We really liked this site.
Set almost equi-distant from north, south and west coasts of Pembrokeshire this site is ideally placed to explore the county.
The site itself consists of several pitches dotted about in fairly mature conifer woodland threaded by gravel tracks. Some of these pitches are taken by resident vans. There are also a couple of small fields with unmarked pitches. One of the fields is open on three sides, another is surrounded by woods. We pitched on the field surrounded by woodland and it was extremely sheltered. There was no EHU on our field unless you had a very long lead.
Water is from standpipes. The loos and showers are in a portaloo cabin which has definitely seen better days, paint peeling off the walls etc. But please don't let that put you off, the loos are kept very clean and the showers are free.
There were firepits to be grabbed and the owner sells a sack of wood for a fiver if you can't be bothered to seek your own. The owner was very friendly and chatty but not 'in your face'. There are a couple of fish-stocked lakes in the grounds for serious fishermen and children using dip nets. It's a fairly noisy site, but in the nicest possible way, it's just full of birdsong, plus distant sheep and cows. There were only about six other units on site during a sunny half-term week.
There is a big Morrison's supermarket (with petrol station) on the edge of Haverfordwest as you drive from the campsite (5 minutes). Plenty of other shopping as well in the town.
You are, of course, in the centre of the Pembroke coast national park a terrific area for walking. Check out their website for downloadable walks leaflets, anything from a gentle stroll to a strenuous full day hike. The beaches are amazing swimming, surfing, sand, shingle, rock pools, take your pick. You can get good views of nesting seabirds on some of the sea stacks dotted along the coast. The cathedral at St Davids is delightful and has a very pleasant cafe. The Botanical Garden of Wales (40 mins) is well worth a visit.
If we go back to this part of Wales, and there's plenty to go back for, we will definitely be using Ginger Hill.

What a great site. We tried out our touring caravan out here for the first time. 2 kids age 6 and 3 and 3 adults and 2 dogs, we live quite local, the owners are very friendly. They went away themselves that weekend but their father was running it for them, who was a very nice man, helped us out when needed a jump on the van. If you needed anything he was there but otherwise you are left in peace,
Nice site, nice pitches, weather was on our side, did have a downpour of rain and thunder for one night but still good. Grass was cut and gravel paths,
No problems getting the caravan about, had a good size pitch, gravel pitches with grass next to it. Some open and some covered 3 sides with trees if you like lots of privacy, grass areas for campers, and lots of it. Can even camp overlooking the lovely ponds.
Not too busy either, and not overlooked and as its out of town its nice and quiet. No lighting about so bring torches etc. Can have a fire if you like there is fire bowls / containers provided if needed, we brought a fire bowl.
Female shower / toilet block / portable cabin basic but you don't need more than that, had two toilets and a shower all free, and nice and hot, and clean, hair dryer 50p,
Bins area next to toilet block and toilet waste area. Sink to wash plates, water fill up tap near to pitch.
My partner and brother had lots of fun on the ponds, no catches as new to carp fishing but still enjoyed it. 3 large ponds, and a nice friendly duck which my the kids liked, and a paddock with horses. I thought they would get bored but with the space and ponds ducks and horses they slept well and really enjoyed it, didn't want to come home.
There is a tree swing near by but didn't have the time to use it,
Haverfordwest town near by but far enough away. Shops restaurants Macdonalds, Iceland etc, post office about half a mile away in Cundale also a kids park,
Scolton manor just up the road, where there is a park, old house you can look around and tea rooms, also Oakwood theme park, folly farm, within driving distance, and all the lovely beaches we have like Tenby, Newgale, Broadhaven, Saundersfoot etc
The list goes on all within 20/30mins drive. Owners gave plenty of information when speaking with them
Prices were good as well, and will definitely be coming back here again,

This site is ideally situated for visiting Pembrokeshire and all it's attractions. Plenty of shops in Haverfordwest just a short drive away. All attractions, beaches etc are easily reached by car. Some of the site's pitches are surrounded by very tall conifers, but we chose a more open spot. We were the only visitors there and had plenty of choice, very quiet and secluded with only bird song to wake up to. Our two dogs, (often joined by the farm collies), enjoyed walks straight from the caravan, which was a bonus.
A big downside was the toilet block - there was no sign that it had been cleaned recently. Lots of cobwebs everywhere, muddy floor, uncleaned loos, no loo roll, soap or mirror, and a disgusting shower curtain - nothing changed during our 4 day stay. Perhaps no-one bothered to clean as they thought we wouldn't use the facility as we were in a 'van? Rubbish disposal could be better- no bins, just carrier bags all over the floor, lots of which were broken open. Finally, website says £13pn and we were charged £18 with 2 dogs which we thought was steep.

We have just returned from a lovely 5 nights at Ginger Hill (2 adults, 2 children 14 & 11). Owner very friendly and helpful, leaving us wood for our campfire while we were out one day and lending us an electric extension so that we could have our secluded pitch. Lovely looking site and very quiet, with beautiful woodland areas and views around the fishing lakes. We had a clearing amongst the trees all to ourselves and it was lovely. Loads of space for kids to play and ride their bikes.
The toilet/shower block is basic but clean and adequate - we never had to queue because the site was not busy. We always had very hot showers, choosing our times carefully to ensure it had time to heat up!
Quiet location but within easy reach of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast and different attractions. (We loved Oakwood theme park and the Frisbee Golf nearby.) A lovely, real camping site and we would certainly like to revisit!

If you are looking for some nice quiet time with the family this is a great place to stay. Loads of space for the children to run around. The owners are very friendly and happy to help if you want them. If you do not want them they leave you alone to get on with your holiday.
You are even able to have a camp fire. You have a shower and toilets hidden away. Hot and cold water available. We had a really nice time and have planned to go back in August. If you need anything their are shops about 10 mins away by car.

Very quiet peaceful site. Owner very friendly and provides wood and a camp fire if required. The toilet and shower are pretty basic and in a porta cabin. The waste disposal is good and plenty of bins for rubbish and recycling. Decent shopping in Haverfordwest with the usual supermarkets. Picton Castle gardens and The Botanic Garden of Wales are delightful. St Davids is the smallest city in the United Kingdom, and the cathedral is just magical.

If 'manicured' campsites with every facility on tap are your thing, this is perhaps not your kind of place. If peace and quiet and the chance to remember the joy of life's simpler pleasures is what you want from camping, maybe it is. Having spent two weeks there I came to really like the site, lovely views in every direction, the planting around the fishing lakes is lovely and I enjoyed the privacy of our little pitch, surrounded on 3 sides by evergreen trees (the downside to which was high insect / mosquito numbers - take a repellant and we used a fluorescent light to zap them very effectively). There are several of these pitches with surrounding trees and hardstanding to one side, all with hook up. There is a further more open area, still with hardstandings, hook ups and water tap which would be great for a group as well as individual campers and finally a plain camping field for those not wanting a hook up, which has lovely views of one of the fishing lakes and gets the benefit of the afternoon / evening sun. Get your gearing right on the approach if it has been raining though, as it can get a bit tricky for a heavily loaded car getting onto this field when wet.
As has been mentioned the toilets/showers are in a porta cabin. I thought they were fine. The shower was very good indeed, and I think the owners have added more hooks since a previous review. I get round the clothes dropping on the floor issue by walking to and from the shower in my bathrobe, that way I also take way less time leaving the shower free for others and not having to do that horrid hopping from one foot to the other getting dressed dance!
The chem loo emptying point was simple but well done and I thought the whole waste/bin space was well managed, it did get a little full just before collection day and maybe more actual bins would be a good idea (rubbish got piled in plastic bags) but is out of sight and I noticed no smell.
There are no play facilities provided and I wonder if maybe some small concession to this might be a good addition to the site. However, my 8 year old found plenty to amuse herself walking around, even when there were no other children her age there - she loved connie (the collie) and spent hours with her. It's a good site for children to ride bikes round on with loads of space for all kinds of games if there are other children around.
As has been mentioned the surrounding area is full of places to visit and things to do, some of them great value - scolton manor and the country park at the reservoir were both great places for children and dogs. The country park would be a great place to take a BBQ and it only costs £1 to park all day!If you have specific questions do approach the owners, they are very helpful and friendly indeed and happy to offer suggestions. Haverfordwest has a big range of shops and some good restaurants and take aways. The Tesco is 24 hour and the McDonalds is open at 05.30! Despite these all being on the doorstep, whilst on the site town life feels light years away!
The campfires are the icing on the cake, the smell, the warmth, everything about them somehow massively enhances the natural camping feel of this site which still provides the fundamental mod cons. I loved it, I hope to be back.

We have just spent a week at this site and it rates as our best camping holiday ever! Even though the site was practically empty and we had the run of the place I can't imagine that you would ever feel crowded out here. The pitches that have hook up facilities are spread out and the tent field is huge! The toilet and shower block is well maintained and cleaned every day. Richard and his family are perfect hosts, around when you want them but not hovering over you with a list of rules and regulations. If you want time away from real life this is the perfect place to be and we will most certainly be going back.

Month Stayed: August
Weather: Wet
Unit Type: Tent
Ginger Hill is a no frills, very relaxed camp site. It is located in the beautiful Gower peninsular in South Wales; just north of Haverfordwest. We stayed the week leading up to the August bank holiday and the weather obliged us by being very wet; at one point we were the only campers on the site! Eventually we started to think the camp site had its very own micro climate that encouraged the rain to fall on it and nowhere else : )
The ground of the camp site was that water logged that the track ways for the cars regularly had streams running down them. This was definitely a wellies site. When we arrived, the owners were away for the day and we were advised by a fellow camper to pick our own pitch. We ended up choosing one in the wooded section of the site.
As stated above this is a no frills site, the toilets and showers are in a porta cabin but this does not mean they are dirty. In fact they are very well cleaned out every morning and the showers always had plenty of hot water, however, there was no mirror in the gents or ladies sides of the porta cabin. The washing up area was outside on the side of the porter cabin and had no cover so washing the evening dishes could get very wet.
The site itself seems to be split up in to three areas, a wooden area with each pitch surrounded on 3 sides by fir trees, these all have electric hook up and each pitch has a hard and soft pitch for either caravan or tent. A central communal area of about 9 pitches for again caravans and tents that all have electric hook up and finally a field for tents that do not have electric hook up. All pitches are allowed a camp fire but you have to have it raised off the ground and use a fire tin (looked like the top or bottom of a beer barrel!). You can buy wood from the site for about £5.00 but you get enough to last you about a week and its well seasoned; I managed to get a decent camp fire going on our last night even in the rain.
The site is very quiet and gets very dark at night so a torch is definitely needed if returning late or for those midnight calls of nature. The site is well located for exploring the local area with plenty of castles, gardens and other places to visit. St David’s is a good 30 minutes drive away but well worth it as the views along the road are breathtaking and the Cathedral at St David’s is also well worth a visit. There are a couple of ponds on the site that you can fish in, although when we looked one of the pounds seemed to have become polluted with oil and had at least one dead fish floating in it.
As the ground was water logged from the wet summer there was mud everywhere so be prepared to spend a long time clean your tent afterwards; if the weather was dry I can imagine that this camp site could be idyllic.

What a relaxing place. We have just returned from a sunny week at this very nice site which is set away from the road so it is peaceful although very dark at night so a torch is recommended. The toilet and shower block is always clean and always has hot free showers although they are basic I found them perfectly acceptable. We stayed in an area of approx 6 hook ups but you can choose to take a pitch in the wood which would give you total privacy. There is also a great field over looking the lakes for anyone not wanting to use electric. Every night we had a camp fire, the wood can be purchased from the main house or any garage on the road to Newgale beach which is a lovely place to visit, it is a blue flag beach and a shop is available for drinks and snacks on the car park. Here's a tip don't go to the first car park which is pay & display carry on along a small road following the beach the last car park you come to where the shop is, is free parking. Anyway back to the site go here for a peaceful relaxing holiday, friendly owners are always at hand and very helpful the site is tidy and well kept. Great for dogs. We found a chip shop within 10 minutes of the site which came in handy on a rainy night when we couldn't BBQ its in Haverfordwest. The Spar sells everything that you may run out off and is an off licence, again 10 minutes away. Should you visit this site and want a beach day go to Barrafundle Bay £4 for the day a beautiful walk on a cliff path to a secluded fantastic beach then a walk to the lilly ponds an unforgettable day out. The beach has no shop so if your there for the day take your cool box! as its quiet a walk back to the car and cafe.
