We camped at this friendly small campsite in July. Pitches had been flattened which was great. Toilets and showers were spotless. Free use of fridges was very useful. It's a child and dog free site so very peaceful for my wife and myself. The site has a great pub just up the road that serves great food. It's only 10 mins drive to Lyme Regis and all its attractions - loved the beaches. The weather smiled on us and there was no extra charge for our large 4 man tent which was a pleasant surprise.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a 2 night break and it was great! The view was beautiful over the hillside and although the weather was slightly drizzly we didn't mind at all! The facilities were really good with everything you could need including a very clean and functional shower rooms. We didn't have a car, however the bus services were good and Hunters Lodge Inn is just a 3 minute walk up the road (the food was amazing and brilliant quality for the price!) Overall I would definitely recommend Hedgehog corner and thoroughly enjoyed the stay!

Stayed here for a River Cottage event, very convenient for HQ and Lyme Regis. Lovely well spaced site, modern clean toilet/shower block and fridge/freezer available also. Very large area for only 10 pitches so no pressure on space or the facilities. Very friendly owners, so all in all highly recommended and will for sure be back!

Lovely campsite with lovely hot showers. Only a minute or two by car from River Cottage HQ making it pretty ideal. Lots of space between pitches allowing you to interact or not with your fellow campers as you chose.

As a single lady on my own I felt very comfortable on such a spacious, well kept, peaceful and friendly camp site (no children!). Plenty of room for each tent with lovely view over the woods opposite. I was particularly impressed with the well kept and clean shower block that had heaters, powerful showers and even paper shower mats provided!

I camped here late September, was greeted warmly by the site owner, I erected my small tent, I had the entire campsite to myself, the grass was about 20cm long and very wet, with no footpaths to the excellent very clean toilet block and very small campers kitchen, no exterior lighting on the actual campsite at all which makes it very difficult if you need to visit the loo during the night, considering they charge £25 per person per night the most I've have ever paid to camp anywhere in Europe, the big plus it's very close to River Cottage H. Q and a very friendly pub with nice food.
The highlight of my stay was on the way back from the pub on a very wet and dark night, a young girl stopped here car to offer me a lift as she considered the road to the campsite extremely dangerous, in fact Joy the site owner highlighted this danger to me on my arrival.
I would never stay at this site again as it just to expensive for the facilities on offer.

Management response: Thank you for your feedback. I regret you have missed the point of this small 10 tent/20 adult maximum campsite.
We restrict the numbers to this limited amount for the whole season - indeed as you said you "had the whole campsite to yourself" which many campers would be thrilled about. As stated on the web site there is no lighting on the field itself so campers can enjoy traditional camping with no sky pollution ideal for star gazing. There is good sensor lighting around the public areas i.e. the car park, shower block and campers kitchen. I'm delighted you found the shower block clean. Our tariff is competitive for the area and is for 2 adults per tent including a wooden picnic bench, use of showers and fridge freezers. It also reflects our closeness to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, TVs River Cottage and the limited number of campers permitted here. Campers can always look around and compare tariffs and facilities provided before booking. I'm sorry you were scared walking to the pub alone - we do recommend people walk with a torch or drive to the pub car park. I have been walking to the pub for some 20 years now so am probably more used to it! This reviewer might find it more suitable to camp at a more commercial camp site/holiday park with lit pathways and onsite club house with bar and entertainments next time. We are rural, traditional, child free with clean facilities and will always stay that way - to reassure our regular campers. Regards, Joy. |

This lovely campsite has all the facilities you could wish for. Lots of room and friendly owners. Only downside to the peace and quiet was the traffic noise from the A35, which although not loud was consistent throughout the night. Apart from that an excellent site.

Management response: Thank you for this review of our small adult and couples only 10 pitch tent camp site minutes from Lyme Regis on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The exact and convenient location can be seen on both the map here and on my web site.
Over the bank holiday most of our guests (all I would suggest as we were fully booked many months in advance) were attending the famous and nearby River Cottage Food Festival which attracts thousands. I'm pleased to report that the main road is nearly a third of a mile away according to Google maps with many hedges in between.
As readers can see from earlier reviews many campers appreciate our tent only, spacious well maintained field with wooden picnic benches, our modern shower block and NO children running around this small friendly adult and couples only camp site.
Some may choose to avoid bank holidays in this very popular holiday area at the epicentre of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast and particularly on River Cottage Festival weekends.
Many thanks, Joy the Proprietor. |

Looking for a quiet campsite not too far from the coast, we stumbled upon this one, which was indeed very quiet, thanks to the couples-only no-kids policy. We loved it, we were lucky that the weather was nice, one evening we even had the chance of encountering two deer who came very close to the tent. Facilities are excellent, the more so with only a few people on the site.
As one other reviewer also experienced, owner Joy warned us in advance about cycling in the area, taking the risk of us not coming. We appreciated that, but came and cycled anyway. And didn't regret it. If you avoid the larger roads there are some nice rides you can do. The only drawback are the insanely steep hills, up to 25 percent, which you encounter from time to time. We are not exactly whimps (have done the Alps and Pyrenees), but climbing them is a disaster, going down is difficult as well. Especially when the road is narrow and cars try to overtake. So we cycled a little bit less and enjoyed the seaside instead!

We made the long journey from Cumbria, to stay 2 weeks at Hedgehog Corner, mixing some business at River Cottage with a holiday.
Could not fault the site, wash up room and toilet block always clean and fresh, the addition of fridge freezers in the wash up area, as well as some great info and tips on the local area, an added bonus.
Joy (site owner) extremely helpful and friendly and we look forward to visiting again.
Highly recommended.

The “Joy” of camping.
Brilliant campsite for couples looking for a quiet break. Especially if you remember to bring all the parts of your tent! Stupidly, we didn’t, but the proprietor, Joy, saved the day by lending us one of her spare tents (would have been 5 hour round trip to get the missing parts).
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The shower block was always clean and had plenty of hot water. In the kitchen area there was lots of useful local information supplied e. G. Places to eat, walks, bus routes etc. , There was also 3 fridge freezers for campers to use and power points that could be used for changing mobile phones etc, (though leaving them unattended is obviously at your own risk).
The food at Hunters Lodge Inn was excellent. However, as advised on the camp website, the short walk is a little tricky (busy road, no pavements); wearing or carrying something light coloured or hi-viz at night is recommended.
We walked into Lyme Regis from the campsite using a route we found on the notice board in the kitchen. The views on the way down to Uplyme and the last section by the river to Lyme Regis were lovely. For the up hill return journey we caught the X31 bus from Lyme Regis and the driver kindly dropped us outside the campsite entrance.
Barrington Court (National Trust) is a good day out, very pretty gardens, interesting house, lovely tea room and restaurant.
All in all our 3 night break was lovely and we definitely plan to return (with all of our tent next time!).
