather, and a lovely area to pitch in.
I particularly enjoyed chatting to the cows in the next field who came to spot the humans!

You need a car really to access this site, but all sorts of beaches and little towns are a short drive away.

Owners are excellent, they couldn't do enough for us. They ensured the campsite had a very friendly atmosphere, and were obviously very proud of their site.

Excellent facilities, including lots of Eco / recycling things going on.

I had an accident on my first day, as I fell over going down to the dingly dell type place. I turned my ankle in the smallest ever divet of grass you could imagine, but I had wine, sunshine and gay Barbies to keep me smiling.

A real must for any respectable gay camper!
