We've just returned from 2 weeks at le marais. It's a very pretty, well kept site, level grassy pitches. All of the amenities are located around the chateau so its very relaxing to be able to sit in the bar and look across to the pool, the chateau and the lovely gardens and lawns. The toilets, showers and washing up areas were kept clean and had hot water, soap, loo roll. I didn't have to queue at all. I think the site is really geared towards primary school aged children and there wasn't really anything geared towards our 2 teenagers (they did really like it there though!. A 5min walk away is the loire which is absolutely beautiful and just across the river is the town of mer. Both mer and the village of miides sur loire are pretty low key but blois 20km away is beautiful and well worth visiting. The area is great for cycling and we didn't take the motorhome off the pitch for the whole 2weeks, we walked or cycled. A lovely site and fantastic location, recommended! 1 last thing, some of the site staff need to go on customer services course and be happier and more obliging and long queues in the shop early morning.

This is a good site, but think carefully whether it is for you.
It is well located for Chambord, Cheverny, Blois and Amboise, and being flat and at the edge of the Chambord forest park, is great for cycling, but the area is far less picturesque than downstream of the Loire.
On site, the facilities are comprehensive and very good, and the pool area would put many leisure centres to shame. The signage indicating them to be unsupervised appears to be taken as an instruction by some, however, with inevitable and clearly painful consequences. And that is also true of the site roads, which are also great for cycling/scooting around on, regardless of your sense of balance, safety etc!
The shop is good, but you pay a reasonable mark-up for the convenience. Supermarkets are not too distant however.
Tent pitches are a pretty good size, and all shaded to a greater or lesser extent. Our standard pitch took an Indian Lake, tarp, car and still left room for a seating area. They are well used, however, and ground conditions on ours was poor.
The site has many key camp type chalets, and often has more of a resort atmosphere than campsite. The poolside sunloungers are often all bagged by towels first thing which is just sad (and no national stereotypes - this site is overwhelmingly English, to it's detriment, as it feels a bit detached ). This is a very busy site, and it can all get a bit rammed.
The number of WC blocks means you are never far from one, and we never had to queue ( clean and plentiful hot water, too). This also means more pitches next door to them, though (and to the well appointed kiddy play areas). Some are really just poorly situated, and maybe just for overnighters, although our pitch was in a really quite nice spot.
This site clearly suits some families absolutely perfectly, where I have no doubt holiday nirvana can be achieved. A little less so for us, but this seemed to be the best site in the area we wanted to be in, and I still think that's the case. On the final analysis we felt it just lacks a bit of charm, which is unusual for the Loire region which has it in spades.

Very good campsite for families. Family of five with three kids aged 13, 8 and 6. The campsite is probably 70% English 20% Dutch and 10% French. There is a lot of EuroCamp and KeyCamp plots on site. The site has approx. 200 plots but is well spaces out with high hedged plots and a large open space for playing etc so is doesn't feel that big. Here is our summary of the site and surrounding area.
Check In/Customer Service:
Very professional and quick, English speaking team had us on or pitch within 15mins of arriving. Tripped electric problem sorted within 15mins of it being reported, very efficient team.
Tourist Information:
Very efficient with English speaking team. Well stocked with leaflets for things to do in the area.
Our Plot:
Excellent, you could have fitted two of out six man tents on the plot plus the car and trailer and still had room for more. No issues with rules on where to pitch the tent or which way the caravans had to be placed. We had electricity (needed a French to UK adaptor) and water one meter from the boundary. Our plot was very close to the playground which was perfect for us, but some of the others were a bit further away, and we noticed some of the others were a bit cramped in with lots of KeyCamp and EuroCamp chalets. The Plot was surrounded by mature trees giving some shade during the day.
The Pool:
Excellent heated pool with two slides double bump slide and 'lazy river' plus two pools. But you needed to get there early to get a lounger. The kids loved it
The playground:
Well equipped kids playground and table tennis table. Kids loved it
Washing/Toilets:
Excellent Clean and well maintained washing facilities. Mixed sex showers with proper taps with very good water pressure, not the cheap push for 5 seconds buttons. Water temperature a bit erratic, but not a problem for us as it was so hot!
Bar/Takeaway/Restaurant:
Bar prices, 10Euros for pint of beer, glass of wine and a coke, takeaway pizza 9euros, restaurant 21euros a head. Didn't use restaurant, and pizza, although hand made was expensive for what you got.
The Shop:
Well stocked but expensive, closest Super you is a 10min drive away.
The surrounding local area:
Not a site to visit if you like to walk into the local market town for a coffee and a lunch and wander around the local market. Surrounding villages very small with small, expensive, shops. Closest town (Blois) with market is a 15/20min drive away but well worth a look.
The Chateau is very impressive, but again we travelled by car (parking 4euros)as the actual Chateau is about a 10min drive, although the grounds are about 500meters away.
There is a vineyard about 5min bike ride away that's well worth a visit, with wine tasting and very reasonable, 6euros a bottle, local wine for sale. As well as cheeses made on the Farm
Further a Field:
ZooPark Beauval is about an hours drive away but is excellent with pandas, bears, koala and loads of other animals.
The main towns are Tours and Orleans, both about 45min away. We didn't visit these.
Chocolate Factory about 15min away, with a tour of how the chocolate is made, with English subtitles.

This is the first time I have a written a review but have used this website on many occasions to choose a campsite, including Le Chateaux Des Marais. Having just returned from a 13 night stay at the site I felt duty bound to give our opinion.
We are a family of 4 with 2 boys, 13 and 10 and have camped in France on many occasions. This campsite was the most expensive we have stayed on and unfortunately, we do not feel it justified the extra expense.
First the positives. The campsite is an excellent base for exploring the Loire. We took bikes and enjoyed cycling on the many cycle paths, particularly in and around Chambord. There is a SuperU 10mins away at Mer with a Petrol station (much cheaper than the local garage). The site has a very well stocked shop but this is understandably more expensive than the supermarket. The boys loved the pool complex and made plenty of friends on site. Our pitch was very big and relatively flat ; it included a fridge, table, chairs, parasol and sun loungers, water and eletricity. The site is very pretty and on the whole campers adhered to the nightly curfew. The staff are friendly and although they speak very good English were very accepting of my attempts at French. Free WIFI at the bar was very popular and the pizzas from the take away were good.
Onto the negatives, we found the overall cleanliness of the site to be below what we have experienced previously. There was litter on our pitch and the fridge was dirty. Our nearest sanitary block only had 3 toilets for ladies which led to queues morning and night. They were frequently without paper and although soap was provided, this was not always replenished. There were 10 showers, all mixed sex, but as they contained the wash basins there were often queues at busy times. These became very dirty; unlike previous sites we have stayed at there were no mops or squeegees to clean the shower after use. The showers were not on a timer, however, they were rarely hot and occasionally freezing! Although the site advertises football, a must for our boys, there was no dedicated area for the sport; the sports pitch had a tennis net no goals and was too busy for 2 big lads to chase a football round. The site had a Tourist Office which was OK, however, the weather forecast was only updated weekly and check the size of the published markets before you go. We went to Coer-Cheverny and Chambord and there were only 3 stalls at each. Not worth the effort. Additionally the English tour of the local vineyard is on Tuesday and Wednesday not Thursday as we were told.
That said, we did have a good holiday. We do not normally visit the same site twice and would not be breaking this habit to return to Le Chateau de Marais. If you are after a site close to the attractions of the Loire Valley that caters for a majority British clientèle then give it a try.

We made a mistake in selecting this site as a 1 night stopover en route to the south of France. It is a large commercial site, suited to families for a holiday. It has a pool, bar, restaurant and everything children could wish for on holiday. There were kids everywhere clearly enjoying themselves despite the poor weather during our stay.
Toilet facilities etc were very good, we did not use anything else which why I say it was not ideal for our purpose. The check in was very slick and the young lady spoke very good English, however I was shocked to find it cost 40 Euros for 2 of us and the dog. (8 Euros for the dog! - who used no facilities at all apart from laying on the grass)

We had a brilliant holiday at this site - we should have stayed longer!
We got lost round Paris on the way - that was the worst part. We came back via Rouen - much better - about 5 1/2 hours from Calais.
The site was welcoming. It has a great little shop - not too expensive. Very English - lots of Keycamp and Eurocamp pitches. But, once you were off the site, it was very French.
My children (9 and 7) loved the pools. They were there 3 times each day.
They also loved the pizza takeaway.
The Chateau down the road was lovely. The forest was great to explore. We didn't have bikes though, and next time I think we'll take them - or splash out and hire them from the site.
There is a supermarket in Blois - about 10 mins away. Good for stocking up on arrival.
For our family, this site was perfect. We will be going again!

We've just returned from 8 days at Chateau des Marais and had a lovely time. I went with my husband, 2 stepdaughters and our 9-month-old baby boy. There was plenty at the site to entertain us all. The bar was good (there's a happy hour when you can get 2 large Amstels for the price of 1!), and you can access the free wi-fi from there (wi-fi is available on the rest of the site for about €3 per day). There are several sockets outside where you can plug in your laptop etc when you run out of juice!
The swimming pools were excellent; our two girls spent almost all their time there, and only left to get food and when it shut! Another review mentioned the evenings are a quieter time to visit the pool and I'd agree with that - a lot of people leave to go and cook etc. Between 6 and 7, then don't return to the pool after that, leaving the flumes and slides free for lots of return trips! We also noted that tight swim shorts were not compulsory at all for men!
Our girls did participate in the kids clubs, which they enjoyed. The pizza party was a highlight, but did cost €5.
Our pitch wasn't a premium one, but had electricity (which we didn't use) and a tap. It was at the end of a row of Eurocamp chalets, but it backed on to another tent/caravan pitch, so we didn't feel overpowered by the chalets at all. The pitch itself was shady for most of the day so the tent didn't get too hot. The site was fairly quiet for most of the day, despite being quite full. The noisiest part was possibly when people came back from the bar in the evening, but that didn't last long after 10. 30pm.
The toilet block was clean and well looked after. The heat of the showers did fluctuate slightly, but this is possibly one of the only complaints I have about the site, and it's a very small one at that!
The reception staff are all very friendly, the tourist information is very helpful, and you can hire bikes etc. We hired the tennis court for an hour, and also played mini golf, both of which were enjoyable.
The on-site shop was rather expensive. They encourage you in the 'welcome' leaflet to shop there, but we found the local Super-U to be much more economical, but you do have to drive there. There is a bakery just down the road, within walking distance, but we did hear stories of children going in on their own being charged €5 for 3 croissants, and adults being charged a lot less! This was only what we heard through the friends the girls made on site, though.
I would definitely recommend this site, especially for families, as children are so well catered for. It's well-situated for visiting the local chateau and other sights, so couples may also find this campsite a good place to stay.
We had a great time there and would definitely go back!

This was the first of three sites we stayed in on our 2012 Tour de France!
We were allocated a pitch on the far side of the site with all the other 'Brits', the pitch was large and shaded. Easy hook up with both euro Blue or French 2 pin socket, and water within 10m.
There were lots of companies offering statics/mobile homes on site, from UK, Holland, Ireland, etc, the odd pitch was located among the statics.
Toilets and wash facilities excellent, hot water at all times and kept very clean.
Pool facilities great, kids spent hours there, but to many 'towels left for hours', I did not use the cold water slide but the kids did. No problem with swimming shorts as mentioned in previous reviews?
Good cycling routes to chateaux and river, however a car is needed to visit the area and supermarket. Shop had the basics, expensive but we stocked up at the supermarket before arrival.
Take away busy but good value compared to later sites.
Very quiet in the evenings.
Overall a fantastic site we would visit again

This is a fantastic site for families who are looking for a site with plenty to do.
We stayed here for 12 nights in August 2012 and loved it. The swimming pools were the major attraction, but there are many different activities for the children, and it felt safe enough to let them go off exploring on their own. There are a number of play areas, go-karts & bikes to hire & a small supermarket, a bar with a rather pricey, but decent snack bar, a small restaurant (which I can't comment on as we didn't eat there!) and a very good tourist information office on site. Nearby there is also plenty to do for days out.
Despite it being quite a busy site, it is quite spacious and never felt crowded, although the pool area does get very busy on sunny days. There are plenty of toilet blocks & we never had to queue for a shower (although there seem to be more showers than toilets and my husband did have to queue for the toilets on one occasion)The facilities were kept clean & well maintained.
Pitches are all flat & most seem spacious, although the size of pitch does seem to vary. There was also a section of the site with no pitch delimitations (more like a British campsite)
The only downside for me was the dominance of Canvas & Keycamp / Eurocamp tents & mobile homes. This meant that the clientele were predominantly English & there are kids clubs etc, but only for those staying with the aforementioned companies. My daughter was quite keen to join but was not able to. Also, many of the independent camping pitches are mixed in with mobile homes - our pitch was at the end of a row of mobile homes, with no other tents around so we felt that we missed out somewhat on the traditional campsite experience.
Nevertheless, it is a busy family-friendly site with excellent facilities which I would highly recommend.

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a tour around France. The site was easy to find and only a few miles from the A10. Our pitch was a prestige pitch which was very large and included a patio set, umbrella, loungers, fridge and barbecue. It would be ideal for tents. It was in shade all day, however this suited us as it kept the van cool in the evenings and at night. Site was booked direct on-line with no problems, however it was the only one of the 3 we stayed at where we had to pay in full upfront 4 weeks prior to arrival. Reception staff very friendly and helpful and good English spoken. Very helpful tourism office too. As mentioned in the other reviews there are lots of activities and amenities. The pool was excellent, very clean and the kids loved it. We tended to go in the evenings when it was quieter as it was open until 9. 30. Signs request proper swimwear, however most of the campers were British and the majority were wearing surf type shorts and no-one objected. There was a kids club (which we didn't use) and a good park, crazy golf, ponies weekly, visiting stalls - the crepe man was very well attended ! Bar was busy with a good atmosphere and was showing the Olympics on a large screen. We didn't try the take away but lots did. The restaurant was good, choice was limited but food was very good and ice cream sundaes were to die for ! The 10. 30pm quiet rule was well observed and other than quiet chatting outside units it was quiet in the evenings. The bar closed at 11pm so the last drinkers were long gone by 11. 30pm most nights. Toilets were very clean with loo roll and toilet seats. Male and female toilets and unisex showers. Showers were good and weren't push button, but we used them in the evenings. I overheard comments that they were cold in the mornings, but the evenings were fine. Shop was very good, a Casino mini market which sold most of the things you might need. The Chateau at Chambord is well worth a visit and can be reached by bicycle in 30 to 45 minutes. The horse and jousting show was super at 11. 30am and 4. 30pm daily. The cycle paths in this area are excellent, very safe for kids and flat. There is a whole network of paths connecting the towns or you can ride along the Loire. We cycled along the Loire to Bois one day, about 20K each way, it took less than 2 hours with ice cream stops, and Bois is a lovely town. With a car there is plenty to visit in the area. We are limited to places within biking distance, but still would be able to return and find enough places to visit that we hadn't seen this time around. All in all a super site that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. A little too full-on for us to stay on site all day, but brilliant to return to in the evenings. The kids declared it their favourite site so if they were happy then so were we.
