Continuing our North Coast 500 expedition, this was the second site we stopped at, doing the route in a clockwise direction.

It's a steep little road down to this site, which is primarily a large square of grass next to the river. There are 3 hook up points dotted about, each with 4 sockets, although 1 was apparently being used permanently by a yurt located in the corner and is used for holistic and spiritual treatments, none of which is to my taste, but everyone to their own. The ground is reasonably flat and pitches are on a first come first serve basis, where you're left to find your own spot. We had no difficulty, as there was only one other unit when we arrived and it remained that way for the first of our two nights there. The second night (Friday) was busier with a mixture of motorhomes, caravans and tents, but it was by no means full.

Facilities - somewhat basic, but clean, with the outside of the toilet block resembling an old public toilets building from yesteryear. The Gents toilets had 2 cubicles and a shower room along with 2 sinks for washing dishes. The Ladies had 2 cubicles, a separate shower room and 1 sink for dishwashing. There is also a disabled/unisex shower room on its own. I found the water to be hot eventually as the hot water taps are the type you have to hold down before they turn themselves off, but the showers were electric and although not the most powerful, they were fine and did the job.

A washing machine and tumble drier are also available at £3 each, although there is a whirly gig located next to the toilet block, for when the weather is nice.

The reception wasn't that easy to find, despite the sign, as it seems to be part of someone's house. Eventually I found it with a note in the window saying that Jase, the site foreman was away and instructions were to park up anywhere. He arrived on site a short time later, in a marvellous yellow and black van, which he lovingly refers to as the Venga Bus. He takes your money, etc, unless like us, you've previously booked and paid online.

At the top of the drive there is a general store which proudly states it is the Last Shop before Inverness/ Ullapool (depending on which way you're travelling). It sells groceries, newspapers and the great marketing ploy that is North Coast 500 tee shirts, which I happily fell for.

A short distance further west there's a Forestry Commission walk and cycle series of trails which were good fun and to the north east there's the village of Strathpeffer, which is well worth a visit.

Being next to the river, there were a few midgies starting to put in an appearance, but the steady breeze kept them in check and I have only one bite to report after the the two days.

Overall the site was basic, clean and convenient. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome, but must be on a lead at all times and there is a very basic children's play area (2 swings and a chute), but don't forget the meditation classes every Wednesday morning in the yurt! Peace man xx

Lovely river but not much of a view for us as the hook up pitch had a tent directly in front of us and a holiday chalet directly behind us!

The owners were really lovely people and told us the hotel up the hill was dog friendly. So we wandered up there in our rather grubby walking gear and finished up having a scrummy dinner in a rather posh bar. The owner offered to put our dogs in his office so we could sit in the restaurant! All the other guests were immaculately turned out and we looked like the poor relations, but everybody was so welcoming - well worth a visit.

Sadly we found the campsite facilities rather lacking, including running out of soap and toilets rolls. Old and not as clean as I would have liked - couldn't bring myself to use the shower. And please Martyn pick up the grass cuttings! Our motorhome and the toilets etc were full of them.

Would we go back? Probably not, which is a great shame as the site had so much potential and a bit more TLC would make a huge difference.

Don't know how come the people who stayed in August only paid £7 we were charged £17!

We loved this site. We arrived for a week and stayed for two. The riverside location is a delight and the views are great.

There's easy access all directions to loads of things to see and do. Lots of excellent forest walks just over the road. Rogie falls are very near, as is Strathpeffer and Inverness is very convenient too.

The facilities were just fine. This is not a big posh site and the reasonable prices reflect. Everything was clean and functional, lots of hot water, clean loos and showers, frequently replenished loo rolls, hand towels, hand soap (these basic things often get overlooked).

There's a large football ground adjacent for children/dogs to run around.

Very well stocked shop open till 7 p. M just at the entrance.

The owners, Martyn and Deborah, were welcoming and extremely helpful.

We saw the Heron but, sadly, not the otter.

All-in-all we would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Riverside.

We last visited this site twenty years ago. It was closed for a long time and is now under new ownership.

The site is by a pleasant river. So the midges can be fierce. But the location is worth it. It is a small site with basic facilities. But they include hot water and showers in the fee of £7 a night. There is a small shop just outside.

Martin and Barbara are helpful and friendly. Now on our repeat list.

We dropped into this lovely little site for one night and ended up staying for 3. Nothing fancy but everything we needed or wanted. Our visit coincided with the tail end of hurricane Bertha so we mostly hunkered down and watched the river rise and the owners fight a never ending battle with the mud being trodden into the showers. A perfect base for exploring this part of Scotland and a well stocked village shop at the site entrance help make this a perfect stop for any length of stay.

Lovely little site. Local store right by the entrance carrying most things you will need. Gorgeousness views over the river and into the hills and mountains beyond.

Relaxed pitching allowing you to chose your location with mindful respect to other campers.

Gazebo provided for this with smaller tents to use for eating/cooking etc if the weather takes a turn.

Ground is very rocky (to be expected by a river) so my only advice would be to take a selection of spare pegs. The investment in a few pegs is well worth the views and relying atmosphere.

Great base for visiting the attractions of Scotland. Loch Ness not far away, easy access to the whisk yep trails and the moray tourist routes. Jon-o-groats a nice run out up the A9 which you are on within a few minutes of leaving the site.

I especially liked the toilets where each 'cubicle' is kore of a room with your own sink and mirror allowing you to get ready in private in the mornings :)

Inverness is half an hour away if you need anything major whilst away.

Would definitely come back here and stay for longer next time, there is so much more I would like to do in the area.

I arrived at his fantastic looking camp site on the 02 may 2014 with intent to stay till Monday 05 but unfortunately I had to leave due to ill health in the family so my review is about my stay for the 24 hours there. Well thanks to the owners for fantastic time and brilliant hospitality.

The camp ground itself was just what we were looking for, good bit off ground nice and secluded.

Now when it comes to the toilet review (people have different opinions) my opinion is that is clean and tidy all the time and nice hot water from the taps and showers my wife agrees. My 8 year old was playing on the slid and swings and enjoyed it. There was a cold water tap at the bottom middle off the field that was very handy.

There was a nice little village shop at the entrance off the camp site. Thanks again for a wonderful stay and I will be back this time with my sister and her family as well. Lovely river at bottom of the site, looks like a set from Canada!

Just got back from a fantastic week at this site. This is the second time we have visited this year. From a family that never usually go to the same place consecutively especially in the same year that is saying something. We also plan to go for 2 weeks next year.

If you want 5 star facilities then don't bother with this site but if you want peace and tranquillity with friendly staff then this is the place for you.

The position next to the river is great and there is plenty to do and see. The toilets/shower block is basic but very clean. The pot washing facilities are based in the men's toilets which may be a problem for some but if I'm doing the cooking it is only fair the men do the washing. The owners are addressing this.

The owners are great hosts and will help whenever they are able. I was unsure I was going to write a review for this site as I was worried they would be inundated but it is not often you find a gem of a site and this is certainly one. Please don't change things too much. We have fallen in love with Scotland and if we lived nearer we would visit more. Thank you.

We spent two weeks at this site in a large tunnel tent with electric hookup, and I must say we were really impressed, the area is stunning and well located for a lot of local attractions, we had our four children with us on the site aged from 3-14 and they all loved it and found lots to keep them amused whilst on site. Although the shower block is basic, it works, its cleaned, it has hot water, really what else do you need ? as long as you realize you are visiting a campsite and not a five star hotel you will not be disappointed.

The staff took our stay to another level with there friendly and helpful attitude, they really made our stay memorable buy amongst other things arranging for a local piper to play for my daughter birthday BBQ, that was something special for her.

The surrounding area offers lots to see from waterfalls, mountains & dolphins to loch Ness or shopping in Inverness, loads for all types of interests.

The well stocked shop at the top of the site caters for most things you could need whilst on the site. There is also a yurt on site where the owner runs a variety of workshops from hide tanning (booking only) to Buddhist chanting (which my wife and eldest daughter loved), they and the local area just offer so much I cant say enough good things.

All I can say is try it you wont be disappointed.

We stopped here on our way to the Highlands for one night but made an immediate decision to stay longer. The facilities were out dated and one shower (out of three) was out of action but the setting was fantastic and I would have happily wild camped there if I could.

The site is on an unspoiled section of river and you can even have a campfire in the designated area which would be communal I guess.

There is a good General store at the entrance, tyre swings and slide for the kids. The river could be a problem for smaller children. There are now some hook-up points on the perimeter fence as well as in the middle. There is a Yurt on the site which hosts courses and seminars at weekends although we were there mid week.

If you like piped music gravel WiFi and heated toilet blocks move on. Otherwise a fantastic site!
