Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Overall the best camping holiday in years, the two wonderful hosts really have a passion for what they do. Everything was catered for and they made an extra special effort with our dog! Excellent clean facilities and kept to a very high standard at all times. Lovely and quiet just the place to go if you want a nice relaxing time. They even popped over to see how your day was and if you needed any help with directions etc. Overall I can't express enough how much we loved it here and have said that this will now be a permanent holiday destination for us! Thanks again mark, Chris and of course Walter! Xxx

Something has to be pretty special to prompt me to leave a review and Out In The Open exceeded all expectations. It was in the most wonderful peaceful location with the best camping facilities and the best hosts my husband and I have come across in the UK. If I could I would give them 15 stars!

The location was down a single track which made it wonderfully peaceful and quiet. It had lovely views across the fields and we didn't feel the lack of a sea view at all. The fields and surrounds were beautifully maintained and it was a pleasure to look at and walk through.

The facilities were exemplary - spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard continuously throughout our ten day stay. More than enough toilets and showers - both of very high standard - complete with hand wash and nice quality toilet paper and new electric showers which were free. The kitchen cleaning facilities were again better than anywhere else I have visited - providing dish wash liquid, brushes and washing bowls, plenty of room and well protected from the weather in what I presume was a very nicely converted old animal shelter. The rubbish facilities were great - offering recycling for everything. First aid kit, good clear safety advice/camp site rules and a decent sized covered barn for sheltering from the rain with a wonderful blackboard filled with great recommendations of places to go and things to do and where to eat locally. Games and books to use and share.

We chose to stay here because it seemed very dog friendly and this was indeed the case - it deserves to win the most dog friendly campsite ever as they have fully fenced fields where your pooch can run free while the main campsite is prudently on leash so everyone is allowed their space - it was fabulous and it made my heart sing to see how much our new rescue dog settled in and loved her temporary home.

Dee and Kath were fabulous - friendly and concerned when the weather came in, but still gave us space/privacy, always full of great advice when asked and cheerful whenever we saw them across the fields. They were absolutely great.

We can't pass comment on the child friendliness as we don't have any but if their patience and understanding towards dogs is anything to go by it will be great for kids - so long as they like open space to run around in and can entertain themselves as there isn't any kids equipment - its all for dogs! We can highly recommend a dog agility 'taster lesson' - it was the highlight of our holiday!

Overall I would wholeheartedly recommend this campsite to people wanting peace and quiet on their camping holiday. The nearest pub is a mile away which was fabulously welcoming and friendly and though the menu was very limited it was none the less delicious. There are so many fabulous options very close at hand if you want to drive, Falmouth is only 20 minutes away and it has everything you could need. The location was central to most sites and places Cornwall has on offer.

We wouldn't even consider camping anywhere else in Cornwall having stayed here - we wish we could go back again tomorrow!

If you don't like pitches where your guide ropes touch your neighbours. Then this is the place for you.

1. Stunning views.

2. Friendly, thoughtful owners.

3. Super clean facilities.

4. Dog friendly with amazing agility equipment.

5. Space and seclusion.

6. Excellent camp 'rules' which ensure quiet after 11pm (I hate trying to get to sleep with drunk laughter and partying. If you want this, go to a chain of campsites with no rules and thoughts for others. ).

7. Fantastic location near to beaches and Truro.

8. A narrow private drive but in and out times to try to prevent any reversing. If I can get down the lane in a medium wheel base Transit. Anyone can!

9. You may per person per night, so tent size or number does not matter.

We try to visit in most of our school holidays. It is a second home. Love it!

My partner and I recently stayed at Out in the Open for two nights with our two dogs. It was certainly worth the 9 hour drive to get there! We were given a very warm welcome and the site has excellent facilities. The very large exercise field was particularly great for our two big dogs to run around in.

The weather was glorious and although we popped out to visit one of the nearby beaches we quickly returned to the tranquillity of the site for a picnic and glass of wine in the sunshine.

It was great to relax and be ourselves amongst other gay campers. Don't think we've felt so relaxed on any other campsite - and we've stayed on a fair few! We'll definitely be returning to the site for a longer stay next season. Looking forward to it already!

My husband and I, along with our dog Emma, stayed at this campsite for 9 nights. I had read some reviews before picking the campsite, and on arrival we were not let down.

The campsite is accessed by a narrow farm track and is well signed. Before arriving, you are provided with the times of exit and entry into the campsite. This prevents you encountering oncoming traffic and one of you having to reverse. A very useful and practical way to gain access.

The camping field is a very large field and when we arrived there were only another 3 tents there. The next field down is a great dog exercising area (and a cordoned off area for the dog agility). The third field is where the owners have some shepherd huts to rent. At the bottom of the land, is a beautiful very large pond area with some wooden benches. A quiet oasis to spend some time as the sun goes down, or up!

The main facilities consist of a wonderful washing up area, with 4 sinks and many different bins for recycling and composting. Washing up liquid, sponges and brushes are all provided.

In the shower area there are 2 for women along with a changing area and wash basin. 1 shower for the men with 2 changing areas. There are 6 toilets in total. Although more people arrived to camp while we there, there was no point ever when we had to wait for a shower, and every time of day the water was piping hot. There were clean hand towels all the time, and handwash. How many times do you see that?

There's also a large barn area where you can socialise with other campers, sit out of the rain and generally relax. Although you can't cook in this barn, you can eat your dinner here. A very useful area with many noticeboards showing local places of interest, great places to eat, dates of local markets etc.

The owners were always available to provide help and advice and answer any local questions we had. At night, they took in our ice packs to refreeze as well.

We also availed ourselves of the dog agility course, arranging an hour session for £10. Our dog loved it and the training we had from the owners was very professional and fun at the same time. Well worth doing.

Overall, this was an amazingly run, friendly and personalised campsite. We were made welcome from the minute we arrived with a tour of the campsite, a run through of the rules (not many, but all worthwhile to ensure every camper has a great time), and a good chat about the local area. The owners, having dogs of their own, were very knowledgeable of local pubs where we could take the dog, local beaches, restaurants etc.

Within walking distance (or 2 mins by car) is a super pub, The Star Inn, with high quality food at affordable prices. And they love dogs too.

As I had my birthday during our visit, the owners put a happy birthday message up on the main noticeboard. They hold a regular BBQ on the weekend, and on that occasion had decorated the barn with balloons and banners.

We would thoroughly recommend this campsite to all types of campers. And if you have a dog, dogs are not just tolerated like in other campsites, they are truly welcomed.

This is a lovely, well thought out and managed campsite in a stunning location which will draw us back time and time again.

Considerate, immaculate facilities include the usual stuff, plus a barn for rainy evenings; ice block freezing and an impressive commitment to green camping - if you care about this issue you should definitely try this campsite.

The owners really put a lot of effort and thought into this campsite, and it shows. Dogs are welcome on the site, and there is a separate field for exercising them. We didn't have a dog with us and didn't feel in the least bit imposed upon by the canine guests.

An added bonus is out in the open's location, which is great for seeing things in the area, and within walking distance to the pub. It's down a single track lane but that, as everything, is well managed on a timed exit/entry systems - we didn't have to reverse once!

In short - try it!

Both the owners (Cath and Dee) were extremely welcoming and helpful. All facilities exceeded our expectations. Very clean and spacious toilets, showers and washing up area. Excellent rural location, and well suited to 'discerning gays' who appreciate the finer things in life.

There were clean hand towels in each of the 8 or so toilets. Toilet paper and soap were also provided. There is a very useful communal barn for socializing if the weather is bad, with sockets for charging mobile phones, cameras and other electrical equipment.

We were also given a guided tour of the Shepherds Huts and Teepee which are available for hire. All were very well furnished in a complementary style, and looked nice and cosey.

Everywhere we looked there were good additional little touches/extras which we haven't had on previous camp sites. Nothing was too much trouble in order to make our stay a very happy one. In fact Cath and Dee even offered to erect our tent for us too!

The site covers a lot of land which includes a short walk to a small nature reserve and pond. That said, it's only a 10 min drive to Helston through some of the best countryside in southern Cornwall. Ideal location for country walks too.

We found the 'camp rules' quite justified to ensure each others enjoyment and privacy of their own space, whilst respecting everyone else too.

We will certainly be returning, and would gladly recommend the site to our friends and like minded others.

Off the beaten track and a relatively ordinary well drained square field. One might think. Until you get see the small but impeccably clean and 'green' facilities, (free hot showers plug point and collection point for freezing ice blocks). Oh, and get to meet the owners, but certainly this place is far from ordinary.

Both Cath and Dee had an amazing warmth, humour and genuine helpfulness. A vast knowledge of the area and recommended sights and places to eat made our lives easier- With plenty of on site bumf to read too.

Located a short drive from local towns of interest such as Falmouth, Pentrith and Turo and a 20 minute walk to the local pub serving quality food at moderate pricing. This is a great haven for those who want to socialise/ mix with other campers in the barn or for those who just want peace and quiet. It is a respectable place and should be treated as such.

We spent a total of two weeks amid, sun, wind and rain and realised just how wonderful it was to be totally ourselves in a safe environment. Now the standard has been set we are wondering how an earth other sites will compare!

Good places to stay can be hard to find but “Out in the open” is a real gem. Set in beautiful countryside down a windy track the campsite on a farm is a great peaceful, secluded space to stay. If you want get away and chill, this is the place to go.

When we turned up we had a very warm welcome from Cath & Dee who let us give our two dogs a good run before booking us in and showing us around the sites facilities.

The site itself is easily the most well kept and clean I have ever stayed in. Free hot showers, washing up facilities and toilets were kept spotlessly clean all the time and were far better than we had expected.

We had planned on days out walking with the dogs every day but found with four fields to tire them out we rarely had to leave the site and spent most of our time relaxing.

It has been a great way to recharge our batteries and are planning to return when we have a free weekend as it was great being there.
