Great little site within easy walking distance of the village where you can find the Fox and Pheasant where you can get great food at reasonable prices. The site facilities are of a reasonable standard with just about the best showers you would expect to find on a camp site and because of the size of the site you should never have to queue. Geoff and Hazel were unable to meet us on our arrival, but came to see us as soon as they returned to the site and made us very welcome. Geoff even invited me to see his treasured collection of old motorcycles. The swimming pool and gymnasium is a great extra and can be hired out to for 1 to 4 people per hour and at £14 off peak and £15 on peak is great value. So don't forget your swimwear.
The only downside was tractor and vehicle noise quite early in the morning, but don't let that put you off.

Fantastic Site. This was our first camping trip without our 3 kids, and im glad we chose this site. It sits at the top of a hill between two villages (both within walking distance of the site). The field is big enough for around 8 units probably. There are 2 toilets and showers, which are in a portacabin at the top of the field - dont be put off, because they are spacious and comfortable, with some of the best showers I've ever had camping. Because of the small size of the site too, you never have to queue. Its a fantastic little site, in a beautiful part of England. Nearby, the Fox and Pheasant pub serves some of the nicest food I've had and at reasonable prices too, and the portions are enormous. Also we had the dog with us and he was allowed into the pub and the lounge area where we ate. Very friendly owners of the pub too. The site owners were also very friendly and came down to say goodbye when we were packing up. On our first night the rain was coming down like nothing else I've heard, yet the ground the next morning was absolutely fine and well drained. The couple in the tent next to us told us that it was even heavier the night prior to our arrival, so heavy rain does not equal mud on this site, which is a blessing. I only have one small gripe. The swimming pool! Its far too expensive to use if there's only 2 of you. It was around £16 for an hours swim - although you have exclusive use of the pool. Still I feel too expensive. I would have thought that campers would have got reduced rates, but I was too polite to ask. Don't let that put you off though. This site is a little slice of heaven. Nearest towns are Penrith and Cumbria - both great for shopping, sightseeing and eating out. Well worth a visit, I cant wait to go back!

Lovely site, beautiful location and helpful hosts. Swimming pool busy most of the day but visitors to it don't spoil the tranquillity too much. Access could be a little difficult but only on your first visit! Great spot from which to explore the Lakes, Carlisle etc.

Lovely site !
Im torn here becaue I want to keep this little gem of a site all to myself.
We stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and we couldnt have had a more peaceful relaxing break.
The owners Geoff and Hazel are lovely, genuine people who make you feel extremely welcome. Hazel even kindly rescued our supper on the first night which had not thawed during the trip as planned.
The site its self is in a beautiful location with stunning countryside all around with an excellent dog excersize field right next to the camping field. The toilet /shower block was very modern and clean with heaters and extremely powerful showers, free too! You dont normally get anything as nice as this on a CS, we felt spoilt.
The area is fantasic for walking, we would have liked to stay longer to visit more places and enjoy more walks but we crambed as much into the weekend as we could. We visited the Talkin Tarn park, with its a lovely large lake (excellent for dogs who love to swim )and surrounding well maintained woodland and had excellent toilet facilities, a boat launch and places to eat, a very nice day out. The walk along the river is also really nice with some lovely views. We also managed to walk part of Hadrians wall too, which was nice although rather windy !
A short walk away is a pub called the Fox and Pheasent, fab meals and huuuuge portions! Dogs are welcome too.
Cant wait to get back there again ( provided the grandparents are willing to have the children again ;) )
*Oh. One final thing! Ignore the Satnav!
It took us well past the site and into the next village?!?*

This is a fab site - small and perfectly formed. The views are great, the loos clean and the showers put many big sites to shame. You're made most welcome by Hazel and Co. There are plenty local walks, 2 pubs 10-15 walk away and theres the swimming pool right next door. You can book it all to yourself. Follow the easy directions publicised on the www for Faugh Head. We will certainly be back - highly recommeded.

Just back from a weekend break in Ainstable, a very nice and peaceful site. Being on top of a hill and open it was very windy with gust's recorded of 90+ mph, the van was rocking and sometimes felt as if it was lifting off the ground! The owner's thoughtfully parked a huge tractor behind the van for the duration of our visit to shelter us from the worst of it. The toilet block was just that - a toilet, sink and shower which is brilliant. We didn't get to use the pool which can be booked by the hour but it is very popular with people coming and going all day.
There are 6 hook ups and it is mostly level but there is the odd slopey bit but nothing a wedge can't sort out.
The campsite field is fully enclosed and a further fully fenced field next to it is a dog's heaven.
The site is a good base for visit's to Carlisle, Penrith and much of the north Lake District.
We will be going back to this one!

What a very nice site and situated in a very nice spot. I went with my Parents for a week end stay.
The site is sloping but near the gate there's enough room for about 5 vans and its quite flat there. You could use the upper part of the field if you did not want to erect an awning, and had some blocks.
Toilets and showers where spotless and plenty of warm water, one down side is if it gets busy there would be queuing as there is only two toilets and two showers.
The owners where very relaxed and just left you in peace, which was good as this is an adults only site.
Great pub food just down the road at the Crown Inn but be warned .Be hungry when you go because the portions are huge. Also if you go back in to Armathwiate village there is the Cock & Pheasant Pub with great food.
Excellent walks are all over the place from this location so take your walking boots.
I am definitely going back to this site 5 stars for me.

A smashing site. Excellent facilites although did not get the chance to use the pool but it seemed popular with the locals. Easy walking distance to the New Crown Inn at Ainstable, nothing fancy on the inside, traditional local bar but does have seperate restaurant and food was v good. Dogs can go in bar.
Lovely warm welcome on arrival and as previously posted there is an adjacent huge field for dogs to exercise in.
We only stayed one night but would consider for longer in future.

Me and my husband visited this site as first time campers on August bank holiday weekend. Hazel who runs this site is really nice. The site is small and we talked to everybody who was staying here, everyone was so helpful. The toilets/showers were clean and the showers were power showers I think they were wonderful. A really nice peaceful place to stay, if your a dog owner then this is wonderful as there is a field for you to walk your dogs in as well as as the surrounding areas. I would recommend this site to anybody who needs somewhere to relax and enjoy the views.
