Stayed in the Cairngorms (2 bedroom bungalow) on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th November 2012. Total cost for two nights was £76. The owners have recently taken over the site and are refurbishing the chalets. We were a party of three and the 3 bed bungalow wasn't ready yet but they put another bed in the 2 bed chalet for us (which was fine).
I had concerns about whether it would be warm enough, but the owners put extra heaters in each room and the bungalow was nice and cosy. The decor is new and modern and had all the facilities we could want - clean bathroom with hot shower, modern kitchen appliances and satellite tv with DVD.
The electricity is paid for by card but these were provided by the owners and included in the price - much better value than the £29 we were charged for a similar sized house on Skye in June !
We didn't get to meet the owners but the booking was easy and entry to the house arranged over the phone. We liked the welcome pack and the fact that basics were provided eg. the first pint of milk and washing up liquid - all things which are pain to find if you turn up without them. The chalet we were staying in was a the top of the site with a good car park and lots of turning space but consequently I can't say anything about the rest of the site down by the river and we didn't use any of the other facilities eg. toilet block/showers etc.
The location is in the middle of Contin just off the main road so is easy to get to and all destinations are within easy reach. We used Contin as a base to climb some more Munros and within 30-45 minutes you can get to Glen Affric, Glen Cannich, Glen Strathfarrar - we chose to go north to Glen Carron.
The Scottish Highlands are on your doorstep but civilisation in the shape of Contin, Strathpeffer, Conor Bridge and Inverness are all within a short drive. This is a new venture for the owners and they seem to be investing in the business for the long term so I hope that others will give them a chance.

This site has just re-opened after 2 years of being closed I think. Owners were very helpful and relaxed, It really is a beautiful location next to the River Blackwater with a backdrop of woodland and hills.
As the owners said they are hoping to improve all the facilities before next season and had only opened 3 days ago when we had arrived. The facilities were basic but still adequate and I look forward to seeing the improvements they male over the coming months as I will definitely be back next year.
The site is easy to find on the main road to Ullapool and is located in the village of Contin, a small supermarket is just outside the gates which is convenient. Also there is a bus stop just outside with regular buses to Dingwall and Inverness.
There are plenty of places to visit in the locality such as Strathpeffer, Rogie falls and Strathconon glen. Wildlife spotting includes the salmon ladder at Rogie falls, Tollie Red kites, and large herd of deer in Strathconon. Also on site we saw 2 Herons fishing in the river.
It is an ideal base for exploring the Highlands as it is centrally located. I would recommend this site for anyone who likes peace and quiet and wildlife.

Site now under new ownership for 2012, and has reopened. It has been closed for a couple of years now, so facilities are basic but they aim to improve them before next season.

Site is level and beautifully situated on riverbank with free fishing. Grass is regularly cut. Very peaceful.
There is a very narrow entrance to site with a steep drop to the site care required.
Toilets and showers are basic but adequate with what appears to be work on going. One shower for each sex.
Dish washing facilities are in the male toilets so guess who was washing the dishes each night.
2 swings and chute for kids to play on with a football pitch close by which can be viewed from site.
Electric hook ups are along centre of site.
Prices for pitch very reasonable at £14.50p per night including electric but to fill your motorhome with water on first occassion costs £3.00p.
No local information on site.
Lovely walks close by. Watch slmon leap at Rogie Falls. Lots of fishing.
Hotel approx. 1 mile away.
Excellent village shop at entrance to site.
We will visit this site again.

On our tour of the highlands we only spent one night here.
I could not fault the location. Level ground next to the playing field for our tent and the river running past made this site so peaceful, however after inspecting the condition of amenities ie showers we we knew that we were not going to be staying long.
Although the site fees were not expensive we did stay in other sites that offered value for money.
I feel that with a little attention to the amenities then more would return

Although we had passed the site on various occasions this was our first visit. It is in the centre of the village on the main road to Ullapool/Inverness. The entrance is between a shop and a chalet, which can be a bit tight depending on the size of your caravan/motorhome, and then down a steepish narrow lane to the camping area. Half way down this lane are a couple of fence posts which again means you have to be dead centre on the way down. Taking your van out can be a bit 'fun' as it is a good test of your driving skills and the power of your car.
The setting is very picturesque - a river running along the bottom of the camping field with some trees. The camping field is just that - no set pitches, just pitch up where you want. There are 4 electric sockets in the middle of the field with a couple of other socket blocks at the edges. You may need an extension, depending on where you pitch. The field is relatively level. The tents seem to camp along the fence beside the village playing/football field.
The facilities are basic but clean and seem to be in the process of being worked on. New doors in the toilets, but only a couple of showers which wasn't a problem during our visit as the site was quiet but expect queues when it gets busy.
The site is well positioned for touring the north of Scotland. Lots of walks, mountain biking trails and golf courses within 30 mins drive. Inverness is about 20 minutes drive away or you could take the bus from outside the shop.
The local shop is handy but a bit expensive. There is a Tescos in Dingwall a 10 minute drive away, as well as other local shops. There are 2 hotels in the village of Contin which do meals for non-residents but we never tried them out.
The site has been there for years and with a little bit of work it could be a 'gem' but the entrance will have to be changed before we go back.

Quite a basic site but only £12.50 for 2 adults electric and awning. Also includes free fishing on the site,100 meters up river and it costs £20 to fish.Fully stocked shop and post office on site.Very quiet with a dozen or so statics who's residents are very helpful.Toilet, showers and laundry all in one block. . . My opinion is a bargain of a site and have been many times.
