Lovely site with all the standard excellent Caravan Club facilities. Riverside pitches available, but the sunniest are towards the other side of site. 200m from site into the centre of this lovely old town on the edge of Exmoor. Interesting shops and some really nice pubs and cafes. Not easy to get to however, especially if you've a larger unit.

This is our second visit here, about 4 years apart. The facilities were nice and clean and the staff friendly & helpful - what you expect from the Caravan Club.

Nice views from the site and my husband really enjoyed the fishing. I was a bit disappointed by the off site walking, but still managed a shortish pleasant walk through fields alongside the R. Exe.

We love the games room here with its 1980's machines!

I stayed at this site during October half term, and was very impressed! The site is easy to find, and well signposted. Reception was good, and the wardens very friendly and helpful. I needed to service the MH, so was directed to the service point, then told to have a look around and choose a pitch.

The pitches are a generous size. At this time of year, only the hardstandings are in use. They are terraced, so all enjoy good views over the beautiful countryside. The top tier is nearest the road, so there is a little traffic noise, but it is not a particularly busy route.

The facility block is spotless! Nice and warm, great showers (no push buttons here, and controllable temperature!) and music as well. There is a small shop in reception for the essentials, and a good information point. There is a dog walk, and a nice little play park, but I didn't use either!

The wardens provide details of walks to Dulverton and Bampton from the site. Both worth a visit. While I was in Dulverton, I had a quick look around the CC site there. It is well placed for accessing Exmoor and the town, but it had a far more crowded feel than Lakeside.

Access to the site is straight forward with the entrance being directly off the A396.

Wardens very friendly and accommodating. The site has both hard standing and grass pitches, but hard standing only being used in the winter months.

The pitches are terraced and level with some being close to the road. Facilities were spotless.

The nearby Anchor Inn is dog friendly and serves decent food.

Orange and Tesco mobile signals a bit hit and miss and to watch TV you will need a booster cable to hook up.

Large dog walk on site, but can get a bit boggy after heavy rain.

A Co-op is in nearby Dulverton or for bigger supermarkets a journey to Tiverton is necessary.

This is a really lovely site. It is extremely clean with heated shower blocks with a radio playing. The pitches are well thought out. We had a fully serviced pitch and the caravans never overlook each other as they are staggered to give everyone a great view over the countryside. The staff are very friendly and run a well stocked shop. We hope to return very soon as the area offers lots to see and do, especially fishing as there is a coarse fishing lake about 5 minutes away through the back gate and game fishing lakes about 10 minutes drive away.

We have now stayed at this site a few times as it is good for a weekend as we don't live too far away. We love it here the lady wardens are very efficient and friendly they are always working keeping the site and facilities absolutely perfect. The shower/toilets etc are spotless as is the whole site. There is a good dog walk. The local pub is only a 5min walk where you can get a nice meal it is by the river and has a nice beer garden. The small town of Dulverton is a 10min drive away where there are some good shops that cater for all your needs. Would recommend this site we will definitely return.

This was our second visit to this site and last year we had a wonderful experience. See our review of May 2011. The site is still beautifully maintained and the facilities plentiful and spotless. The location is perfect and there are many wonderful places to visit. Our problem this year was with people on the next pitch not following caravan club rules. We asked the wardens to sort it out and they were very reluctant to do so. The wardens were then very frosty with us for the rest of our stay. Totally spoilt our holiday as we hate conflict. We won't be going there again and that is a real shame.

This was our first visit to any CC site and we were really impressed, from check in until leaving we had a most enjoyable stay. The toilets and showers were spotless at any time of day, the wardens were continually clearing and maintaining the site emptying bins etc.

The dog walk was on the small side, ok for smaller dogs perhaps, but not for a growing German Shepherd, though there were walks away from the site on the moors there was nothing close by that could be reached directly from the site. The paths on the dog walk were well defined paths and plenty of dog waste bins.

Be aware that the fishing lake is adjacent to the campsite via a gate but not owned by the cc site, dogs were not allowed around the lakes and you could only use a footpath through the land to reach the village pub.

We didn't use the play areas or see anyone on them except for one weekend.

The information room was full of details of local attractions and places to go.

Tarr steps as has been put on here previously was a lovely day out and we had an enjoyable meal at a very reasonable cost, Minehead, Porlock and Lynton and Lynmouth were all good days out as was the run down to Dawlish.

The 11 mile walk along the Great Western Canal was done over 3 visits walking about 7 miles each time (from 1 car park to the next then back again then starting the next walk from the car park we previously walked to) though at the canals end there is nothing there, we were hoping for at least an ice cream, the canal just stopped at what would have been a set of lockgates.

The beaches at Blue anchor and Dunster allowed dogs on them but the best by far was the beach at Saunton Sands a huge beach with loads of surfers with room for everyone the dog and I enjoyed a splash in the surf even in late September! The only comment be prepared for the parking charge of £5 per day or part of. OUCH.

This is a lovely site that has plenty to do for most people within the surrounding area though remember that even getting to minehead about 18 miles away takes about 40 minutes due to the road network, nowhere was far away but everywhere took an age to get to.

The location of the site is wonderful, in a beautiful part of Exmoor and lovely views from the pitches. Full marks to the very hardworking wardens who are a credit to the Caravan Club, and who keep the excellent facilities constantly clean.

Our only negative to this particular site is that the grass pitches were struggling with the volume of water which had been deposited from above during the past couple of weeks. It appears that the water table was full and the rain water was seeping up from the ground rather than draining away.

All the hardstandings were taken when we arrived and whilst we normally prefer grass we have to admit that even we struggled to keep the mud at bay on our grass pitch as the days progressed and the rain kept coming!

However we had a very enjoyable few days despite the weather. Dunster Castle is well worth the visit, particularly the grounds. Also the West Somerset Railway - (we went from Minehead to Watchet), which was great fun and full of nostalgia with the old fashioned railway stations, steam trains etc.

Watersmeet is very pretty and worth a look, as is Lynton and Lynmouth where there is a fantastic exhibition of the 1952 floods and how it affected the town. It rained so hard the day we were there we almost thought it could happen again!

You need to be prepared to drive for a minimum of 45 minutes to get to the north coast from Lakeside, or 30 minutes to go to Tiverton. The roads are narrow and twisty and therefore you need to be patient with your journey.

There is also a stunning drive across the moors through Dulverton via Simonsbath to the coast - a B road but straighter and quieter than the A road previously mentioned.

There is plenty to do in this part of the world providing you are prepared to get out and about. Alternatively if you want somewhere just to chill out for a few days and enjoy the surroundings then Lakeside is recommended.

Yes we would definitely return - hopefully to some drier weather!

A said before a lovely site, from the moment you arrive you feel the kick back and relax well over you.

The wardens work very hard to ensure you have a good stay, helpful and friendly.

Toilet block is kept very clean and tidy.

A footpath walk to The Anchor pub is worthwhile it does a good sunday carvery at lunch and evening, opening times etc in site info room.

For a nice drive (not towing) take the B3223 to Simonsbath then pick up the A39 and return along the coast past Minehead and pick up the A396 to return back to the site.

A big plug for Lily Mays Tea rooms in Lynton, just up the hill from the town centre car park, serves lovely food at what we thought were keen prices, they welcome well behaved dogs inside which is a big plus for us.

We used the late night arrivals area which is nice and level and water/waste close by.

Site also has a play area but the noise cannot be heard too much.

A good dog walk nearly fenced all around.

All in all a great site in a peaceful location, we will be back.
