Absolutely fantastic
The very best camp site we have ever been too.
Geoff and Hazel were fantastic, helpful and run a very good, clean site.
Wonderful panoramic views, lovely peaceful site and immaculate showers, toilet block with lots of hot water.
The fox and pheasant is welcoming with great real ale and fantastic home cooked food. Owner couldn't do enough for us
Avoid the other pub around corner - the dukes head! Unfriendly staff, ,

Just returned from an enjoyable weekend at this site. Received a friendly welcome. All well kept and good showers with plenty of hot water.
Pleasant distant views over open countryside. Our collie particularly enjoyed the large field available to exercise dogs, for her ball chasing games.
Not a horse fly in sight. In fact no horses. We were informed that there have been no horses there for approx. Ten years.
We will definitely use this very nice site again.

We stopped here for one night as a stopover and were pleasantly surprised. It's a small farm in a country lane with very clean toilets, showers and washup facilities with constant hot water. There is electricity to all pitches.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
The pitches are grass, slightly sloping with beautiful views of fields all around. Big separate field to let dogs run.
There is an adjoining swimming pool (indoors) that can be used by arrangement.
We would recommend this site.

Not for us I'm afraid. Scenic enough location with nice views but not much in the local village and hilltop site too windy to be comfortable. In addition, we found the site plagued by black horse flies which gave a nasty bite and made it uncomfortable to be outside in.
The site was very well kept and had immaculately clean toilet blocks but seemed to be a working stud farm too which might explain the presence of the horse flies.
The owner was great at replying to emails and dealing with the bookings but flies spoiled it and seemed to plague the nearby riverside walk too. I guess that's the draw back of being in the country.
We like being able to undertake moderate cycling but this area was too hilly. Not an area or site I'd personally return to.

Fabulous site.
Very warm welcome from Hazel on arrival.
Slight slope on site is not a problem at all, 360 degree views of lovely countryside, all facilities spot on, even has a large washing/washing up sink with unlimited hot water.
We had the place to ourselves for most of our seven night stay, so quiet and peaceful, owls hooting, wood peckers pecking, great weather (lucky us), what more could you want.
The Eden valley is a wonderful, undiscovered area, great for walking and cycling, our car only moved off site once!
Armathwaite is a charming village, lovely river crossing, small shop, post office, two great pubs and best of all a station on the Leeds to Carlisle (via Settle) railway so you can visit other areas too without using the car.
The very few people we met out walking or in the local villages were so friendly and helpful we had to pinch ourselves in case we were dreaming.
We will return.

We had a week there, and for the most part were the only ones staying on this well kept site. It had clean and perfectly adequate ablutions, and despite the slightly sloping ground we were able to orientate our caravan to optimise the lovely views. Due to the elevation it is rather exposed and wind could be a problem; but not for us on this visit.
The owner, Hazel, came to greet us upon our arrival and made us feel very welcome. It was a great base for exploring the area, and although the swimming pool / gym was well used, it was far enough away not to be a disturbance. A very well appointed and well cared for site. Thank you Hazel for an enjoyable stay.

We visited may bank holiday and can thoroughly recommend this site. The site is quite small and we have a very large tent but we had plenty of room this particular weekend. The shower/toilet block is compact but was clean and the water was hot. The Washing up area was clean with hot water. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and the site ideally situated for day trips out to Hadrians wall, the fells, and the lake district. The village of Ainstable is about a mile away with a pub, and Armathwaite is just under a mile away the other way with two pubs and a railway station (Carlisle £4 return). There is a lovely riverside walk starting from the Fox & Pheasant.
Hazel was very friendly and made us really welcome.

After reading the reviews about this site my wife and I spent a lovely weekend here. We were the only ones using the camping facilities at the time.
A good size area for the six electric hook up points with good access into and out of the site.
The owner was very friendly.
Shower and WC facilities were very good.
Waste and waste water disposal points were good and the fresh water supply tap is central to the camping area.
Superb views and wonderful wildlife, we saw a buzzard perched nearby, rabbits around the camping area and the nearby pigs had a litter of piglets (we almost missed the pigs, never heard them at all and only saw them by chance).
The leisure facilities were popular with a surprising number of people/cars coming and going while we were there. (we didn't use these facilities so can't comment further).
The site was Ideally located for our day trip into Carlisle and I must recommend the pub in the nearby village of Armathwaite. The landlord is a very nice chap and more importantly his beer is good.
The Post Office in the same village also sells some basic provisions including chocolate.
A couple of points to note:
1. This location can get very breezy as it is in an elevated position (if you can you should try and park your car so it acts a a bit of a wind breaker.
2. Take a torch with you. When it gets dark you will struggle to to find the WC as there are no outside lights.
Recommendation - This site is now in our favourites list. It is ideal for a quiet break in the country.

Small but perfect site to get away from it all, we had it to ourselves over the New Year. The views are superb and it is situated in pleasant walking countryside. The site owners were friendly and helpful especially as the site was frozen due to several days of sub-zero temperatures. We were able to use the showers and toilets of the adjacent, excellent indoor swimming pool. I can't comment on the normal site toilets and showers but I would imagine them to be adequate, clean and well cared for, as is the rest of the site. Local pubs serve good food and beer and have a warm and friendly atmosphere. Ainstable has a small Post Office / Stores for the basics. Would advise that you take relevant O/S maps for the area as none could be found to purchase locally.

Fantastic site. Quiet and peaceful. We were there over the bank holiday weekend and there was a maximum of 8 units. Although three only stayed one night. There is a very large field to run the dogs all fully fenced. The toilets and showers are clean and hot water in abundance. The site is in a good location for walking or touring as Carlisle and Penrith are within 30 mins travelling, the lakes being a little further. Hazel welcomed us and then left us in peace. She made us feel welcome and came round when we were packing to wish us a safe journey. We certainly recommend this quiet adult only site.
