We visited this site as possibly the first guests. The hosts were friendly, helpful and made our stay in the rain an absolute pleasure. We had a large fire to keep us warm and the hosts helped us consume our fruity vodka punch. The 10 or so children loved every minute exploring the woods and lakes.
The location is great for visiting Oakwood, Tenby, St Davids and all the lovely beaches of Pembrokshire. Its a car journey to the shops and eateries. As at most sites I've visited the showers could be better, but hey that's camping! Will return.

Arrived on Thursday 9th April to be greeted by our host. Right from the start he was really cheerful, seemed pleased to see us and gave us loads of info on his site and sorted us out (4 tents) a nice cluster of pitches close together. We paid a very reasonable £13 per pitch per night with hookup (£10 without leccy). According to the sign out the front its a Caravan & Camping club site but was told not to worry about that! Ginger hill feels very rural and out of the way, with little light pollution in the evening despite its fairly close proximity to Haverfordwest.

As mentioned on the listing this site allows fires, nice to be able to escape elf 'n' safety for a change and enjoy a real camping experience. Wood is available for £5 a bag. We did run out when we had our first fire, I think due to it being -1°C at night. A bit later in the year, one bag would be sufficient.

The toilet blocks consist of a port-a-cabin with segregated sexes, one shower in each. It certainly isn't the Hilton but its functional and the owner cleans them every day. I didn't notice any bad smells around as one reviewer mentioned so this must have been a temporary problem. I do agree though, that the washing up sink could do with some sort of shelter.

Look out for Connie (little) and Cody (large) the two awesome free range Welsh Border Collies which live on the site. Connie loves playing fetch, so if you are tempted to throw him a stick, do it when you have plenty of time to kill! On the Saturday morning had an early morning visit from Connie who had squeezed underneath my tent door and stood there with the stick, expecting a game at 7:30! Really friendly dogs, but watch your food, Cody nearly made off with a entire chocolate cake!

In Haverfordwest you have a choice of Morrisons, Tesco, Lidl or Aldi if its a supermarket you want. Look out for the farmers market at Riverside in town (google it). I went there on Good Friday and purchased some fantastic meat from various stalls. There was a stall by Bethesda Farm Shop there where I bought some really tasty sausages. The very friendly lady told me she does all day breakfasts there which we didn't get the chance to try but will do next time. There are also lots of takeaways in Haverfordwest to choose from if you're feeling lazy.

Some awesome local beaches include:

Newgale, Broad Haven, Tenby, Barafundle Bay (near Stackpole), Manorbier the list goes on.

My only criticism of Ginger Hill, is that I think a new shower block which is a bit warmer and with a an extra shower for each sex would be a great improvement as I could see the current facilities struggling in the summer.

To those who moan about it getting muddy when it rains, that's what happens when water falls on grass. We were very lucky with the weather on the whole but had heavy rain on our first day, so yes it got a bit muddy, but you just live with it.

I just want to say what fantastic hosts Mr & Mrs Mathias are. They are amiable, kind and approachable people. Nothing is ever two much trouble and always seem to have time for a friendly conversation. So thank you so much guys for our stay and next time I'm down in Pembrokeshire I know exactly where I will be camping.

This is a hard core camp site, ground is just basic field, which when it rains (we all know how much we've had), it becomes a mud bath, water logged everywhere trouble is you can't escape it! Grass is kept long so you have to walk through long wet grass all the time.

There is one toilet block with two toilets, one shower, no mirror, very basic. To wash dishes you have one sink, it is not covered so if it rains you get wet washing up! There is a terrible smell around that area too smell like the septic tank has leaked! I should imagine in nice weather it is bareable, the rates are fair but to be honest don't see how he could charge much more as there's a lot to be improved on to make the stay more comfortable, just simple things like cutting the grass laying some bark to walk on etc, sorry don't think I will return.

The weather was not on our side and although we tried hard not to let it, it did put a dampner on the week we spent here. The mud made it pretty hard to drive through the campsite, and it made it feel like we were sleeping on a water bed.

The site was pretty with the lakes and woods and there weren't that many people there so it was nice and quiet. We had a lovely secluded area up at the back where the bee hives were. Unfortunately one of the hives had a wasp nest and they were quite annoying until I bought Raid wasp spray.

The owners were really helpful and spoke about improvements they had planned (new toilet block). They put our ice packs in their freezer for no extra charge.

I found the shower block and toilets quite an unpleasant experience. The portable cabin was near the toilet disposal which had the most horrid smell 24 hrs. There were two toilets and one shower. The shower was hot but just not very nice with the smell. There were two tiny sinks and a mirror (I think).

It rained pretty much the whole of the week we were there which didn't help the mud situation.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area as long as you don't mind driving a short while. I grew up in South Wales and know Tenby really well. This holiday we discovered other delights such as Barafundle Bay, Stockpole, Broadhaven and my favourite, Newport.

I would give this campsite another go, when they update their toilet block and when there hasn't been any rain for a few weeks.

Lovely peaceful site with lots of trees to make it feel secluded. Very good rates and very hospitable hosts who are friendly and helpful.

Having a bonfire was brilliant - a real bonus.

The only downside was the toilet block. Although the showers are nice and hot with a good pressure, the space is tiny and water puddles on the floor. Frequently my clothes fell on the wet floor! Some better sized hooks on the back of the door and a shower rack/tray to stand on would improve this situation.

However the toilet facilities were adequate and the site was one we would definitely recommend to those who like to experience camping as it should be!

We will be back!

Just got back from Ginger Hill and had a lovely time, pitches are spacious and private with hard standing for the car, this was needed thanks to the torrential rain, site owners were warm and welcoming.Site allows camp fires and metal fire pans are available to borrow or bricks to build your own plenty of fire wood available and great fun for kids to go out collecting the wood. The local town centre of Haverfordwest has everything you will need in fact we were quite jealous of the large supermarkets plus the fortnightly farmers market.Easy drive to a wide range of activities we spent most days in Tenby(great beach)but when weather was not so good folly farm is a great day out but be warned food is expensive so take a pack up.My only criticism is the toilet block is just not big enaough for the sight and depite being cleaned regularly block definitely smelt think this may have been a septic tank problem due to rain volume.Would also benefit from a table next to washing up sink as it is not the best practice to have to put your clean pots on the toilet step.Overall though a fantastic site that we wil return to.

Ginger Hill was how you would expect camp-sites to be, your own space, quiet surroundings, and a friendly host. This site offers hook up but as a motorhome you would need to reserve your spot if you plan to return to the same place. There are excellent hard standings tucked away in the pine trees, which have the effect of seclusion, and ample areas around the fields to park up. This is not a side by side open field which is a breath of fresh air for someone like me who likes their privacy. Richard was a friendly helpful owner who went out of his way to accommodate the campers needs. The showers and loo were basic but clean but take some flip flops as the floor can get wet. The campsite is centrally located and in easy reach of the main beaches and shops. This is an ideal site for families and couples and is made even nicer by the price. In comparison to others sites around the area this is far the best for both location and price and I would highly recommend this site to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay without being ripped off, long may it continue, as I would love to stay here again.

As a bit of a beginner to camping, my only real experience was of a field with tents all fighting for space. What an excellent surprise Ginger Hill was! Loads of space with pitches individually surrounded by pine trees giving a real feeling of seclusion.

Toilet, shower and washing up facilities basic but clean.

Two well stocked trout and carp lakes provided an extra dimension but with so many activities within easy driving distance from the campsite it was hard to make time to enjoy it to the full. Town centre includes morrisons, aldi, lidl and loads of takeaway/restaurants.

Really warm and genuine owner who together with his wife made sure that we were happy.

Will definitely be back!

We stayed at this site for 7 nights and it was the most peaceful & relaxing site we have ever been to. The owners are really nice and welcoming and gladly help you out with places to visit.

The site itself has lots of nooks & crannys making some pitches really private (surrounded by pine trees)and some pitches over looking the lakes a truly great setting.

There are 3 lakes, 1 with trout and the other 2 with small carp. I visited the trout lake most evenings for a couple of hours and never blanked once, I caught at least 1 fish every night (i returned all the fish I caught) and cannot wait to return to have a go for the carp when they are a bit bigger!

The toilet block is basic, with 1 mans and 1 ladies shower but both clean, the same as the outside sink and bin areas.

Haverfordwest is approx 10 mins drive away and you will find Morrisons, Aldi and a Lidl handy for anything you forget or might need.

The area is pretty central with some great beaches just 8 miles away and Tenby about 20 miles one way and St Davids 20 miles the other way.

All in all this was one of the best camping holidays we have had the peace & quiet was fantastic and we will definetely return to this site.

Ginger Hill is the perfect peaceful camping break if you want to get away from city life and get back to nature. You can choose where to pitch your tent so we went for a beautiful secluded spot next to one of the ponds. We had a campfire everynight and sat under the stars toasting marshmellows.

The owners made us feel exceptionally welcome and brought us fire wood at a small cost. The toilets and shower are very clean and the site is extremely well kept. Haverfordwest is the perfect location as you are central to a large choice of beaches. We will definitely be returning to Ginger Hill!
